So went over to Adelaide for the ASP Rally, held around the wine growing region of McLaren Vale. I spent the weekend next to Miss Stevens who did a magnificent job in the 6 with compromised suspension and managed to get through without any major moments to speak of. A great little event run as part of the SA Rally Championship, with the Prologue and SS1 & 2 held at Mallala on Friday, 4 stages used twice on Saturday and 6 stages used twice on Sunday using a mix of very very fast stages and some really technical ones that really require a lot of recce and concentration to get right. None of the stages were overly long, in fact at 10.6kms, Blewett Springs was the longest and most varied stage of the weekend which also turned out to be the most enjoyable for us...and our last of the rally.

We had to withdraw at the very last service on Sunday due to a fuel pump problem that had the engine coughing and spluttering at anything above 4k rpm, and not wanting to break it properly we pulled the pin and got on on with partying a few hours earlier than we planned. Prior to that, on Saturday, we came through a concrete causeway a little too hot and bashed the undertray onto the dump pipe, putting a sizeable dent in the pipe. Other than those two incedents, everything else went to plan.

As a CAMS run event, and with us being on E85, we were a 'demonstration' class that featured in the results but wouldn't count. All weekend we were in the top 10 and our pace was improving each and every stage. The interesting about the event is the different ways CAMS use to limit the average speed going over 132km/h. One stage had 2 chicanes (a lot tighter than AASA's chicanes @ 12mts apart) and a restricted speed zone of 45 seconds at 40km/h...they were the longest 45 seconds ever, considering coming up to it we had a 6R 250 8R 200 RSZ...........................................................400 chicane :D

Had a great weekend and sad it's over now. Ah well, back to work :)

Why isn't E85 allowed?? Schedule G of the CAMS manual mentions E85 as compliant??? Or is it more to do with Technical regulation regarding change of injectors/fuel system? Or was this just an event regulation?

I just happened to be reading them yesterday as im trying to figure out if we can run ELF in the gravel car.

Yes Benny, RSZs do suck it, and Stu the DMS were on loan so had to go back :)

The reason the car doesn't fit into a CAMS catergory is the 1000cc injectors needed for the E85. So until someone can work out how to run injectors at 200% IDC it's useless for CAMS events.

It made the event a lot of fun as we had no pressure to chase a position...just went out and had some fun

Can someone explain to me how this incident deserves a derived time - besides the fact they are both good blokes and normally someone I spar with...

Now the derived time rule was used often this year, and like AFL umpires the interpretation seems to have changed.

Can someone explain please, cos I’m losing sleep.

Kudos to all those who applied for derived times and got them… but Im sorry the words complete & under your own power must have lots of meaning I don’t get.

Will accept any reasonable explanation.

TT

You're only losing sleep TT, that rule cost me an EM 3rd place outright trophy when it let two cars who didn't finish stages creep back into the times!

good luck to me, looks like I have one of the good navs in the seat for High Country

Lucky she is not in the habit of jumping into a better seat if it becomes available because I'd be driving and reading the notes.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
