I tell you what, there is a guaranteed 3-5 seconds more in that lap with a specialist ring driver. it was most certainly not a perfect lap

i agree there are some parts he was scratching his nuts. then his chin, and back to his nuts again.

and in them bits i am usually flat out on the ps2 :D

Wasn't going to come out and say it, but i totally agree. There were several corners that he took casually, and some where he hammered it.

He annoyed me a little. At times the driver didn't seem to be really focused (on the nut-scratching bits). On the final straight he was looking at what appeared to be a timer, on the passenger side, he might as well have reclined and pulled out an Extra Dry.

Either way, the time says it all. Great run.

hahah I'm not saying he's a neville out for a sunday drive, he drove very well. But some of the lap times we are comparing it to are done by people with enourmous experience at that track - and it would be the hardest track in the world to learn.

The ring is such an interesting one. The guy that runs this company (Theo) - http://www.rent-racecar.de/gb/ - is a guy who I met and races Porkas around this track and he took me for a hot lap around the track and I damn near pooed my pants (and that would have been about a 9 min lap)! Now one of the things I found interesting was that he said he has done over 4,000 laps of the ring and yet he says he still learns something new everytime he goes out there. But then he knew it bloody well in my eyes. Now I only did 5 laps and only 2 of those were in the dry but what I did learn about the place in real life (compared to playstation laps) is a lot of it flows predictably and yet those "interesting" and difficult spots were the ones you very quickly remember for the next time you went around. So I actually reckon within 1 day you could have the track fairly well nutted and Theo agrees with me.

That said I just can't imagine what doing a 7.29s lap must be like. It is so ridiculously fast. To do that time it means the average speed was around 166km/hr. Now that is close to what the V8 Supercars average at Phillip Island which is the fastest track in Australia (Hell its the fastest average speed track on the MotoGP calander. But the V8 Lap record for PI is an avergae speed of 171km/r. For Eastern Creek its 157km/hr) The video footage doesn't do the average speed of that place justice and 99% of the corners are blind and the track is bumpy and not overly wide. AND - there is bugger all in the way of run-off around that place if you get it wrong so complete commitment is tough. And then also consider that the rise and fall of this track is over 300m and surrounded by forrests with shadows everywhere, so you can be sure that on any given lap there will be differing levels of grip at different sections of the track. The point to all this being that even someone with 10,000+ laps under their belt I don't think is ever going to do a PERFECT lap around that place - but that anyone has done 7.29 is just..... mindblowing!

Ppl commenting on how he wasnt quite there for a few conrers, its a long bumpy track so dont believe anyone woudl ever do a perfect lap. Thing is in a car like the GTR with all the electronics you would be making less mistakes then you would in other cars.

and yet the lemans cars did it in 5 minutes..... I found that INSANE! not completely the same track but with an extra pair of 90's and a 180 in there on the main straight.. as if that wouldn't test the living end of your brakes.

100% commitment to not care if you drop the car your running into a fence.. that same car that you trust to do all the stuff you need it to.

5min, are you sure? that would repuire an average speed of 250km/h

"One Lap of America proves the R35 on circuit is a failure"

The stock GTR in the One Lap of America finished ahead of ALL the stock z06's. So if the GTR was a failure, then i guess the z06's are a complete embarrassment? :P

I have to disagree with you on this. Toshio Suzuki IS a specialist ring driver. He has racked up hundreds even thousands of laps on the Nurg. I doubt that another specialist driver would be able to duplicate that time, let alone beat it. The reason is that Toshio has been driving the GTR ever since it was in prototype form. He is accustomed to the way it handles and knows it like the back of his hand. You let another pro driver jump into the GTR and there is no way they will be able to extract every ounce of performance from it like Toshio has.

It wouldn't supprise me (and it'd make great viewing) if Jeremy Clarkson did a segment on Top Gear where they saw what a "normal person" could do the ring in, with a GTR. This lap time has created a lot of hype (as well it should), and it would be interesting to see what sort of time someone like jeremy could pull in the GTR.. That would give some indication of how much of the lap time can be attributed to the driver, and how much to the car.

Every company that tests there has their 'gun' driver that sets the fastest lap times for their road cars at the Nurburgring. For Porsche, it's chief test driver and former rally ace Walter Rohrl. There wouldn't really be much to separate racing car drivers that have done 500+ laps of the place, methinks.

As for n00bs- even given all day, i reckon most of us would struggle to get into the low 8 minute range given the same car

I wonder how many of you guys that are chipping him for his average driving at places has done even a lap of the place...

for real!

now I know snowman has!... how about the rest of you?????

I will eat my hat if there are even 10 people here who have :)

I haven't for sure, but I have seen the next closest thing - pete (fatz) doing a lap in a diesel renault hire car, launghing like a lunatic all the way. the passenger even turned the acmera 90o after a while when they got bored lol

oh spewing I even found the thread where the video was hosted

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Nu...&hl=renault

looks like we were all talking about this 2 years ago.

and there are 2 more sauers in there that have done the ring so we are up to 3 so far lol

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
