You're already in Melbourne, so get some S6000 off Birds as Full Synthetic

Equivalents are Motul 300V, Elf Excellium

Off Birds again, if you're happy with Semi- get M5000 for daily use at $45 and change every 5000km

Nissan oil filter is hardly much different in efficiency from Ryco > but go into the VIC Subforum here on SAU and talk to the best workshops > establish rapport for the future :thumbsup:

Yes SYN-X was an existing product, but it came after M5000, so it was one reason not to continue M5000. It also meets a later specification (SM, as opposed to SL).

It wasn't so much the cost to produce that was too high, because they can just incorporate this into their pricing (and they have done so). But yes, with the time consuming mixing process, it's not worth interrupting production of the other, faster moving oils. It still came down to storage though, because mixing expenses/time aside, for GW to produce Sougi they have to make a ~30,000L tank of it at a time...so holding ~6,000 bottles of beer on the wall that could be used for other oils just isn't viable for a slow moving product, nor was the justified expense of obtaining seperate mixing equipment. Last I spoke to Andrew was just over a year ago, and he sounded less certain about whether they would produce another batch or not...from your more recent conversation, it sounds like they've decided against it for good in lieu of the new synthetic.

Whilst not a direct S6000 replacement, I have heard about the new full synthetic. Reason I haven't said anything about this in regard to Sougi, is because I'm not sure of the viscosity index yet. I'm holding out and hoping for a 10w40, in which case I will call it a Sougi substitute :)

P.S. 16 bottles of S6000 left on my wall lol.

I'm looking forward to finding out more about the S6000 fully synthetic replacement. Definitely sounds promising, but I sure hope it's 10w40 too.

GW in a way created this problem, and we've discussed this before. They never even bothered trying to promote Sougi. Had it been a top seller, I doubt they'd be getting rid of it. It should have been packaged better too with a black bottle and far slicker labeling. It just looked too ordinary for how good it was, and in no way stood out from their other products if sitting on the same shelf.

The storage issue I guess sounded genuine, but I think the mixing one trumped it in the end. They could have raised the price of Sougi and I still would have bought it however. I guess for those of us who have some stock of Sougi, it might be comparable to that Seinfeld episode... is this car sponge worthy! haha

If you want a genuine Nissan oil filter, you can try kudosmotorsports.com. I got one from there, though havn't used it yet. I'm using the Drift magnet filter currently. Apart from saying Nissan I doubt it's any better than the Ryco one. Grab from S6000 from Birds. It's as good as 300V for under the half the price.

lol too true, "this car is Sougi worthy". Were it up to me, Sougi would have been promoted better as a flagship. Given they are putting marketing efforts into more commercial motorsport these days, GW could have developed a nice synergy between other products, S6000 and the brand name. It's a shame that what Gulf Western is known for, is the $5-10 super special @ Supercheap/Autobarn, rather than rivalling Motul with the same quality product for half the price. Not my idea of brand image if you ask me :)

When you want to build a twin turbo 350 speed boat that can sit on 6000rpm with 35psi for extended periods at a time, this is the oil they use.

No marketing bs, just a quality oil for literally every single machine on the planet. It isn't something you'd really use in a street car though, think it works out almost $200 for 5L

I ran full of blue sythenitc premium oil, switch to No. zertex G05 coolant, full sythentics in the rear, front, t tCase can also be added to each 2stroke fuel tank, if automatic or manual under the Uruguay Round. If maunal Recommendation 75-85W of the (nv4500) and a good car ATF's sythenic fluid. Be honest and fully sythentics better, will make parts last longer.

Hibino, I ran Penrite HPR10 (10w50) for awhile and new within seconds it wasn't the right oil for my R33. I'm amazed still when I bring it up when I'm in Repco or Super Cheap and the sales guys still reckon the oil is fantastic. I might just be, but in my car it was horrible. It felt sluggish and the engine was noisy.

When I switched to the fully ester synthetic Sougi 10w40, the car felt better than ever. The only Penrite I would try again is the Everyday 10w40. Everything else, imho the weights are all wrong. I know companies like to distinguish themselves from the competition, but Penrite oil weights don't make sense to me considering the climate and where we live.

why large displacement? surely the new commodores and falcons are built to tighter tolerances than our skylines anyway?

Yeah the new Commodores and Falcons are, many specify a 10w30. But what I meant is that I wouldn't use something like a 10w60 in anything small displacement unless it's an absolute oil burner. It's much better used in, say, a Buick engined Commy of the 90's.

I checked my local Autobarn last week when I dropped past for exactly this - cos it's what I now plan to use instead of the old X-cess line - they had it in stock.

guess I was trying to say old is a better word than displacement, because it doesn't really have anything to do with it.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.

    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
