I got a new turbo put on, and used a 1.06 rear housing instead of a .82 rear and the car sounds allot deeper then before, the engine sounds the same and runs really good but the exaust note is tuffer and deeper...

oh its a GT3540 with 1.06 it used to be .82 ar and front is the same.

I was wondering if this is normal or should i look for a exaust leak or something ;)

I very much doubt its an exhaust leak mate, but obviously check the gaskets and what not.

Exhaust leak will generally sound alot louder, and not "tuff", "deep" or "throaty" but more rattly.

On a side note, how is the car to drive with such a large housing?

The 1.06 on the 30det isn't too bad surprisingly.. It makes 1bar+ a little before 4000rpm.

The only real difference to the smaller .82 is the .82 begins making boost much earlier in the rpm; the larger 1.06 seems to make no boost no boost then within 400-500rpm it brings it all on but linear and smooth.

The 1.06 you loose that windmill feel at low rev's part throttle but by all means they still feel quite good on the 3ltr.

Not sure about you question but i have one for you!

What do you reckon of the bigger rear?

Yeah its good i wreckon, i can feel the car feels much more free off boost, and it seems to make 5psi by 3300rpm and full boost 1bar by about 3800. I have not upped the boost past 1 bar yet because i spent all my money on this turbo so there not even enough money to pay for extra fuel for road tuning either.

Its good, I am thinking it has the same power at 9psi then it used to have at 15. So 20psi will be interesting, before i made 363rwkw on 25psi now it will be making that on 18psi i wreckon. Should be interesting

i would say that yes the larger housing would change the exhaust note, after all it is flowing a lot more freely, and is a larger chamber compared to before.

got lag at all tho?

Yes it raised the rpm for boost by about 300 - 400rpm

To the people inquiring about lag, he is running an RB30DET. From the dyno sheets i have seen they are normaly well on their way to making boost by 4000 rpm with the 1.06 rears.

mmmm yes. RB30DET.

Here are some pics from my mission last weekend, i took my time with it and used my old housings and gtr_etr sent me his 1.06 to swap with my .82 from QLD, thanks mate!... oh it took me about 4 hours all up to change it over by myself.

Have a look at the pics, i couldnt believe the difference between the two.

Putting compressor cover on

Edited by Guilt-Toy

I know no one probly cares.. but i had some interesting fun with this new turbino on my car tonight

I gave it a quick street tune, just 3 hits in second gear only to fix the arf's up, got it down to 11.3 afr and far out.

I would have to say it has close to the same power before on only 18psi of boost.

This car is now going to be an animal, i was shocked after the third run and did not hit boost again, bit hairy going sideways and stuff.

cant wait to spend a few hours on the dyno with it. and on the map tracer you can see that the boost does come on 400rpm later, it goes to full load 19 at rev point 12 when before it used to be 11.

not bad! im going to like this new setup :)

the larger housing is now on and yes it does alter the exhausrt note. Power comes on later tho that is to be expected on a 25.

The engine is on a mild tune at the moment making 335 killer wasps at 20 lb.

No timing or cam dial in yet. thats next weeks project I am hoping it may bring boost on a tad earlier as I dont think the power delivery would be much chop for track work. Any hoos, we'll see what happens with a few more pound of boost and some cam and timing work.

nah not yet, but i would like to once its tuned up

Sounds awesome. To you take the car to the strip much?
nice work guilt-toy

Sorry I missed your calls yesterday too - Left my phone in the car.

I still think you should put the WMI kit on and aim for 400rwkw :P

thats cool man, i will ring you in a sec

mine is a rb30det, so its not tooo bad.

these turbos are great for rb's !! my car sounds sooo much tuffer, especially in the mid range and just before it hits limiter, and when it hits limiter man it sounds like a animal! on low boost. i dunno if i will go much further then 22psi this time around

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
