answer your phone druncan

in need wheel alignment specs stat beofre i finish the case

sorry mate missed your call today. assuming you have stock upper and lower arms you want - as much caster as you can get, 2mm toe out front and 0mm toe rear (or a bit of toe in if you are aligning it for jemma and not you )

pete how many gears do you think a race car will need?

minimum weight for a multivalve sport sedan is 1200kg, this will be way under that. in fact when you think about it, if you can build the car to 1000kg, then you can add back in 200kg of sprung weight anywhere inside the front and rear axles without much penalty....so add as many coolers, big oil tank, double pumps etc for reliability and there is really no disadvantage. we are all so used with GTRs to having to do extreme things to keep weight down that this will be a very interesting contrast.

Duncan check your PM.

Sent you a link to a very good site for buying some pretty serious parts.

I purchased a woodward steering rack today and a few other little things to make it interesting.

Not sure how it will work yet but meh,

We got it off the trailer and into the garage today (that was fun) So next weekend will probably break out the plasma and cut the crap outta it. Id like to start it during the week but got another GTR to finish first.

First thing will be getting the two main rails mocked up and braced to the sill panels so we can get some castor wheels under it and make it mobile.

I've been talking to Mark (gemini sports sedan mark) tonight about the wishbone suspension. He had some really good input according to what his found from 10 years of trial and error.

You kinda chuck everything you think you know out the window and listen to the guys who have been there done that. Or thats my theory anyways.

Yeah we have looked at that silvia. Someone should buy that thing its really well priced!

Its not exactly what I wanted and there is no real provision to fit an RB without cutting up the chassis.

Since we've got pretty much everything to build a car this way works out better in the long run.

Its a project more than anything so buying a car almost finished defeated the purpose of what I wanted to do.

When I built the white GTR I bought enough cage material to build 5 or 6 cages so we even have the material for the chassis.

It's a shame because that S13 was originally built to house an RB25, would have been perfect for you... oh well.

Yeah but unforturnatly not the way I wanted to do it. Are we talking about the same S13 in perth??

I thought it had an Astron 2.6 turbo in it last.

Is it this one that you're referring too?

I remember the guy who was building it was posting on here, or on Nissan Silvia, and seem to recall it being dummy fitted with an RB25 as in the pics. It may have then been on sold though.

yeah, he said it had an RB. I'm not sure where brad saw it with an astron motor in it? all the talk and pics I saw said RB. it would be sweet with a nice 26 or 30/26.

considering all the work done, and the fact that it's set to run RB I reckon if you're building a sports sedan you'd be mad not to offer the bloke $10K. even if you really wanted a new frame there would be so much money saved with body-work, wheels, shocks, pedal box.

Hey Brad,

If your ever over this way pop into Beaus work @ Westside Muffelers @ padstow

You probably remember his sprinter, well its been cut up lots... and lots and lots with the whole front end fairly custom. looks good pop in!

P.s. Bring the light around or get it to work and i will come grab it.

and also convince Beau to put a 20b pp into his sprinter if you pop around there.

Hey Risking.... mate pop on over to the sports sedan website www.sportssedans.com.au and join the forum.... alot of boys would be happy to hear from especially regarding the gtr you are building for the sports sedans.... be happy to hear from you soon.... Nadz44....

out. after seeing the pic I'm no longer buying this

the picture shows a 4 pot buried in there

lol you are no longer in charge of maths. I can see enough cylinders for each finger on one hand. and a rb water pump mount. you need to lay off the indian food.

anyway......get going on this real project. as soon as you finish both of my motors

The S13 HAS A DRY SUMPED ASTRON 2.6 not an RB. I have been in contact with the current owner for some time about purchasing it BUT there is a reason its been for sale so long and has not sold!

Despite being full of decent parts they are all old second hand stuff, The penske's are not worth a great deal.

I bought a set of last years FPV super car shocks tonight and there not that intense with price.

Duncan I do agree, there is other reasons as well. The chassis is the begining of its problems.

Geoff ther eis always stufff to so here!

Gee's Brad!! Do you ever stop!?!?!?!?

dont let this project slow down/stop the white GTR's racing!

If it does...Im happy to drive the white GTR....wont do any good but happy to drive it

edit - this build sounds awesome, will keep an eye on this thread! wouldnt even love to see it in person!

Chris the white car has not been pushed to the side. Development on it is still happening but im pretty happy with it atm.

It was at wakefield last weekend in the pouring rain and will be at oran park this friday as well.

Its getting quicker and Jay is now driving it as well so we're getting some good data and a set-up thats starting to work pretty well between the two of us.

Your welcome to have a steer on Friday, I know Duncan is itching to get his hands on it as well.

I've still got Duncans prod car to do and a spare engine then Jay's Grey car and my new toy, then im sure Duncan will find something else to do after that!

LOL

So.....how do you find time to work on all these vehicles??

I mean...what if I was to ask you to build me a motor, when you going to find the time?? LOL

Mate i'd love a steer but i'd be too scared!

Will be good to catch up on friday mate!

and still cant wait to see the new project/keep following it, sounds awesome!

If Chris wont take up that offer, send the offer my way Brad, ill go easy on it and just do 3 or 4 laps.

Still dont know why stretch wont let me steer his one, considering where his turbo came from

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
