Actually I think you're wrong there martz, sure 'ring times are great for marketing but I wouldn't say it's an even playing field for comparing cars. The main reason why is it's simply too long and a public road.

Rarely, if ever, does a car have the 'ring to itself for the entire lap, there's usually traffic somewhere unless they've booked out the whole track. Now because the track is so long there's usually large variations in track conditions such as weather. And of course there is always a different driver at the helm.

so while I would accept the times, I wouldn't necessarily say it is the 'fastest lap' a particular car can do.

Agreed, but when it comes to the laps they're telling you about it would be the quickest lap they do over the course of all testing they do there(rarely just 1 day on a public day). Pretty sure they would also use the quickest driver they can find, so i reckon the comparo is pretty good.

So when are you going to drive on the ring...? Never .. Yet alone in a car that is capable of doing sub 7.30s.

Seriously who gives a sh*t about Ring times?

The satisfaction of owning a car that is the very best at something is strong reason, esp when it's $160K+ Much of the mystique and legend of the car is built around it's ability to be the best at something. The GT-R doesn't have 'the badge'...so it makes up for it with the GT-R racing pedigree and outstanding performance. For a car company to say we have the fastest car available is a big deal when you are up against brands like Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lotus.

All very valid points, but still the R35's acheivement on the Nurburgring is backed up by numerous victories on many tracks and on many tests performed around the world against many competitors and often back to back by the same driver.

Ring times in trying to shave an extra second or so might not be relevant. However developing the car at the Ring is very relevant.

Yep. I second that. I cant believe I even sent in an application to be a presenter. I think I would have shot everyone too & then myself for being involved..... bloody hopeless. I have only watch 2 episodes & even then they were taped so I could fast forward thru 90%.

So when can we see this application John? I did one as well but watched it back and it was so shit I bored myself. Needless to say I never sent it in. Kudos to you for actually applying for what I considered to be my 'dream' job. Now that I've seen the actual show I'm glad I never applied. A poor imitation of the UK show. Hopefully it will improve - the UK one was pretty crap for the first few seasons. About the only positive thing I can say about Top Gear Australia is that at least the cars are stated in AUD, kW, kmph, kg and Nm.

^^ +1 if I was a presenter on TGA I would want to level the place so nobody was subject to it any more. However, to spend your life swanning about the place driving fast cars for a living - now that's the life. TGA has nothing on the real show but the real Top Gear was a non-event at first until the presenters found some rapport and a formula that worked. It's obvious that TGA are copying the formula but they don't have the rapport, and it comes off very lame. Maybe it will improve after a few seasons but I'm not holding my breath.

I had a ball making the video. It included in car footage & a tour of my garage.

My wife did the editing & graphics & my cousin who is a public speaker directed the interview.

It must of come across too serious for them because it was actually all about cars & I

didnt have a big enough gap between my front teeth!

Not sure if I still have it (have moved house since) but will have a look for it.

I am not that camera friendly but I did try my best.

Maybe they should just make up a DVD of some of the applications. Would be a good laugh

to watch what some people got up to.

I know Martin Donnon applied. We would have made a good team.....oh well. I will just have

fun with my own cars.

YUKK, the 370z is hell ugly car.. well on the outside anyways!! its not even noticably faster then the 350z too...

So i aint to sure who'd want to buy this $75,000 car

and + 1 to what ash said... top gear australia is completely stupid, what market do we have here... considering its all commonhores and falcs!!! the Uk edition rules

hmm i would put the 350z in ugly ass bucket, i reckon it deserves the "stink bug" moniker the interior especially cheap bland plastic dash and doortrims is the worst interior ive seen since the new generation mustang i hired in the us, included 350z vs 370 interior shots.

the BRANEW (japlish 'brand new' :D ) 370 is porn.

The 350Z is "UGLY ass bucket"? and the 370Z is pure "PORN"??? LOL they are pretty similar shaped cars. Thats like saying the Porche Cayman IS GROSS but the Porche 911 is pure PORN. They are still pretty similar.

Even a blind man can tell that the 350z and the 370z are almost identical in looks. Spending too much time on the crack pipe mate. :P

There, fixed it for you.

Martin donnon would have rocked.

As it is TGA is an epic fail for one reason THE PRESENTERS ARE MUPPETS.

I cant watch it, its too painful. I can imagine TGA playing during the scene out of clockwork orange where the guy has his eyelids held open and is forced to watch all sorts of atrosities in an attempt to break his will to live.

Yeah, totally bizarre all this. It's only an opinion but for me BOTH 350 and 370Z look fantastic, very similar, but still very different, I don't understand how you could love one and hate the other. The 370 has dated the 350 a little especially the interior. I saw a bunch of 370's and 350's parked side by side at Nissan HQ today they are both great, but the silver 370Z in the foyer was just magnificent...

carporn indeed. It's good to be as impressed with the interior as the exterior.

Finally a man with some real taste and style! ;)

Dont think I would have lasted long though....first challenge I would have Pissati and the Cartoon bloke building their own Mardi Gras float....betchya they could do it good too :)

Did anyone notice The Stig in TG UK photo copy his head in the background in the start of Ep 2 Season 13 while they were arranging insurance?

I had to rewind it and the lolling ensued at 2 minutes 57 seconds LOL

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
