Of course you will. The STi is a much faster car stock.

GTR wins hands down once you spend cash however. STi's are highly strung from the factory, not a lot of gain for the $$$

i bet u drove the new 6 speeds, they feel choppy because of the short gears. and top mount intercoolers give insane throttle responce, like one of the guys already said there highly tuned, there on 25psi standard, the gtr's are on baby boost in compartment, put the gtr on the same boost and u will think differently, the sti's are lighter and very well balanced so there tune better in factory setup.

but the potential in the gtr in street is 3 times over a sti

each to there own, just my opinion

you wouldnt catch me dead in any wrx, sti or not..... when i think of a wrx is for the people that just have no idea about cars, and just here people talkin about "rexxy's bro" and they think there the shit.... than u buy one and gotta spend 10k on the engine to make decent power, and the second u flat shift it the gearbox gose through the floor..... Grab a brand new WRX sti or wateva. and a old r32 gtr, 2009 vs 1989..... put 15grand into both and see who comes out on top.... plus remember you just spent 60k on the wrx and 18k on the gtr

i agree once you start putting money into skylines they are a better car but thats the problem you have to put money into it and if i did buy a gtr you dont know if it has oil reserve problems and youre up for a rebuild and everyone knows that the gtr is an endless pit.

I was saying for a stock car its better, i dont know bout the rest of youze but ive never flat shifted any car i have mechnaical sympathy.i drove a 1996 sti and i liked it the way it was, i dont want to spend any more money on it its an excellent responsive package.i never thought id go a suby over a skyline but times change. And 15g geez i only spent 16 on my skyline when i broght it i couldn't justify spending that much on mods but people do it and im really happy for them.its just not for me

Funny I used to think that about Skylines :thanks:

Ben, unfortunately on a Skyline forum you won't find many fans who share your feelings. Not that all the people here are biased, but people are here in the first place because they chose a Skyline over other cars like the WRX. The responses would be mirrored on a WRX forum if you put forth to them a GTR review.

If its the 09, yucky!!

Yeah f**kly. I hate that 'hatch' look. At least the old Impreza looked kind of purposeful and 'rough and ready'...no oil painting of course.

Plus in the UK WRX's are almost exclusively driven by Chav's w/ no clue about cars.

Depends on which STi he is talking about.

If your comparing the 09 STi to a 1995 - 1998 R33 GTR, no comparison, compare the R35 GTR to the 09 STi.

I must say tho, STi = Rally beast and GTR = Tarmac Warrior.

Each to there own.

STi will be a great handler and great for quick squirts, GTR will have more top end in the long run, but Nissan did not sacrifice any low down.

I can relate to Deano 1 post, but that's like most stereotypes you have on the roads.

lol at the defenders of the faith...

I'm sorry but both STis and Evos have much better low down torque than GT-Rs, making them a much better prospect for daily use, Stock v stock. Bottom end torque has never been the RB's strong point. GT-R owners, go and drive a 260RS and see how much worse it is with a few extra kilos on board.

The biggest problem I can see with driving an STi is that, since 1999 at least, they've been as ugly as a hatful of arseholes.

my mates got the 2000 wrx, ive driven it a few times goes really good on take off, his already blown the gear box and aprently the next one is ready to go to, dont know what the hell he does to it or if its just the fact its a subaru

Same goes for Evo's - way overstated 'ricer' look IMHO. Just plain Nasty.

The 90's WRX's and Evo's had more of a 'stealth' look. Not too much different to your average saloon on the face of it. That was cool by my book...like a HPV going about in disguise...let the engine do the talking. :( I really loved these cars back in the day and wanted one very bad. Almost bought an Evo IV a couple of years ago when I was in the UK but then moved back here but no way to import it.

Those WRX's are good cars. I had a buddy or two own them and they are rock solid. Evo's are a little more engineered and costly to service.

Main reason I wouldn't drive one now is WRX's are especially common here and driven by w@nkers just like the UK. The burbling, throaty exhaust that was once cool to me now just signals another to$$er. The Evo seems to attract the same types but who have a bit more $.

I admittedly have been pretty impressed with STIs I have driven, they feel quicker than they are though. One car which really impressed the hell out of me was a Mitsi EVO 9 - amazing cars. The handling, power, breaking etc is amazing from factory and they respond awesomely to modifications as well. The starting point is better than an R33 GTR, then they respond better to modifications.

They are however, still not a GTR...

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
