Hi Guys,

Our Car is on the Front cover of HPI Mag this Month, Issue No. 142, Very good article from the guys at HPI.

Just an update on the car, Have been building a 6mm thick Scatter shield around the Bell housing on the GTR as any GTR owner would know there is very minimal room around the top of the gearbox once its in the car. Somehow we persisted for weeks to make this Guard. Just waiting for a Strain guage to turn up, and than we should be putting the engine back in the car over the christmas period. The Car will be going back to Mark Jacobson at Godzilla Motorsport for a check up and retune the car at 35psi around the end of Jan-Feb.

Here is the REG 4.9.7 out of the 2011/2012 ANDRA rulebook:- The use of a properly constructed steel, aluminium with steel or titanium lining, titanium bell-housing is mandatory for clutch equipped vehicles in top fuel, funny car, top alcohol, top doorslammer, Pro stock, and competition eliminator. All other clutch equipped cars running quicker than 11.00 (1/4 mile) / 7.00 seconds (1/8 mile) are required to use a steel, aluminium with steel or titanium lining, or titanium bell-housing or shield. Bellhousings certified to SFI6.1, 6.2, 6.3, will be acceptable providing the SFI spec matches the clutch assembly used. A totally Enclosing 360 Degree, one-piece bell housing must be formed or fabricated entirely from 6mm (1/4 inch) steel plate and attached directly to the rear of the engine. Where used, Flywheel shields must be constructed so they completely surround the clutch failure. The shield should be constructed from 6mm (1/4 inch) steel plate, and extend forward to a point at least 25mm (1 Inch) ahead of the flywheel, and 25mm (1inch) to the rear of the clutch and pressure plate. Shields must not be bolted to the bell housing and should attach securely to the frame/chassis. all the shields or bellhousings must be removed from the vehicle for checking during the technical inspection. An engine support strap made of steel or aircraft cable (chain not accepted) capable of supporting the rear of the engine in case of bell housing failure is required on all cars, unless it is evident that the headers or frame rails will prevent the engine from dropping.

Will upload some photos of the Scatter shield next week, it also added about 15KG of weight to the car,

I'm surprised that after 20odd years no-one has made an SFI approved bell housing for these yet.

Either way I am so glad my car is Auto because mine has even less room that the skyline around the bell housing...not that It will be running quicker than 11.00 for a while

Hi Guys,

Got some gear for sale if anyone is interested. All the prices are only for the items, postage is extra.

These pumps are $600 brand new and this one was used once, and we changed our setup due to new ANDRA rules. Im asking $400

Stillway Shifter used once, reason for selling it is a short shifter and is to hard to change gear with a straight cut dog box, but works really good in its concept. Would be ideal in a streeter/drag car. The going price is $600 it took quite a few months to source this item.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
