was your EBC hidden? did they find it on the interior or in the engine bay?

i was defected for an ebc as well. was there anything that they overlooked though on your car?

I don't think he'd want to go saying on a public forum. :)

Once they find one thing, they usually wont bother continuing to look.

If you get defected for 1 thing, 90% of the time, you have heaps of other defectable items.

Nah apart from that the car is pretty stock mate

That is so damn true

On my defect form it says that the defect is minor

yet it needs a full inspection? i just dont get it

couldnt this be a cop shop thing...where it would save me time and the hassle of it all?

If its a minor defect you can remove the EBC and get the defect cleared at Sturt. Do it, it'll save you $$$

well i took half a day off yesterday as flexi time and riped the boost controller out

went down to the cop shop and the officer there had no idea but wanted to see where the boost controller is

so i showed him what i ripped off and it has clearly labelled "Boost control valve"

he was happy with it and signed it off so now i can drive the car till 9th of april - 2pm

the regency appointment is at 9th of april - 1pm

good little bit of info:

http://www.lawhandbook.sa.gov.au/ch10s08s04.php

Be sure to read the "A defect notice MUST contain:"

I believe that if your defect notice fails to mention any of the criteria, you can take it to the police station to be cancelled?

It also says that a minor or major defect may be issued if:

"If further road use would cause imminent and serious safety risks then a major defect notice is given; in any other case a minor defect notice is given. In which case the notice is to be given to the driver, the defect label is to be affixed to the vehicle, and a copy of the notice is sent to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles."

I don't believe an ebc has imminent safety risks.

And heres part of the road traffic act - enforcement - defect notices:

A police officer or an authorised officer may for the purposes of examining a vehicle

under this section—

(a) cause the vehicle to be examined by any other person; and

(b) drive or test, or cause any other person to drive or test, the vehicle.

Road Traffic Act 1961

I got defected for my wheels hanging out of my guards, marked down as a minor. Took it to the cop shop at Henley and they basically said to bad you have to go to Regency. If it is marked Regency even if it was minor, you have to go. Kinda bullshit because that is blatant revenue raising at its finest.

The Defect:

R33 GTS25t S2

7.35pm 20/1/09

Hill Street, Campbeltown

Minding my own business in heavy traffic, not boosting

Sent to regency (major defect)

Was given 72hrs to drive car normally, after that only to and from places of repair/picking up parts

Once I had fixed the defected items, Holden Hill Cop shop checked it and I was able to drive until inspection

Done For:

Atmo-BOV

Cracked Headlight

What I did to prepare:

Replaced BOV with factory item (bought from PSI Parts over forum)

Replaced metal intake pipe with silicone item with correct plumback piping

Replaced headlight with used one from adelaidejap wreckers

Removed Turbo Timer

Removed Boost Gauge

Replaced Battery with RAA sealed calcium one

Fixed some minor coolant and oil leaks (done at Morpowa in modbury)

Gave the car a THOROUGH clean and detail, including hours spent in the engine bay

Dressed neatly for regency, and tried to be polite and well spoken

The Regency Visit:

12/04/09

Passed First Time

$137

Mentioned Tyres we're getting a bit low but said they were ok

Said my battery was the incorrect type, but wasn't going to fail me for it (so he was wrong, or the RAA book is wrong...I'd back the first one)

Non-Standard Items that got through:

HKS Super Power Flow Intake (Pod Filter)

Cat-Back Exhaust

FMIC, cut reinforcement bar and cut sheet metal for pipe work

17" Enkei Rims, well inside guards

    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
