I used to run of these... its not aimed at just 4 cylinders... my vehicle was the car Andy tested the plug and play board on for the 33's..... Never a drama, had a problem with the installation which ended up frying the ecu (unshielded wiring behind the gate melted). Since it was a dealer that did it a new ecu was available that very afternoon... just called said what had a happened.. went and got the new one and handed over the dead one.

Unfortunately as this was a couple of years ago it wasn't quite up to speed in terms of map points....the new computer due for release looks the goods though :D

Highly underated... my old ecu is now powering a 25/30 in an R31 quite happily ....

few reasons, but they are a very simple budget ECU that gives competant results (tuned them on 4age's and turbo hondas)

i would seriously wait for a full 6 channel IGN and INJ model before fitting it to any of my customers cars.. till then it will remain the 4cyl base ecu.

I, and many others have ZERO issues running wasted injection and wasted spark. Including the 1UZFE boys.

I guess that would depend on the maximum RPM you intended to use vs the dwell time required by your ignition system...

it comes down to how many comprimises you want to make....... especially on a v8 1UZFE... dont get me wrong i have a killer big cammed AE86 here now with one im installing and tuning (if in vic feel free t drop past). i will post up the results in the next day or so.

Trent, if I am ever in Victoria, I'm definitely going to swing past to check out your setup, I hear a lot of good things, and would like to have a look-see and say Hi sometime, unfortunately though, I'm from Wollongong (Just south of Sydney)

I'm also planning to wait until Andy and the boys finish the new ECU, and I plan to upgrade to it also.

Interestingly without an Air temp modifier, the change in air density from 20 deg to 80 deg C is 20.5 % which if uncorrected would result in a 12:1 AFR (20 deg) going to 9.96:1 (80 deg) or if it was tuned with an air temp of 80 deg at 12:1, then you would have a 20 deg AFR of 14.46 !!

Adaptronics are quite unreliable, lots of great options but lots of dodgy drivers etc. That pulse racing at menai raves about them but apparently all their computers have been replaced at least once...

That's an incredibly general statement and I very much doubt it is backed up by anything resembling a fact.

i've had mine for over 2½ years never had a problem with it, and i know a handful of people who have had them longer who havent had any issues

i've had a few with connector issues, they use the cheapest damn conectors for the main power and earth circuits its embarrassing. Other than that they are a capable low end budget ECU, i certainly would not run a big dollar engine off one though.

Yes I had a connector issue unplugging and reseating fixed it but.

just what you want on a big build.... an ECU cutting in and out at 7000rpm......

Honestley if the swapped to another connector type i would use more on 4 cylinders, if they upgraded again to 8 drivers then i would use more again.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
