Long Story short im looking at getting either Sard's Attack Meter Or HKS' circuit attack counter.

But does the auto lap timer work on our tracks?

Not really interested in any of the local GPS based timers like the Ultra lap because tbh I want some more JDM Bling :P and also I dont think I will ever be at the level where I would need to Log my lines etc

Cheers Guys

Andrew

I think it varies from track to track, some use magnetic and some use IR,

you will have to call your local track to find out! and also read the specs on the counter you wish to buy.

i picked up one of them little blue ultra lap timers, and IR sender for a good price. they are worth a shot.

for 375 complete unit/sender or 440 with download module the price is pretty damn good!

Don't buy something that has no local support.

Ive used those ultra lap timers before I bought the Aim Pro data logger. They work pretty well and have good recall functions. I was a little less than impresed with the beacon but when its connected to a good battery it was fine.

Id recommend you go to super cheap and buy one of those really small 12 volt batterys to run it off. I still use mine on the AIM beacon and it lasts 3-4 days before it needs charging. I just made up a cig lighter cable and plug it into that on the way home. It charges up off the lighter power and I dont need to worry about buying batterys every meeting!

You can but them from Ebay as well for a good price or tweakit is the distributor as well.

Depending how you are the software and download cable is pretty good. It has a decent database and allows you to lable sessions and drivers. Only thing I didn't like is that it lets you edit times and move things around. The AIM software downloads and locks everything so users can't "fudge" the data so to speak

this is what I use. easy to use. easy to set-up. easy to read. and so many people have aim sports timers so there is always plenty of beacons at the track if you can't be buggered putting yours out. and they are well priced. and you can do sector times etc if you want (with extra beacons).

And now for something a little different, I'm going to be trying the one linked below, which is designed for the iphone.

I don't doubt that it won't be as accurate as a dedictaed timer, but should be fine for someone like me who goes to the track a couple of times a year.

If it works!

And for $5 I'm willing to take that risk :-)

Racechrono is always a good option if you have a n95 phone or similar.. i bought an external received to use with it but am yet to test it out other than plotting my drives to my friends house from day to day.

the overlay feature it uses for your video is pretty good too. cant wait to try it all out. all your dials gauges up in front of you and a position on the track :P

I actually originally bought the Xt timer for my Go kart when i took that out often. not used it for a while tho!

+1

And you can move it around to your go-kart if you are smart with the mounting :P

+ me as well.

It's damn easy to use and you can program in the different tracks. I love it.

Only down side is remembering to grab the beacon at the end of the day. After an engine prob at Wakie I forgot mine but thankfully Michele grabed it for me.

We might try sector times at Oran Park on the SAU NSW track day.

Neil.

wanna sell your Kart andrew??

You going to chop it up like the last one i saw you working on?? how did that go??

i wouldnt sell my kart at the moment i'm thinking of chucking on a leopard or rotax..

but will wait and see once i get the gtr back i may not need the kart fix

what you want to offer me for it?

racechrono (nokia s60 OS) isn't good, its excelllent.

As for the jp timers - I can't see how they would be triggered - I have only seen 2 systems in AUS:

Infrared beacon sender and receiver (AIM, motec, interwhatever I have)

Dorian in track timing.

gps data logger

the second is the accurate one but requires timekeeping at the event you go to. So the only option really is an infrared device unless you have a couple of grand to spend on a logger

    • Thanks, will do that.  Thankfully they still feel great.
    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
    • no one recommending speedtek gearsets?   i'm in the same boat as Cosline but rwd, I am holding boost back in third to 600nm at the hubs to save the gear as i make nearly 750nm at the hubs on a mainline
