Heh - NEVER underestimate the power of us geeks in the information age.

Exposure thanks to this guy:

http://harpooned.org/

And I'm in the UK and I heard about it (the game is an aussie political statement)... so... here's hoping enough international exposure will help japan see the difference between "we've always hunted whales" to "We take out ten times as many as ever, and numbers are down... but hey, they've always been there before"

Why would you want to stop a perfectly legitimate and sustainable harvest of food?

You'll be trying to tell me I can't have a tasty Barramundi fillet next.

Piss off and mind your own business. Clown. This is a car enthusiast forum - not a 'let's bash Japan' forum. Take your political message elsewhere.

That should get you all going....

im not against it. not for it, but not against it. Comfy on the fence on account of it has no impact on myself or anyone or anyhitng i know whatsoever and dont think it is worth all the hype and trouble people go to when they cant provide one thing - a genuine reason why NOT to do it. Kill it and eat it. That said, i HIGHLY disapprove of the WAY they go about it. There must be a better way, and they eed to stop pussying about and be honest, ie 'yeah we eat it'.

One thing tho - i know heaps of peple who have lived in japan and theyve all agreed on one thing - you cant just go into a restaurant and ask for a whale steak.

Harvesting whales for food may be what they do, but they CLAIM to be harvesting them for 'Research'.

and legitimate? no, research whaling is a loophole... spitting on the face of the International Whaling Commission.

And the word "Sustainable"... they take whales that are classified as 'Vulnerable' and 'Endanged'. No mistakes, they just take whales.

Now, if it _WAS_ sustainable, that would be different. I have no problems with killing for food.

Modern techniques have turned over fishing into a simple affair. And this is with their 900 minke and 50 fin whale limit for "Research" that they impose on themselves and enforce on themselves.

Commercial whaling? that would be... umm... not good.

Temper Temper... just let the thread fade, because as you said, this isn't a board for political activists. Though with reactions like yours... its tempting...

I think the IWC is being over conservative... fortunatley this isn't a political forum, so I won't go into it.

well, enough from me... just saying - think about it. even if Japans released records are correct, they are taking threatened whales... under the pretense of research.

actually whale burger is quite tasty. I say leave them alone. japanese fishermen have a right to shoot grenade tipped harpoons at whales and any activist that comes between them and the whale.

in all seriousness I have nfi why the australian media and doo gooder brigade has really taken up this cause. it's none of our f*cking business. it's not like they are doing it in our waters. as long as it's controlled (which is apparently is) and it's not wiping yet another species from the face of the earth then I say let them have at it. let's worry about our own country and all the illegal fishermen in a our own waters, plus they make for much funnier viewing on border security.

I think there is a place for this discussion on SAU. Just because it's a car forum doesn't mean it should intentionally avoid politically sensitive issues. That would make us all ignorant.

I'm not saying we need to go out and blow up some whaling ships. I'm saying if anyone has 2c to add, say what's on your mind.

I think if there wasn't such a large commercial gain for the Japanese whaling industry i'd be content with their 'research purposes' for whaling. But i doubt whether they are the world leader in marine biology research, more than a leading consumer of whale-derived products.

Japan has a right to hunt whales. I'd be p!ssed off if i couldn't eat steak or fish because Japan disagreed with our consumer practices in Australia. What i disagree with is killing endangered spieces, or using lies disguised as research to cover the true intentions of the whaling industry in Japan.

That's my 2c.

while i agree that this is a car forum, i dont agree with whaling, well at least the pont were they feel it necasary to kill 500 endagered species for medical research. why cant they only kill 5-10, why 500? anyway as i said it sucks it happens and we wish it wouldnt but its going to be a fight that will last to kingdom comes, anyway i went to japan and you know you literally cannot find a scrap of whale meat anywhere. even when we asked for it. *shrugs* meh who knows.

it can be bought, you just gotta know where to go!

I remember when everyone started jumping up and down about this issue. then the next week it appeared on an elementary schools lunch menu hehaha

errrr heh.. you do realize they are whaling in... OUR water.. and it is very much OUR business what happens in OUR water? Infact the previous government felt it was so much OUR water we had the tampa crisis and children overboard etc because of it. In AUSTRALIA Whales are a protected species and serious penalties would be issued for anyone found by the government to be killing them. Incidentally the Australia courts found that the whaling by the Japanese vessels in OUR waters was against the law. Hmmm none of our f*cking business you say, au contraire.

pps harpooning cows would be immediately banned, and yet as one very close relative of cows.. it is ok to harpoon and they chop up while still alive a large and very graceful whale? It's easy to say this and that.. but go and look up some movies of what whaling actually looks like :P.

pps. comparing overpopulated species such as eastern greys to threatened species such as some of the Whales japan has 'researched' is rather amusing. OH NOES.. SOMEONE KILLED A MOUSE THEREFORE HYPIOCIRITITCICAL POPOLES!

I like whales and I like eating whales. All this talk about whaling is only making me hungrier.

My concern is that they are whaling in Australian waters and yet we do not get to benefit from the tasty, tasty harvest without traveling all the way to Japan...

    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
