Hi guys,

I am about to buy this car:

http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/NISSAN/SKY....aspx?State=VIC

The owner says it a nismo built engine, what does this mean? just that it has N1 Turbo's? or that the internals are stronger?

He says the engine block has a different unique code and built by nismo.

Can anyone please shed any light?

Have you tried asking the owner?

i'm going to go with no, he hasn't asked the owner.. :P

looks like your average run of the mill RB26... get the VIN/engine number and get someone to run it through FAST for you? see if it is a) the original engine, and b) anything special..

yep i asked, he said its different.

He said it come with stock nismo fuel pump etc too.

I will have to get someone to fast it to be sure though.

I was hoping someone could tell just by looking at the engine bay.

Easy enough ask the owner for reciepts or paperwork to prove that is the case...no paperwork no deal. Besides I'm not even sure that the Nismo "S' tune upgrade dealt with the internals at all, I was under the impression that most of the 'S' tune was bolt on stuff upgrades but I could be wrong.

Check the Nismo website for more info....

BTW that car screams defect me

- As it is series 2 R33 Steering wheel is defectable as it is not the drivers airbag one.

- Front bar doesn't have factory indicators

- Front bar looks to have an oversized front mount intercooler (Attracts Attention)

- POD in engine bay uncovered.

Just letting you know what you are in for. Plus run a check on the plates for hoon hotline etc or reports as you could be buying other peoples problems as well.

If you ask me it's your general run of the mill ricer from Japan, history will be grey and from the looks of it. It is either stock as a rock with parts added, or a brilliant upgrade with mods well hidden under the bonnet.

hey mate,

definatley not some nismo edition.

nismo editions has nismo rocket covers on them and also a little nismo plate inside the engine bay.

this car on the other hand looks like a roughly worked stocky,

thats it.

if you need anymore info let me know, cheers

Hi Guys,

Just got off the phone with the owner.

He is adamant that it is an S Tune engine, as this appears to be written on the engine block he says. He said something like it has the S in the engine number on the block and that it was a factory S Tune. I asked him to email me the VIN and Engine number so I can get is fasted.

The post from Adzmax indicates that an S Tune engine looks totally different though, so this is a concern.

He said it will come with the stock steering wheel with airbag, and stock airbox. So it should all be roadworthy!

Hopefully it all works out okay, because I think it looks like a very nice example of a GTR and a rare colour too. What do you guys think?

^^Thats right.

If it was Nismo Built or a S-Tune S1, it would look like what Adzmax posted.

It says its got Nismo Turbos, but anyone can get them installed here in AUS.

Seeing the pics on Carsales, it looks to be a Race spec car... Hints from the larger intercooler, radiator, Nismo turbos, Remote oil filter, steering wheel, full adjustable coil overs and all the Nismo upgrades.

When the seller said Nismo built engine, did he mean he rebuilt the engine with Nismo Parts, hence he calling it a Nismo built engine..?

Check VIN numbers and invoices for parts he has spent on.

unless he can show an auction report from japan, or receipts or some other evidence that is has a nismo engine then i'd say no it doesn't check the turbos too. if it has all these upgrades it should be making some decent power, put it on a dyno. it looks to me like a stocker. I'd say the turbos are most likely stock too.

I'm not aware of any cars being sold from factory as "S-tune" so I call BS. As far as I'm aware all cars went to Omori for work. I believe according to the S/R/Z Concept Tune catalogue I have that this type of tune was only introduced in the later 90's in the R34 GTR era - it was always the Nismo 400R and the LM with the R33 GTR so "S-tune" doesn't even come into play when they were built. Sure they have S1 Concept tune cars now but these were only done recently (see R34 era) at Omori.

Thats just cosmetic, Nismo do a "Grain" finish on the red cam cover paint and the inlet plenum.

Nismo turbo piping aswell.

Thats usualy how they come when the Nismo Omori Factory build their S, R, F and Z-Tunes

I am still waiting for him to send through the engine and vin details.

I cant wait to get it fasted, that will let us know definitively.

He says it has genuine Nismo factory fuel pump, rims?(wtf), engine and everything else nismo.

It certainly doesn't look like it thought, i suspect that it just has all the bolt ons and he is trying to say that its an equivalent Nismo S Tune...

He owns a workshop here in melbourne though so he must know what he is talking about and seems pretty genuine so its hard to tell.

Also he said its pulling 260 awkw, which definitely isnt stock!

mmm, I'd be pretty sceptical...

It looks just like a stocker with a few bolt ons, I think this guy is trying to take you for a ride.

Look at the car the following doesnt add up - these never came as an option...

- New front bar

- New bonnet

- New wheels

- New steering wheel

- New radiator

- New pods

- New dash

All of which never came standard on any version of the GTR. Also that midnight purple is not rare its very common!!!

I would do my research before possibly overpaying for this car, looks like its only bolt ons and the guy is trying to take you for a ride...

My 2 cents

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
