For those that are looking to be reasonably organised and have as much info with them as possible, the individual stage maps have been posted on the THC website...these include the MANSFIELD stage map (finally!).

Don't know about everyone else, but with only 4 weeks to go I'm getting a little edgy... Team Emo FTW!

THC Individual Stage Maps

So what navigation equipment are people using in their recce cars? I don't really feel like buying another terratrip just for the recce/can't be bothered swapping it from the GTR and back before the event so that's out.

Do many people take down distances to help get back on notes if you fall off or to mark certain corners/cautions? Most of the notes that dad and i are going to take shouldn't need distances however they would be helpful on the stages where you have to turn onto a different road (though these will be marked in the course notes/road book so is there much point?).

Does anyone use their odo's trip meter for an approx distance? i.e. length of straight before next corner.

Other option i was thinking of is going over a topo map/google maps and write down the distances for the cautions that way.

Dad and I are heading down for a recce of the THC course next weekend. I'm getting rather excited!!

We just get around using the odometer in the recce car (transport stages)

Most don't use any Terratrip in recce cars, and it's not needed unless you're planning on writing your own notes, and even then it's marginal.

I typically like to mark kilometre distances on the side of the notes, mainly so the nav can tell the finish officials where/if they saw a car off, cross referencing with the officials info.

It's also good if the nav makes a note on the notes just to confirm they're on the right spot, any obvious landmarks like a big fence, or yellow sign, or dead tree, that kind of thing. The nav doesn't call it to the driver, it's simply confirmation that you are where you think you are..... and if you have a few of those landmarks throughout your pace notes, it really makes it much quicker and easier to get back on the notes if you happen to fall off.

Hope that helps

Hope you enjoy yourselves too!

For the new car I've done away with the Terratrip and got a Garmin Zumo.

Has a nice little Odometer screen + can transfer easy between cars + plays music through an SD card slot which is tops since I no longer have any radio or anything!

It's quite cool really.

I Have a Tomtom and run a 3rd party program called TripMaster which is basically like a terratrip where you can have total distance + interval/speed etc.

I usually put the GPS coordinates for the start of a stage so we can get a pretty good idea of where we are going from that plus using the roadbook (although use the roadbook as your primary route as GPS may take you the fastest way but you might end up at a road block due to it taking you backwards up a stage!

But to be honest I don't really use a terratrip during an event as get a fairly good idea where your going during recce, its there and rolling over/being zero'd but i don't rely on it.

In stage i zero it at the start, but rarely look at it during the stage, unless i get asked how far to go, or mark a car off etc

Wouldn't stress too much if you get lost, plenty of time to get to stages. stop and wait for the next competitor and follow them. Lol!

If you do spend time looking at the TerraTrip during a stage, you run a huge risk of falling off notes.

During stage its really only used as a reference for oil down/car off/dead roo on road, that kind of thing, but having to look at it and count down to warn the driver of something is asking to fall off notes.

That's why i think it preferable to roughly mark the distance of whatever the issue is in stage On the notes, and you cannot do that without kilometre markers on the notes.

Thanks for the input guys  don't think we will stress to much about the distances for next weekend.

Taking down the HD windscreen mounted cam so should hopefully be able to play back the route with the notes and note down any landmarks that we miss when in the car. Hopefully this way it will feel like i have driven the course more than 2-3 times...

Cars all ready now, new pads, semis on and ready, oil change, rad flush ohhh and a fresh dyno tune :D

So Im guessing the PMS 25 has been given the flick since Longhurst and that other bloke aren't in the line up.

But what of the Lambo's at the bottom, I hear weeksey is having a tearie cos his car isn't elligible (possible legal case), and whites are happy to do whatever to make theirs elligible?

Nah was chattin to YT the other day and he said he's more than happy to wind the spec back to comply with whatever the rules dictate.

Funny thing is, Lambo WILL actually sell you an identical one to his, dog box the lot, for you to drive as your daily, if you were that way inclined :)

would have have anything to do with white hot being a lambo dealer?

Lol maybe.... But, doesn't change the fact he welcomes returning to a H pattern. And Weeks' problem is many parts on his just simply aren't homologated Lambo parts but rather one offs.... whinge all ya like I say, but you can't make your own replacement homologated bits! Lol

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
