hey guys,

this afternoon me and the gf decided to go down to the city for a drive, hopeing we'l find some street parking so we can go QVB, anyways after going to the rocks, coming back up george st, i went to turn right onto Market St and BANG !! straight into this massive pothole,,,,it scared the shit out of both of us, i got the shits so i pulled over in kent st and saw that my front wheel is slightly bent :)

ive got rays engineering/Volk Racing SE37 forged monoblock rims, so they aint cheap!

i got out and took photos of the hole, what should i do? do i email the pics to sydney city council, tell them what happened and demand they fix it?

maybe even a quote provide a quote? can it be fixed? there the bronze colour rims...hmm

any info on what i should do would be appreciated !

cheers guys :P

Ive been in your situation before, not fun. i hit the pot hole (it is a very loud bang isn't it!!) - i got out and checked the rim and it was bent - i didn't have a camera and it was dark so i kept on going...next few days my tier went flat because the connection between the rim and the tier wasn't tight enough due to the bend - took it to bridgestone and they sent it away to get fixed - i have rays rims - 2 piece - they had to heat the metal and bend it back into shape - it didn't cost as much a i thought, it was 120 or something.....

i didn't bother going through council because i needed the car back asap and didn't have the time to stuff around and also i have heard of ppl trying and failing...and for 120 buck i cbf waiting a month or more for a failed result!

anyway just thought i would let you know that it should be possible to fix the rim - good thing about rays rims is they arnt cheap shitty rims and they don't crack and break like the shit brands :) and so they can be bent back...hopefully :P

goodluck!

Ouch sounds nasty. Instead of e-mailing try go in there directly and demand to talk to someone and get money on repair cost. Before that, take note of time/date, photos of pot hole/damages, get quotes for the repairs etc...

How to claim for compensation site.

Useful whilst we're still under the Westminster system eh what?

'Tis good you took pics already!

Good Luck!

Good Warning to all whilst this rain ain't letting up for a while + State Gov't is strapped for cash = We pay!

Well - we want you to pay Mr Premier!!! F%*kin' joke!!!

interesting but getting money from the local governments at the moment is going to be like getting blood from a stone, and if it does make it into any such court hearings, is it going to be worth your time??? by all means go ahead and try and get the money back for damages, but if you can afford it. If you do it and others follow with similar situation, then it might mean sydney's roads might be half decent in no time.... they are a discrace at the moment and really are a safety hazard, increase risk of accidents and what not....

Its sad to say that the only way our roads will get repaired properly is when someone prooves that they were driving correct, had enough distance between, not speeding, and the evidence proves that if the road was in a reasonable condition the accident (or Death) would have been avoided.

And most of the potholes and shitty road we have is because they repair pipes and stuff under the road, cut out the base concrete layer of the road, then when there finnished they top it up with sand and pour bitchumen over the top of it. After a month that part of the road has sunk a good couple of inches from where the road should be.

but what can we do? we dont have a say of how they "waste" our tax dollars....

Good luck with it Michael

Spot On wheels down the south coast did an amazing job on my Volks.

One wheel i sent was was very badly damaged (rim was nearly touching the centre)

When they came back they looked brand new.

Highly recommended for wheel repairs.

Just to give you an idea on price:

2x wheels (2pc)

Disassembled

Re-shaped

polished

powder coated

balanced

re-assembled

$550

cheers guys :)

the bend isnt that bad but i noticed it pulls abit on that side as it lost abit of air.

can the bronze colour rays rims be fixed and polished? didnt think they could

duno if its worth goin through all that trouble, im gona ring afew places and see how much they want to fix it

ps. also noticed abit of noise coming from that area, like a grinding, bumping sound, comes and goes...hmmmm

Hah this happened to me just last week, although near the airport. been my front left wheel enough for the air to slowly leak out - luckily i just got home as it went flat.

Took the wheel to this place called Magman - http://www.yellowpages.com.au/onlineSoluti...amp;productId=0 He's heaps good imo, only cost ~$90 to fix - damage was on the inside of the wheel though, probably cost a bit more if you need the outside painted

I work for Council (not that one) and deal with this all the time...

Write a letter to Sydney City Council requesting compensation. You will need a quote for the repair, pics of the car's damage and if you can pics of the pothole you hit (that will help a lot) although Council will record all road works they have done so they will have record of that particular street needing repairs anyway. Also point out in your letter that there was no signs idicating potholes or road works ahead, it was dark and you were unable to see properly etc.

Well each Council is going to do their own thing, generally Council Officers are given 10 days to take action on a task, but again that could vary i just know at my work we have a 10 day action plan :P But like i said get all that info together first, itll save you time in the long run when they keep asking for it :D

cheers guys :P

Check if your suspension bushes on that side are still on .. I lost one of the pushes (*disintegrated*) when I hit the curb recently and it was making those noises as the control arm was hitting the metal on metal everytime I braked..

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
