Always a better idea to change the oil more frequently then less so. I always change my oil and filter every 5000km. Specially considering my engine has over 100,000km on it and i'm ever increasing the power output...

I have also heard of ppl changing at 3000km's but thats just being pedantic LOL!

Agreed.

Every 5000km seems to be the general norm on this site, and its good practice. Oil is the life blood of engines...

Way i figure it, its oils cheap, engines are expensive when they go BOOM!

hahaha shame, my changes are every 2,000kms. But i get free oil so it's not that bad. Also i don't do many kms. so 2,000 takes me a while to rack up. :P

5000 would be the best number to do it at.... i do it at 5000kms.

Though i cant see too much harm doing it at 7000kms

Esp if u buying high quality oil.

Why is everyone changing at such low km/s? Are these street use?

Track use?

The oil thread actually mentions that filters become more efficient after 4K kilometres or something, and therefore you should probably run your oil for 10K if your using a good quality oil, depending on your usage.

Just curious what everyone else's opinion is on the subject..?

Regards,

Gareth

hahaha. 10 000kms for me. Its just a street car and its not like the street is the second bathurst.

Also, as mentioned before, Synthetics don't break down like minerals do.

Unless you race your car (trackdays or drags) or it pollutes its oil quickly, I can't justify doing oil and filter changes at 5K. As above ^^^, oil filters don't start working at their best till 4.5k anyway.

10,000km is fine.. No oil loss or excessive fuel consumption. 5,000km is better when your doing short trips every day so shops and back or if your doing long distances at high speeds for example 110km/h @ 300km distance..

Both of the above will break the sythetic down faster.. use a good filter and it helps more.

Obviously with a new engine obviously thats a different story running it in etc.

Oh yeah oil coolers reduce oil wear.. as in breakdown.. but also in colder climates can reduce its ability to lube the engine..

Saying all the above I do mine at 5k..

Fully synthetic oils actually aren't as affected by the cooler temps. that is one of their great advantages.

If your car is tuned and not over fueling or used for any trackwork and your using full synthetic, 10,000km.

Many modern car makers actually recommend 20+K km servicing for their products.

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
