Hey Guys,

I was going to post this in "WARNING: 15 year rule changes" but I felt this required its own thread.

Obviously the question on all our minds is.. "How much?"

What's an r32 GTR with low km's (less than 120,000kms wouldnt be too picky for a japan-born car, surely) privately imported going to cost.. UNDER THE 15 YEAR IMPORT RULE!

in other words I won't have to get the car complianced.

How much will it cost for this car landed?

I can just see my black GTR sitting in my driveway now..

You should keep in mind tho that a GTR can be expensive to look after, especially if its that old (and I don't believe any GTR has had an easy life).

Oh and don't forget its at least 12 months before you can bring in a GTR under the 15 year rule....

I'd say $15K landed, but it could be another $4k for registration requirements, rego, tyres and engineer. Rumours are going around that they are making it harder and harder to pass and register imports.

Keep in mind all the good 89 models are priced similarly to 92/93 models.....

Probably better to see if you can find a local GTR, test drive it, inspect it and buy it right away for 27k than wait 1 year for a paid car and not know what your getting.

You might not get the fancy wheels, turbo kit and suspension upgrades, but at least you will have peice of mind and understanding of what where exactly your dollar is going.

15 year old imports and compliance is a different story, it could cost you upto 2k to get it complied and about 2k to get it on the road with a RWC. r32 GTR with some goodies goes for around 16k-18k in jap, once you factor in the shipping costs and cost of getting it on the road, buying one already in australia seems to be the better option.

You need around 30k for a decent GTR, imported or australian.

i agree with darkstar.....dont like the thought of buying a car, esp a gtr and leavin it who knows where for a yr. im sure things will go missin. maybe even be raped by a forklift here and there.:)

sounds to me pentae that u got ur mind set on gettin a gtr for bottom dollar rite?? as posted before the cheapest ive seen 32gtrs in japan are around 15k mark....so under 18k maybe on road. all i can say is what u pay is what u get generally quality wise

Yep..... Know all about the new rule as of a few weeks ago anyway and yes you can get a good R32 GTR for around 15k + on road but they are starting to get a little difficult to get the untouched one's but I managed to get my hands on a stock standard un touched R32 GTR Skyline grade 3.5 but yep its stuck for another year atleast!

As R32's were not made until the 6/1989- so by the time your import approval is done and its sent your looking at late 2004 or early 2005. But if you get a good one I think well worth the wait as long as you have somewhere that it can be stored safely......

Theft in Japan is knowhere near as bad as here though.

also, once the date comes closer when you can actually import them the demand will increase and so will the price. they are only cheap now because no-one is buying them, there is too much risk involved at the moment.

As good as Nissans are, you are buying a 15year old performance car, whose parts, be it new or 2nd hand are expensive when compared to many other imports.

Not trying to deter you from buying your dream car, just be aware that like any 15year old sports car, it may be wise to have some dosh left over to cover things like tired clutch/gearbox.

Or more realistically suspension parts like control arms, castor rods, shocks etc. No matter how carefully the car has been drievn some parts simply wear out.

I don't intend on buying the car for at least another year.. and no I don't necessarily want to pay bottom dollar.. I just don't want to pay 30-35 grand which is what they are asking for r32gtr's at the moment.

I don't intend on buying one until the cars start coming in. What i'm hoping that will do is drive down the price of the later model GTR's (the r32 stopped in 93 or 94) to around the 22-25 grand mark so I can buy it.

And yes, I'll probably have 7 grand set aside for tidying it up and bolting on some good quality modifications.

I imagine these cars will also bring down the price of the r33's and the r34's will follow. by the end of 2004 it would be VERY sweet to be able to pick up an R34 GTR for around 50 grand.

Good call,no point buying a car that you can not afford to run.... Expect to spend some money but if you your in the market for a R32 GTR,buy a good one at that money and spend 10k or so on it would make for a great R32 GTR if you get the write example.

Can not import 1989 R32 GTR under the non 15 year old sceam unless you want to pay big money for complience which in that case you may aswell buy a later model.

As a current owner of a GTSt, i dont realy mind if the 15year rule blows out, if good R32 GTSt/R start coming in at mid teens im going to be sitting on a pile of scrap metal.

I wouldnt worry to much as I dont think under the new complience sceam that many people will import R32 GTS-T's and S13 Silvia's/180's due to the cost of complience making them to expensive and not enough profit margin in them so this should help them keep their value as their will only be the 15 year old vehicle's coming through in those vehicles.

That is true but still needs to be engineered though so as long as it is not to crazy or can be put back to a registable looking vehicle and road worthy vehicle you can do no problems with a 15 year old vehicle.

    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go       
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
    • EMU Classic. For what I need it to do I see no reason to upgrade. Link and Haltech would both cost an extra chunk of money for a lot of unutilized features
