Hi guys,

I recently got my Power FC tuned and while I drive heaps of black spots build up on the rear bumper.

I am not sure whether is un-burnt fuel or oil, but I know it's a pain in the ass to get off because I have to use the buffer to get it off (it doesn't just wipe off with a cloth)

My mods are as follows:

GReddy Front mount I/C

SplitFire Coil Packs

Power FC

Straight through 3.5 inch exhaust

Pod filter with custom Cold air intake

Bosch 040 Fuel pump

Standard Turbo

Running 12 PSI

I've also attached a photo of my dyno print out, the AFR's seem correct at 12, right?

Could my tuner just be sh!t and stuffed something up and now the car spits out black stuff?

I checked my oil level, it seems fine, so I doubt it would be oil on the rear bumper?

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks

Hi guys,

got my car tuned recently, just wondering if this is about what people get with the same AFRs and same mods.

Also, are MY AFR's fine at 12? is that too rich?

my mods are as follows:

GReddy Front mount I/C

SplitFire Coil Packs

Power FC

standard dump to 3.5 inch front pipe exhaust

Pod filter with custom Cold air intake

Bosch 040 Fuel pump

Standard Turbo

Running 12 PSI

Is my figure of 194rwkw about right?

Is the power curve any good?

Cheers

Yeah mate that seems pretty decent considering your running a standard dump pipe.

cruising a/f is nothing like full throttle, unless you are flat foot 100% of the time, that dyno sheet tells you nothing about fuelling.

your car is likely running a bit rich, but othere than the mess its not necessarily a big deal. get someone to drive behinf you and check how much smoke comes out.

Yep that sounds about right

Must go heaps better now with the tune

Ohh yeah, heaps more mid range power, as you can see in the graph.

Only one problem now, I get heaps of exhaust residue on my rear bumper, not sure why?? :/

Maybe a crappy tunner?

I've gotten someone to drive behind me, I hit and and gae it it's max, and the person said not even a little bit of smoke came out, maybe it happens when cruising?

The a/f at 12 is OK with the new tune, reasonably straight line right through the curve. The power curve itself doesn't look quite right, its jittery. With a pfc the tuner should have been able to make it much more progressive and smooth.

For examples, have a look at the R33 RB25 thread at the top of this section and pick a couple that are in your power range with a pfc.

Back on topic :)

Spots on bar?

What rear muffler have you got? Short tip?

Do you warm the car up for a good time, with a roller garage door behind you etc?

The muffler is an Invada exhaust, and I do have a highflow cat. Not too sure what you meant by long/short tip so I took some photos.

I find that the black spots on my rear bar come about when driving.

I always let my car warm up for a minimum of 3 minutes before driving it anywehere.

It could also be from the atmo. BOV come to think of it, because when it releases the pressure, the car would run rich, making it spit out black stuff....

I might try putting the stock plumb back on.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Actually, come to think of it, I had my Atmo. BOV on my car before the tune and it didn't have that black stuff on the rear bumper! So it's probably not the BOV..... Hrmmmm :D

PS. yes there were to runs done on the dyno, one was b4 I got the power FC installed (AFR 10.5:1), and the other was after the tune (AFR 12:1).

Should I take it back to my tuner and tell him the the curve isn't smooth as it should be?

Maybe the AFM was maxing out and couldn't get good flow measurements?

the bottom red line is the drive in reading and the top one is the tuned result.

If you did not pay more then $600 for a full tune then they did not tune it in cruise.

Get a cruise tune, if your in nsw i can do it for $200

10.5:1 AFR's under load is horrible tuning.

Get it tuned again. Could also be the fuel reg possibly failing

I am in ACT.

I paid $440 for my tune including install of the Power FC.

Where abouts in NSW are you?

I didn't know the Power FC can tune in Cruise mode and in 'underload ' mode??

I do noticed when I am only lightly accelorating that the car jerks faintly..... COuld this be the reason? Maybe cruise mode the AFR's are sh!t, hence spitting out unburnt fuel?

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
