after speaking to geoff, he informed me that getting the fuel from csr was impossible as the big fuel companies have signed contracts for the next 6 months preventing anyone else purchasing e85, however they are not using it themselves... and the contracts are probably going to get renewed.

aaargh! put new rims on the car and my guard roller broke before i got to the rears.... no point changing fuels while its scrubbing :)

update:

filled up with a tank of fueltown e85... which is supplied by powerplus (racefuel manufacturers)

the first thing you notice is the differing smell... its not as sweet as the CSR (united) blend, and smells a lot more "fuely"

we threw the car on the rollers and the AFR's were out by 1 (richer)

we tuned the car for the new blend, and ended up pulling out 10% fuel and 5 deg timing on the top end for the SAME power...

same dyno, same tuner, and pretty much identical ambient temps :)

i spoke to the guy that got fueltown onto 85 and he was saying that united rate their fuel at 104 ron, and powerplus call theirs 106! (the pump however says 104+ just to be on the safe side)

the differing smell is due to the fact that powerplus use wheatgrain ethanol, whereas CSR use sugarcane ethanol

both fuels are blended with 91 ron.

we did a comparison graph, with the CSR and the powerplus fuels, but i forgot to grab a copy...

next week when i'm back at status i'll grab them and upload them unless trent beats me to it :)

For the southland E85 Power is the same, but needs 10% less fuel and 5 degrees less timing to get said result. (red line represents first run with old e85 settings, too rich and too much timing)

im so glad you victorians get a choice of what e85 you can run... we don't even have it on pump :)

But then i live in the CBD basically here in Melb... as an example to get to Hoppers (where one of the servo's is) and back would see me using a 1/4 of a tank just to fill it up lol.

So whilst we have "choice", doesn't neccesarily make it instantly viable. A Sunday driver ye, anymore than that forget it IMO.

Friend of mine used to take two jerry cans with him just to 'justify' the trip even then there was one trip a month being done (car was only driven twice a week, not very far)

Hamish - given they only rate it 104+, various batches might change between 104-106 by the sound of that statement.

3 months the blend might die down a tad. At least the United seems to be extremely consistent... Fueltown might not perhaps.

Just something to consider.

Where is Fueltown btw?

So does anyone havee info when a few more of them will be stocking e85 ? reading this whole thread has really made me want to try it and also trent is a full retune needed to swap over to e85?

Id also be interested in what e85 could do with a stock turbo? any ideas Trent??? im running 13psi at the moment, so theres not really any room to increase boost i wouldnt imagine

Im in St kilda so fueltown isnt too far at all! and the car is only a weekender so it wouldnt be a hassle fueling up.

Im ASSUMING the injectors and stock turbo would be the main things holding me back? ive got an aftermarket fuel pump, which would be fine.

Would there be any worthwhile gains to be had???? if there is, ill be knocking on your door Trent!!!!

R31Nismoid dismissed me asking this question in another thread. Overall consensus of e85 fuel was that you seem to be able to get more power out of a particular sized turbo then what you should. Therefore its better to go on the smaller side for a particular power level.

Although R31Nismoid does have a point that a full retune is quite costly and there would be better ways to go to get more power (upgrade turbo).

As you said the problem will be the standard injectors as you need 25% more flow just to maintain your current power level.

And is it worth the risk of potentially ruining your turbo.

seraphyn_r33 - you would run out of injectors before you make any use of E85 on a stock turbo unfortunately.

So you would retune, and not make full use of E85 without fuel.

You should get around 230rwkw on a factory turbo with E85 @ a rough guess

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
