Hey all.

Looking at new sump for my 25/30. Its going into an R31. Will i have any clearance issues with swaybar/crossmember and the like if i get one of these enlargened sumps.

Are the RB30 sumps the same for both the VL and R31 RB30's?

Thanks for any assistance,

Chris

High Energy make their RB30 sumps to fit into skylines. The old design would have clashed with the swaybar in a skyline (have one at the workshop, was off my RB30 when it was in my mates commodore), I measured up my mates one and rang High Energy to begin explaining what I needed (a 50mm 45deg chamfer off the leading edge of the extension) and he was like "oh, we already do that now for all RB25 and RB30 sumps".

I will be getting a pro-circuit High Energy sump, was meant to already be got but decided to get some Spool rods and needed to get a 6boost manifold :)

Edit: can't see anything about baffles & gates in that JPC sump..

I'll have a look closer at all of the above. I did notice that the Lewis Engine's one doesnt make any references to additional baffling and the like.

Thanks for that gents.

I've decided to bite the bullet and get the ASR sump. Spent too much money already, whats a few more dollars lol.

For those interested, apparenlty the sump will still fit a 31 all right - incase anyone else is doing the same sorta thing.

Cheers for the tips lads

Chris

Just Jap sell the ASR sumps.

I emailed Lewis Engines about their sump, they didnt show any photos, but they claim their sump sump is a proven design which has been fitted to hundreds of track, and drag cars. They also offer another sump for $699 designed for even heavier cornering, acceleration and braking.

Got any pics of the "hardcore" one?

I fitted an ASR sump to one of our commodore cup engines yesterday and they are a work of art. Just make sure you pull out the screen and wash it out properly as there will still be some metal dust and shavings from the fabrication. All the parts are laser cut and well finished and the welding is perfect. This sump was $1300 but you can see the dollars in it. I can't imagine something less intricate costing anywhere near that. though.

I have a mate currently making an RB30 one for me, I'll snap some photos when it's done. We're going to have the pans and baffles laser cut and cnc bent once we have the prototype done.

Sweet as. I like pictures lol

No it doesn't, at least in my R32 GTSt the standard RB30 sump doesn't hit the swaybar.

It is the extended sumps that might have problems but High Energy now take into account the swaybar in skylines for all their RB25 & RB30 sumps.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.

    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
