Is It Safe To Run A Stock R-33 Gts-t With Premium Fuel?

hey guys,just wanted to know because im always using BP ultimate but i hardly ever boost my skyline im more of a take a relaxing drive kind of person always keeping it under boost.

so would premium 95 be alright to run as long as im not boosting the crap out of it?

i think 95 would be fine considering your driving. i personally always use 98. i assume ur reason for 95 is cost or is it availability in your area?

They are tuned to run on 98. 95 requires different timing, so running a 98-tuned engine on 95 is not going to be efficient.

some Hardcore GT-R owners have actually sent samples of australian 98 RON fuel to tuning companies in japan along with thier ECU's

and what happened? see there's no end to this story. i want to know what the jap tuners said when they saw the aus 98 ron.

and why would they send their ecu and fuel over to japan anyway? i assume for a tune. which means they believe not a single aus tuner can match a jap tuner for tuning. i find that hard to believe.

this was on the GT-R article on HPI.

a guy from Queensland by the name of Chris Neale. No plate#: CCNOO

the article only stated "Chris actually sent petrol samples and weather statistics to TOP SECRET in Japan so they could supply a custom-tuned ECU to suit, So that the car runs perfectly on Normal 95- Octane Premium fuel at 1.3bar."

that was an R33, he has since upgraded to an R34....

nope...... no conclusion.

im sticking to bp ultimate,i only live in a small town and only have 2 bp stations and all their premium 95 are out of order for some reason so i took it as a sign.

on a slightly related note i noticed that one of the local BP's has taken out their 95 octane premium bowsers and replaced them with e10 unleaded ones!!! :action-smiley-069: I hope this isnt the start of a trend!

not to mention i run my car on 85% ethanol and the only "side effect" is an extra 40kw

umm e10 91 octane? you can keep it thanks, I've used e10 98 in my old VN and a few times in my R32, and for some reason it makes them not want to start and to then use EVEN MORE fuel than before. Maybe if I had it tuned for that fuel, but I don't think anything from United will be sullying my petrol tank again anytime soon.

You should also mention that your car has presumably also been tuned to run E85, and can no longer run normal fuel...

Ethanol-based fuel is fine to use if your car is set-up to run it, and the pumps/tanks/fittings at the service station you get it from are designed to store ethanol fuel. Ethanol, however, is also hygroscopic - it attracts and absorbs water - and the resulting corrosion caused inside the motor (and any corrosion picked up from the service station's storage tanks) can mean a complete strip down and rebuild if the average Joe Blow just puts in the tank of his Commodore time after time without really considering the facts. My sister was in this exact situation - she and her husband have a VY Commodore which needed a rebuild at 65,000km and when the Holden technicians opened up the motor and saw the damage, that was the first question they asked.

Some E10s are 95RON BUT there are also some E10s that are less...

Because it can absorb H2O, I'm not inclined to use this.

well here we have United which has E10 95 and 98, and now one of the BP's is phasing in what appears to be E10 91 instead of the 95 Premium they used to have. Like i said before, my commodore took a good two or 3 goes on that stuff to get started (skyline does anyway gotta live microtech's and their cold starts), and the fuel consumption is increased noticeably. Apparently ethanol can eat your fuel lines too or something?

    • Does this count as a time trial as well? I got all gold in the master super licence (1 lap time trial) and received a McLaren MP4/4 for my trouble.  If anyone else has done this, did you ride the wall right around the first long right hander at Lake Louise snow track to get gold? I couldn't do it any other way... best I could do without riding the was was within 2 tenths of the gold time.
    • I definitely get the low power, sporty car to drive to smash gears but not be doing eleventy million miles an hour! It makes all the normal drives fun!   Rev match tune sounds like the funs! I didn't know the NC had a DBW throttle!   As for me, still have the Skyline, it still has the Barra in it. It's been pushed to the side of the workshop at the moment. Pretty much waiting on me finishing the wiring, and dropping new fuel lines in. Got myself an ACDC Tig end of last year so been teaching myself TIG welding to build a few things for the Skyline. The missus wrote off her GTB liberty at the end of last year, and got it back on salvage rights stupid cheap. It's also still registered, so will mean easier for me to take to the track already done most of the panel damage, just playing "clear the workshop" to make space to pull the motor and box out, fix some oil leaks, replace the clutch, and replace a few minor broken things.  Also got a Lathe at the start of the year, which is adding to the annoyance of no space, which is another reason I'm trying to build things to get more space, to get the Lathe back in a final home for it. It's a BIG lathe, can turn a 355mm diameter, and 1metre between centres... Got it at a steal! So between it and the TIG and old MIG welder, I'll be fabbing some fun little shit up But we've had a lot of shit stuff happening at home, so it's slow going getting things done. But one step at a time!
    • I love Catalunya.  Got a 1:54.632. The AMG is a hoot.
    • I hadn't got that far, my main worry was the connection to the actual calipers themselves. I'm just using new (ish) stock brake lines in the stock setup. I've just had a stud welded to the knuckle that is a little lower than the original stud (so my knuckles have two studs each side) to not have it be stretched so far in previous BBK setups, so the "block" (in the second picture) mounts a little lower for me and I hope I don't need to change anything. I may have even changed the connection to the calipers in the past and have since forgotten I did that. I may not have. Guess how I'm gonna find out. Source: hopium
    • It's more so I'm using the 1x piece line from HEL that goes from the body to the caliper. There's no middle block/mount like the HFM ones or the GKtech ones. There are certain angles/suspension compression where the line actually slightly contacts the ARB. Below of how mine sit (not my photo): How I want it:
