I had a Rb25DET motor from a 97 R33 GTS-T. I had it for sale for ages(3 or 4 months). perfect motor. Finally sold it for $1500 complete with loom, Turbo. gave honest description on the ads

My mate bought a 96 GTS-T which had 1 cylinder was down on compression. He took the motor out and put a used piston in, new headgasket degreased the motor

and then put it up for sale as fully rebuilt with rb26 rods, ACL bearings, N1 Pump etc etc etc. I was horrified.(And I never use that word) He said that there was to many rb25s for sale at the moment so he had to make his stand out abit. He got $2200 within a week (No Turbo)

shit like this pisses me off even if he is a mate.

Put me off buying used parts that have claims of being "rebuilt" What do you guys think

Right.. Name and shame.. Some poor sucker has a Rb25 with standard rods.. Saying that sounds like alot of stories ive heard about mechanics nicking your parts and saying they got installed old parts disposed of.. hmm

f*kin rorting dog... why cant people be honest, same thing happend to me

bought a rb30 2years ago, told me it was original turbo block blah blah blah, my intentions were to pull it down anyways and do a big rebuild which i did..

but when i found out it was a ser2 na block, it just made the back of my neck burn a bit and i felt very betrayed..

2months later i found out it was na, the old owner got his na piston threw his front windscreen, then the other pistons threw the other windscreens...

jus be f*king honest..

this is one area where paper work doesnt go amiss, ask for reciepts when purchasing "rebuilt" engines.

signs of a rebuilt engine"recent" is the ever present gasket glue around the sump and main seal, and water pump housing.

in areas the head gasket protrudes from under the head, and from memory you can see the head gasket part number at the front right...

undo the oil cap and have a look inside, stick ya finger in there and run it around, even if the engine has been used since its rebuild, if the job has been done properly there wont be any crap on the underside of the cam covers.

good stuff! honesty is quite rare now days. I've had people crack the shits with me cause I ask too many questions or pics when I'm about to buy something.

lol think thats bad i bought a RB25 with no dip stick....and the owner still thinks hes in the right and thinks he told me about the no dip stick ;) if he told me i woudln't of bought he also told me its rebuilt blah blah blah i danno if its true but hte motor hasn't skipped a beat touch wood hehehe but yeah liars just makes me want to throw some pistsons too :)

yes i often wonder about many of these so called built engines you see in cars at auto salon and in magazines...They can bs all they like about whats inside and nobody will ever know

Yep. My engine has sick LS1 internals that are custom laser cut to fit into my reinforced block, and I've cut up 2 sets of S2000 cams so my car has VTEC too.

Don't even start me on the turbos that came off a Veyron.....

yep, very simple. no receipts = no rebuild. just another fantasy. your friend is a tool and there will be some nasty karma headed his way soon. no matter how clever he thinks he is people will soon cotton on to the fact that he is in reality a thinly veiled theif. if you want to make good relationships with people and be able to trade on forums and the like easily then you need to be 100% honest and up front about everything. I always am in my ads and dealings and I think my trader rating bares that out. a good reputation takes ages to build and seconds to destroy and to me that is worth far more than a couple of extra bux by ripping someone off.

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
