Out of the Honda's I've driven, they're just DEAD once you're out of 2nd gear...

1st gear, nice and short and snappy, 2nd gear not too bad... 3rd... just wayyyyyy too tall...

Thats especially the case with the non "Type-R" spec ones, the DC5Rs have a pretty aggressive 6-speed manual and the whole NA/flat torque thing makes acceleration a bit deceptive but yeah I do hear you - the top end in your typical turbo Skyline and your typical NA Honda are quite different things. As mentioned a few times now, the K20As these latest Hondas come out with are a bit of a different beast to the 1600cc and 1800cc motors of 15 years ago.... especially when they come attached to a 6speed gearbox with sharp ratios.

Really they just need to race :) There has been no comment on what mods the Honda(s) have done. K20As have a bunch of potency, are very much not to be underestimated.

Mods are stated in the first post.

Honda's standard.

Skyline, exhaust and boosted to 10PSi

Haven't tried an R...

But the Honda POS I drive on a daily basis revs WAYYYY too high, even when just cruising... When you accelerate, it just sounds like it's making noise... Nothing else... 3500RPM whilst "cruising" at 100km/h and that's in 5th!

1st is really short, then second is uber tall compared to 1st, but not 'too' bad... then 3rd is just a bit taller then 2nd, but enough so that if you get below 4000RPM it won't go any where...

Ah OK I didn't read the first post as him saying the Honda is stock - sounded more like he was using a blanket "Just a Honda...." statement the way I read it. Yeah it'll be a white wash if its a modded Skyline against a stock Integra unless the Skyline driver has a fail, it seems a bit silly to compare!

PS - what do you have? Those sound like crazy ratios. The relative gearing in my pos Honda daily driver and my Skyline are quite similar, pretty sure the Honda reaches around 60 in first, 100 in second and 140-150k in 3rd. My almost-stock 1992 Honda runabout did mid 14s on old shocks, shit tyres, full interior including spare wheel and tow bar when I decided to enter it at the drags when the Skyline was playing up which was amusing haha.

ive owned both and stock vs stock, the honda will rip the skyline, i recon a stock dc2 type r would smash that skyline wiv 10 psi and a exhaust if driven well...

the dc2 is actually quicker down the quater mile than the dc5 integra...

and you cannot compare a sr20 to a rb25, hands down a sr20 wiv the same mods as the rb25, id say a sr would put it over teh rb25 all day long, ive had sr20's and rb25's with the same mods and the sr will destroy the rb

Hate to say it but when I had just filter and exhaust on my R33 I schooled a couple of DC2Rs at the drags... only Honda which has beaten me was an 11s turbo Civic.

what did u run?? and what did they run, my friend has run a 14.4 in his dead stock dc2r, that is a shit time in general but very impressive for that honda nugget...

don't get me wrong but in defiantly on no honda band wagon, i hate the rice burners.. but im giving some info i have experienced first hand thats all....

long live the sr20!

14.1, was a bit of a slippery track - I reckon I could have gone quicker in better conditions but never ended up getting a good meet before upgrading the turbo. The Honda was running mid 14s with basic boltons.

Stock 03 Jazz.

40/50KM/h in 1st at 6300 RPM

95km/h in 2nd at 6300RPM

125 - 130 KM/h in 3rd at 6300RPM is what I can work out.

2nd gear I'm definite that's what it'll do.

The other 2 I'll calculate out tomorrow for sure... But those speeds are basically what it'd do.

Tacho shows redline at 6300RPM.

Skyline was 60, 100, 170, 220 from memory all at 7000RPM... so only just off in terms of speed at redline... but redline in the jazz is 700RPM earlier... That's ALOT when you're talkign up at 130KM/h... If you stretched it to 7000RPM, that's 145km/h... Still alot lower then the R33, but my son of rajab, when they're lacking the torque of an RB25... It's MASSIVE!!!

howdy partner

Not being quick to assume, just think these types of questions are pointless

not enough information, too many variables etc etc

I'm sure the OP has probably driven with and/or been in his car and his mates car at some stage. im no scientist but i'll have a stab and say that will give them an idea on what to expect.

LOL at the cowboy call reply... love ur work.

i think the r33 would have it.

as much as i like a good honda bash.

The green dragon is the slowest, followed by the red dragon and then the yellow is the fastest unless its one of the other coloured dragons with a racing stripe and nos.

so in conclusion i vote that they will both do a 14.7 @ 98 unless they invest in a dragon.

We egged on our cab driver one night to drag off a teg coming out of the city and he won hands down. New teg type-s but not type r, nfi what the difference is. Anyway it lost badly to a BA falcon on gas with 500,000ks.

Poor guy, caby lolled in his face.

My guestimate is you should win fairly easy.

if it is exhust and boosted to 10 then no problem you win , you will even beat the s2000 confortably if you can do a lauch where you dont just spin on the spot, when my r33 had just exhust i beat the a civic type r easily and when i dragged a s2000 with a full car once i plant it in gear two its all over

Blue dragon's have NOS don't they ?

i disagree. maybe titan we shall start a new thread comparing yellow, blue, red and green dragons?

Blue dragon's have NOS don't they ?

yes they do, however their low end power is poor

i invested in a aqua dragon - i crossed bred it, blue and green dragons together

in a nut shell i have nos (blue dragon) as well as the low end power of the green dragon without the laggy hassles that a yellow dragon bring you

Lith, surprised you havnt mentioned mine. We discussed this exact topic last night kinda..?

I owned both, a DC2 Integra Type R, and now a 98 R33 GTS25t. And for the purpose of the topic, they were both on the same dyno, but NZ seem to have higher peak output than your Aussie dynos. So take the power as you will.

At the drags, my ITR did a 13.8 @ 100mph with semi slicks. (133fwkw) I/H/E stripped interior.

My R33 on street tires, (209rwkw), Stock airbox, stock dump, 3" front pipe back, r32 actuator and full interior 13.7 @ 101mph.

So if you bring them to the same level of modification then the Skyline will still have the edge. 60 foot times werent close, the ITR had it with no trouble. But the Skyline reels it in and still wins. Stick some semis on the Skyline, and im sure it will out launch, and kill it the whole way down.

And lets not forget our little race Lith0r.. we were more or less side by side 1st and 2nd, then your R33 started to pull away. No questions asked. Although yours didnt have the stock turbo, but a laggier version, it was still convincing once it got moving.

In the end. Different cars. Type R Civics/Integras arent drag cars. They are built as a streetable track weapon. And properly dirven will Rape an R33 on the track.

I know 33's arent drag cars either, but they have the power to push them in a straight line.

Tell your mate your convinced he will win. Put money on it. Profit.

The guy is referring to a DC5, and I was reserving judgement until I was sure it wasn't one of those nasties with a Hytech header/intake/K-Pro type combination which could make a basic R33 a real headache even on the 1/4 mile imho. Once it was clarified it was probably stock, I called it a white wash  And I've mentioned I've dealt to DC2 ITRs on the strip already so figured no need to get personal haha. That and I had a non-stock (not that a VG30 turbo is an improvement) when you and I raced

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
