When i picked up my car, the dealer told me the tyres cost approx. $1300 for rears and $1200 for fronts (each) these are the bridgestones. Pretty exxy hey.

Anyway i was talking to Donnellans (Victoria) the other day, and it looks like they will be getting them in soon, and the prices were about $400~$500 cheaper than those i've been quoted from Nissan (each). Just FYI.

Has anyone seen supply of the bridgestones or dunlops in Australia yet? And, what prices have your dealer given you?

Taleb Tyres in sydney (tempe just near heasmans) have them in stock already. I think they have one set each of the dunlops and the bridgestones. their prices were good when I was there. I would call them for sure and ask. I'd say they'll be close to the cheapest place to get some.

ull have to check postage prices, but even with the exchange rate they should be a lot cheaper.

But dnt they deliver in States and Canada only? Ic ould be wrong but i couldn't go past their shipping Zip code screen.

Yes tirerack do ship to australia

Shipping quote for four tyres is about $258US

The dunlops are $384 and $424US for front and rears respectively

So the price of an imported set of dunlops would be about:

$258+($384*2)+($424*2) = $1874

Converted to AU $1874/0.78 = $2402

Then you will probably need to pay GST = $2402*1.1 = $2642

So doing it this way, it should cost no more than $660ea landed to your door.

Email Adrian -at- tirerack.com if you want a shipping quote for your location though

yep Richard's correct. cheers for thinking of us mate.

If your interested,

let me know we have them in stock now.

And even if you dont get them off me. Dont resort to buying tyres from Nissan! let them bend you over when its time for a service instead :)

Ali

what about import tax?

If you import car parts generally you pay a 10% import "duty" - even from the USA with the free trade agreement. However, i dont think tyres are considered "car parts" - but i could be wrong :) - often am!

It's quite straight forward, I have done it many times in the past few years.

You order your tyres by email from the Tire Rack. You pay shipping, buy their cheapest option ie. FedEx Economy (about USD250 for 4 or USD 50 for 8).

On arrival in Australia you pay: 10% tariff because tyres are Japanese and it says so on the invoice (zero tariff if they were American or Thai due to free trade agreements)

Then you add 10% GST on the tyres and Shipping (no tariff on shipping as it is USA input)

Finally, you pay about A$65 quarantine and A$100 customs clearance.

It pays to bring in 8 tyres and the more expensive they are in Australia the bigger the savings.

Finally, factor in the exchange rate of 0.80 and these tyres end up costing A$600 each, delivered to your doorstep by FedEx.

Now take the new tyres to your friendly tyre shop and watch their faces when you ask them to fit them and balance for $20 each....

Col Crawford quoted $1000F and $1200Rear

Interesting, thanks. A friend of mine has a bunch of items in transit now (from tirerack) so we'll confirm what happens in his case, soon.

My wheels are in transit as we speak. The Fedex Economy for 4 wheels total 52.6 Kg is US$273.44

Will let you know what are the costs on arrival.

what hweels are you going with?

i am looking for a track wheel set up.

18 inch enkei GTC01 or 18 inch work wheels XD9 (jaxquickfit sell these)

also enquiring through Mike Bratcher from NAGTROC (bulletproof automotive - good reputation) re a set of Volks RE 30 19 inch rims (10 inch front, 11 inch rear)

Mike recommends Hoosier R6 over the Toyo 888 in 19 inch, apparently more aggerssive and same roling daimater on the 19inch wheels front and back $1300 per set + shipping USD of course Volks are $4000 USD for 19s.

Anyone have experience or know of the Hoosier R6?

Not to put a negative spin on this...BUT check them on arrival in front of staff....I had forged wheels sent from the UK for

my Exige and they where damaged the first time and the even the replacements had slight damage from transit....

Don't wait till you get home to check.....

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
