Cheers Dunc - I've pretty much got everything on that list except the fuel sampler and the 3L catch can (mine is only about 1.5L). But they are 2 things I really didn't know about. It's hard though when the regs for the rallies I'm doing aren't currently available to know exactly what to do.

Geebuz - I just looked it up and it seems EVERY speed event I've needed the 3L catch can.

I better give back all those club sprint and Dutton trophys. Mind you there's probably been <5% of cars at those events that conform to that one.

You're right Snowy... they need to get onto it pronto and solidify the regs.

Now with both AASA and CAMS, it's increasingly difficult to know which regs we should be building to!

The latest TT/AASA regs arn't even out yet  which makes it even harder.

re the fuel sampler....would be a very good idea to fit one now special fuels are banned. There hasn't been much point checking fuel in the last few years when there were no restrictions but it might be different this year.

BTW snowy lucky you are a short arse. We would love to put cross bracing for cage in the roof but we always whack our helmets on them :ninja: I take there are still a few bars coming on that setup

TT and TPW regs are approved and set to go, we are waiting on our web guys to sort out some databasing software for both events websites and they'll be up early next week better than ever!

the fuel sampler isn't formally required anymore, but a good idea to have as it can make drawing a sample easier than a hose down the tank filler.

that guy from the evo forum obviously didn't think that approval to run reduced size rims on the 35 might have actually been granted prior to the last targa tasmania and actully written into last years rules!!... don't you just love people that worry about everyone elses stuff for them!

Yeah there's still all the diagonals and the side intrusions to go in there - was just a running update.

And as for the roof the side-bar is my only concern as I've kept the trim in so it is across a bit. We'll have to see when the seat goes in how we go. But if it is an issue I can lower the seat because as you said I am a short ass (silly seat is lower than the drivers seat currently).

just did 336km of the targa wrest point course today... man i'm wrecked and need beers!

the mazda3 will never be the same... and neither will the tiger snake i didn't quite miss!

yeah i totally agree. For a novice driver a longer stage is much easier - the short ones are over before you get into it and all of a sudden its helmet back off, brain back off and wandering around at the speed limit.

Its novice navigators I'd be worried about on long stages - much bigger chance of getting lost in the notes. I was lucky Kel never came off notes all Targa.

Come on I'm used to Dutton rallies where events are over in 30s. I'm an expert at short stages!

It's the longer ones where the "are we there yet?" factor kicks in that I'm worried about :P

I found doing a lap of the Nurburgring pretty mentally taxing by the end and thats less than 20km's (BTG) so 30km's will be interesting.

well I've never done the burger ring, but I never ran out of interest in side a targa stage lol.... adrenalin lasted long enough each time. I felt wrecked by the end of the day though.

But, comparing it to endurance races it is much easier to stay focussed because it always keeps changing. a 2 hour enduro race stint does get a bit repetitive and I found myself a couple of times wondering what I had done in the last 3 laps.

i saw some of the new website today before i disappeared for a long lunch so i reckon it will be up soon!

the targa tas course is still being worked through, but will form much the same as this year... but day one will be better!

the targa wrest point course will be detailed by weeks end with competitive distances.

Have heard about a few of the changes and they sound interesting!

    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
