Haven't found a specific thread yet for this cold air intake mod. Anyone care to share what they ave done to get colder air in, or if thy ae instaled the official "powerduct"?

Bet there's a bunch of people who've made there own.

I thought I saw that a while ago! Nice work; I like the home job coz thats what i wanna do. what about the air filter? What did you use there? Are you actually getting colder air u reckon?

I made one by using a tub (like an icecream tub but actually had nails in it) about 140mm square behind the LH headlight cut a hole in the base near the top and fitted a one litre castrol oil container (so that it was also black) with the top and bottom cut off going into a hole cut in the front of the top of the standard airbox. Sealed all joints except the one going into the airbox to make it easier pull apart and remove when necesary.

Gave me an extra 20KW and cut a second off my 1/4 mile time. (Just kidding). No way of measuring the improvement really but plenty of air gets by the headlight at speed. Unfortunately the LH corner took the brunt when I wrote off my S1 so now I will have to start again. This time I also have an air diverter and scoop (from the group buy) to fit so that should help.

I haven't actually measured the temp difference but I am sure I am getting more cold air. The difference is noticeable at the top end. A bit less breathless at higher RPM.

Along the leading edge of the bonnet there is a rubber seal that runs most of the width of the bonnet. You need to either cut off about 4 inches on the intake side to make sure the cold air can get in. Or you can do what I did and that is fit a piece of wire inside the rubber seal and bend the rubber with the wire inside 90 degrees so it is out of the way.

I am using a K&N filter. I am not sure there is any real difference with it but at least it isn't a reason to slow the air intake.

Geniune, pfft. Genuine rip off... A little bit of your time, some pinchweld and some black spraypaint.

Spend some time making something for your car, it's good for the soul.

Save your money for petrol :( .

Either that or eoi for stainless steel structure, tig welded, bolts, pinchweld, ready to fit; $100.

Is this the thingy jig were talking about?

Has anyone gone down the "cold air induction" road? If so how much did it set you back, which system did you use, and what was the performance gain like?

That is the item. The factory one is a very neat piece, I just used a piece of flat 1mm stainless, rolled the curve into it, tig'ed a lip around the edge, used a piece of pinchweld from Clark rubber. Rolling the compound curve was the hardest part of the whole exercise.

It was the first thing I did when I bought my car, so I'm not sure of the gain, but too much cold air never hurt an engine :( . Nice induction roar tho'.

I agree with danny that it looses a small amount of bottom end power but the upside is the top end.

Consumption may be a bit worse. Maybe I will change it back and watch the economy for a while.

actually good idea i might run a full tank with a pod filter and full tank with no filter and see the difference

the only good thing that came out of it was that my wife didn't speak to me for a week....I didn't have to have 1 six pack holiday* all week!!!!

*Definition: Six pack holiday - Go to the closest bottle shop(1 minute away for me) - buy six pack - drink six pack before arriving home so the wife does not see - wait ten minutes - your on holiday! - e.g. wife's voice sounds a bit BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!....GOLD I say!!!!

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.  
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.        
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
