we'll everyone goes stupid putting LS1 V8s in them in the states... an SR20 would be a much lighter option, but the 13B-REW is fine if you do your research on who to rebuild and tune with.

i'm sure you could get it engineered with an SR20 too... but again why you'd bother i don't know, if you want a cheap to run track toy just prep an R32 GTSt and spend the other 20/30k you would have wasted on beers!

Well,

I prefer the FD shape and SR engine :P.....

All i hear about Rotary is un-reliable, i'm sure there has been billion of debates over this and i could be wrong but i hardly see any Rotary on track days here in Melb.

only if they're built poorly and you do stupid stuff with them, keep the revs under 8k and a sensible boost level and they're pretty good

exactly. well said.

yes rotors eat oil like fuel (and they eat lots of both) and they can and do fail if poorly built, poorly maintained or poorly treated. but like any good engine if properly built/tuned/maintained/driven then they will live a happy life. and worst you'll need to tare it down every couple of years and replace a few minor items which wont cost the earth.

and when going well they area stonking good engine. the built 13B in my FD runs very strong. really torquey and the bottom end from 2,500rpm is surprising, as is the rush from 5,000 to 8,000.

Actually i think it's great idea. FD's are a bloody fat car.

If we take on a little comparision here and lets use national sports sedans as an example,,,there are 3 really quick ones in this country.

1/ Ricciodello's Alfa,,,old as but with 6L chev

2/ Hossacks Audi new with 6L chev

3/ Now Queensland based FD running an SR20 turbo,,,now this car is quick and I mean quick. Young Macfadden drove this car twice,,,once in practice at O/P on old rubber and was 1.something seconds off the lap record and in his only race at wakie beat the alfa in race two but suffered with setup stuff all weekend.

While rotors make tons of power they are as bad as an RB26 in the reliablity stakes. Sometimes worse. The problem with any rotor is if something goes wrong internally,,,the rotors are like a lathes,,,they will cut through everything. My old 13BPP engines ate rotors,,,all the plates, and the ecentric shaft. 2 motor we used killed everything bar the flywheel and the front balancer.

I would not hessitate one little bit,,,SR20 all the way.

Oh rotors are made to use oil,,,there are like a 2 stroke,,,they use oil to lube the chambers.

Neil - PP and BP rotors eat themselves by design, the ports chew on the apex seals and then they spit them out, the beauty about modern turbos and injection is that you can get BIG power out of mild or extend ports these days,

Take the ZOOM/Boost magazine RX3 it made 917hp at the flywheel on methanol with just a mild port.

Funny I never had a problem with apex seals. Granted the newer motors are very much more reliable but apart from drags,,,rotors are not really on the map. Improved prods is the only excecption,,,.

What I will say though is that I had a great time in my Sporty,,,I loved that car,,,PP's are so cool. I loved the aggresive noise and it still is the fastest car I have ever driven. I think I was clocked at E/C at 245 kays.

I'd still put an SR20 turbo in his car though.

Neil.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
