Roy
I have been hunting UK car forums and classified for months now looking for what it is a basic fun car that will give me low key transport whilst in UK and double up as a track car. I keep coming back to E36 M3 BMWs They are common, cheap and plenty with decent mods....and i figure practical enough. This is a typical example of what you can get http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...mp;max_mileage= Anyone have any idea how decent the things are to be punted at speed Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/ Share on other sites

NISMO
Roy, what about one of the many Euro pocket rockets? Civic Type R?? Not current gen, a few years back. Or does it have to be RWD and a bit bigger? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157423 Share on other sites
NISMO
Oh and arn't R32 gtst's pretty well priced over there? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157424 Share on other sites
Snowman
Yep agree - the E36 M3's are hard to go past. And we've seen how fast they can be back here too. Roy
Yeh has to be rwd and reliable for the flogging its going to cop. I buy it, my mate uses it and garages it. When me or any other friends are in town its going to be our Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Spa, Magny Cours etc car. So std and reliable and still fun to punt is what is required. There is a chance that it may even make it all the way to the place in Germany for some communal love Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157481 Share on other sites

Roy
Its not going to be a track car...just a road car with some good pads that is going to be abused, then washed and sold when i leave the shores Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157502 Share on other sites
phunky_monkey
I was considering an E36 M3 as a daily before I bought the clubbie, but I couldn't afford one with low k's on it, and it wasn;t very practical. I love them, but I know a few people think they're quite front heavy... Snowman
LOL - it's not going to be a track car but it is going to go to Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Spa, Magny Cours etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157558 Share on other sites
Roy
LOL, i bet the oil burning Kraut will throw a leg out of bed "Smaug style" after one tap of the limiter coming out of the pits at Oulton Park Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157574 Share on other sites
Marlin
E36 is hard to go past. Bolt on front brake upgrade, and if she's a fit one, it'll be all rosy I've driven them, and reckon they're a good thing considering the daily livability. To allay your "leg out of bed" fears... maybe some kind of aftermarket rev limiter should be on the cards? What do you reckon Bam Bam limiter guy? Ant97GTR
Good choice and hard to go by for coin like that Great handling car and, in factory form, fairly neutral from a balance point of view (easy to control the oversteer). Bad points include the fact that if they are abused like the way you treat the gtst they will break things and parts stamped with the BMW logo aren't cheap Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157611 Share on other sites
Roy
Brake pads and fluid and maybe a harness if i can get one to factory mounts is all the car will get. The only other car i can think of would be a Prosche 968...but doesnt have as much space for 2-3 guys on a tour Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157618 Share on other sites
Snowman
Come on mate give SMAUG some credit - he's done a LOT more than just that. He's blown the engine, gearbox (x2), clutch plates, front diff, rear diff, a turbo, 2 rear shocks and a tyre on the track (not all at once thank god ) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157621 Share on other sites

Belsil80
He's blown the engine, gearbox (x2), clutch plates, front diff, rear diff, a turbo, 2 rear shocks and a tyre on the track (not all at once thank god ) if you could blow 2 gearboxs at once then i would give you gtr drivers so much credit. ooo what about this M5 - and you can comfortable put the irish birds in the back Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157684 Share on other sites
Roy
I love Irish birds....oh Emma! .... and yes, The M5s seems hell cheap as well. Only perhaps the 5l V8 isnt the best thing for the long kms between places Economy wise Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4157740 Share on other sites
scathing
I've got some colleagues who work in the UK and are track mad. I'll ask. Most will say the E36, or a DC2R. If you have a little more to spend, an old Porker. Got a budget for me, to help with the enquiry? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4158735 Share on other sites
Roy
Old Porkas would be the sort of thing i bring home...not buy as a track car to thrash as they are not that quick, hopeless in the suspension dept and expensive for parts. E36 is good in that i can throw some meaty 16" semis in the boot for hammering around on, The budget is about 6k max. Anymore and i risk doing too much damage to a decent enough car. I am buying a Cossie while i am there to brign back as a private import, and really if i am going to spend more then 6k then i am better of jsut repairing the stuff that breaks on teh Cossie at the track Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/237623-euro-track-car/#findComment-4158808 Share on other sites
