But Transport Minister Peter Batchelor, Police and Emergency Services Minister Andre Haermeyer and the state's top traffic policeman, acting Assistant Commissioner Bob Hastings, could not say how many fines a motorist would receive for repeated breaches of the speed limit on a single journey.

hmm, as usual - of course they are deceitful and covering up how they will actually be used, to the Victorian public. No proper consultation, no proper decision of the impact of whether an average speed actually makes a difference in a long journey, just money money money.

Mr Batchelor said 37 people had been killed and 827 injured on the Hume Highway in the past five years, and high speeds were a factor.

37 people killed in 5 years.. ok, i am sure a large number of the 827 were serious life affecting injuries as well, but still.. all this to save the lives of a few people who do not concentrate while driving. is it really worth saving the lives of a few idiots?

The cameras also take pictures of cars speeding past, as the existing fixed speed cameras do now. There will be a speed tolerance of 3kmh.

How much rubbish is that, not only do you have to make sure you're not creeping over 3km/hr driving around the city, now you have to ensure you're not doing it along the highway for 100's of km at a time. I mean serious what the hell do they think they're trying to achieve???

Does this extend into the NSW section? just need to know, as in a couple of months i'm going to be travelling up the Hume to get the hell out of Victoria.... and you know one of my reasons for leaving, driving in victoria is no longer enjoyable or relaxing thanks to steve bracks. I look forward to it, just being able to *relax* while driving, not stressing every 5 seconds looking at my speedo, making sure i'm sitting EXACTLY on 60km/hr or lower while going through every freakin traffic light, every damn street in melbourne :P

I can ride my pushbike faster than 50km/hr, its just ridiculous!

if that happens in sydney i could see people going to lengths to distroy them...

considering that on roads i travel regularly the average speed of all the cars together, slow drivers included, would be more than 3km over the limit.

ahh the joys of revenue raising at the expense of the public.

I will be interested to see if this really happens. The technology they speak of at present does not exist. The press may not have writen it correctly but a computer cannot read the number plate and then determine if it neds to take your pic.

I know everyone was talking about this being on the western highway at one time or another but it never eventuated.

Mick.

Doesn't NSW have it for heavy transports?

The goivernment and police still have not answered the question - how does taking a photo of you speeding contribute in the slightest to saving you from yourself?

They did somthing like this at the start of this year for Summernats. I read in the paper that a station wagon was set up on the way into town that had a camera in it that took photos of cars rego plates and searced Australia wide databases for any outstanding fines etc.. if a car was detected, the system would notify the group of cops waiting down the road. thats what they said happened, dunno if they're telling porkies?

Err, of course the technology exists.. when you go through a speed camera van and it takes your photo, the photos are taken back to a lab and the images are scanned automatically and your number plate is pulled out by a computer.. the fine is then issued.. I don't think a police officer is even involved in most instances, its all automatic.

Our Country contains more car enthusiasts than any other in the world, and it's government also makes more revenue from speeding offences per capita than any other Country in the world (that includes the USA)

Something needs to be done to stop revenue raising in the name of safety.

To Quote the article "Speed was a factor" .. Speed is a factor in ANY ACCIDENT according to a police report, because for an accident to happen two cars have to be travelling at a speed inappropriate for the accident to occur in the first place.

SPEEDING being a factor in an accident is not being above the speed limit, but an inappropriate speed for a given situation.

Aka TOTAL BULLSH*T.

This is not correct at present all photos are inspected by an actual human.

Mick.

Mick, I'm almost certain that in NSW at least, ppl do *not* check the fine, it is issued automatically after OCR.

And there is average speed checking for heavy vehicles average speed in NSW, they are called "Saftey Camera" sites, on bridges all over the state and they calculate the average speed.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
