Shannons do insure under 25's mate and they give you a choice of paying it by the month!

Ah I didn't realise that. A fellow SAUer said that when he approached Shannons they labeled all under 25's "hoons and not car enthusiasts" and was refused insurance.

Might have to assess my insurance options.

Just got a quote from Shannons for the GTR. Agreed value $25k... they want $1785 a year. As opposed to Justcar who want $1585 (for $21k max >:)).... difference being Shannons are ok with mods, will payout on sound systems up to $3k, and most importantly, choice of repairer. I told them about my speeding tickets, and they didnt refuse me a policy offer. I'm 29 this month so age is probably a key. Going to shannons tomorrow for the inspection cause I'd like to put it past $25k due to the amount of shizzl i've spent on it. not counting consumables. ;P

Either way, they seemed rather nonplussed about my speeding fines and the fact I've got some minor mods and intend to do more..

I like the monthly payment option. Sure beats putting $1.7k on the plastic

Hey Ben, something doesn't sound right there buddy. I've got mine insured with Shannons for almost 3 times that amount and only paying approx $1300 a year?!

Are you on a Rating 1?

I wonder if its because I also have the bike insured with them?

you get discount if you have a 2nd policey with them . i have my skyline and my dailey with them saves 10%i think get even a better deal if you put your house insurence with them as well .

pity they dont do boats as well

Ben do you have a lock up car port because Shannon's didn't want to know me because i just have a drive way

so i went with Famous which was better than JC

Yeah lockup carport, alarm/immob, all that stuff. I'm rating one, but im 29 (as opposed to Mr Sled who is a good 12 months older than me ) Also have a couple of speeding tickets and no second policy, and the cars put down as a daily driver and not a weekender...

A few years ago, i called up Shannons and they told me to call back in a few years...i was 18 then. Not sure what it would be like now that im over 21...but i got the impression they only do over 25's as well.

Ive got "just cars" but im changing to lumleys because they insure for true value of the mods and car no limits to the cars value. unlike just cars who wont insure the r34 gtt for more then 30k. and hold your comments, lol i only pay 1100 a year...rating 1 with low deductables.

just remember every change you make to your car needs appoval or it wont be covered at all. and yes i too have talked to the guy who knows everything about jap imports at just cars, really good....... even lumleys has a guy like that... really knows the exact value of every part for jap cars.

i dont think lumleys insure anyone under 25 sorry mates

Just Cars only offered you 21k max for your GTR?

I'm 21, insured my 94 GTR and Just Cars offered to cover it at $22k - and that's just with twin pod filters and exhaust modifications.

After getting rear ended around a month ago I called up my insurer Just Cars thinking they'd claim on my behalf. How wrong was I?!

They said because I only have 3rd party with them it's up to me to solve my problems even though it wasn't my fault and even though I pay over $500 just for 3rd party!!

Stuff Just Cars I say but it's the only place that will insure me.

Oh and before I start the huge debate on "if you can't afford insurance, you can't afford the car", I can afford to pay $2500 a year but I refuse to give into these vampires :)

mate this is the same will all insurers, thats why you always read all the documentation that comes with the insurance so you know what you are getting.

Im not sure why your worrying about the cooler and wheels. if you got a 18000 payout im sure youll find a nice car with what you want.

Also. when I was younger I was refused insurance frmo shannons. now im 25 im thinking of changing to them.

Yeah thats right. and thats why I changed to shannons....

Currently insured at $25k but I'll be getting them to inspect it sometime to negotiate a $30k policy

its turned out cheaper than I was quoted, ended up being $1500 odd for a year and when I get my diff cams licences they'll knock a bit off too...

Justcar are very stingy

The point was that it was agreed to be worth more and just-car didn't come through. Also if you look at the dates on the posts you would notice this thread is old. Cam got a new car months ago..

Your policy will quite clearly state whether it is an agreed or market value policy.

Also, check the value at renewal time - they have a habit of changing values while the rest of the policy looks similar.

It should also state what accessories or modifications are covered by the policy, and under what circumstances they will cover them.

You may need the PDS (policy disclosure statement) for the terms of when the accesories will be covered however.

Insurance policies are boring as hell to read, but it is very important to understand them, with the price of cover being as high as it is.

Had a phone call today saying that the $18,550 is in the mail, in two seperate cheques coz they already sent one before they reviewed his letter showing that he claimed responsability so i guess that is a plus. But they will definitely not pay me for rims and intercooler, the only thing they offer, is things that are insured like that only get replaced or paid for if they are stolen or the car isnt written off and they get repaired. Im in the process of looking through all my records to see that their agreed value is right, im almost certain its worth more than the added "$500" she told me over the phone.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. You have to remember that even though you might insure items individually, the total amount you are paid out will not exceed the "agreed value". If you add modifications and want the agreed value to go up, you have to specifically renegociate this.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, $18500 for a Series 2 GTS-T is very good. Take a look on the For Sale forums, I'd doubt you could get that much selling it privately.

Well I hope everything gets sorted out! (:

Ive been with H2P since I was on my L's with a turbo car, atm being 17 with a turbo car I pay $950 full comp and you can pay yearly or monthly!

    • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way.
