Hi all, a service for my car is long overdue, and I just have a couple of basic questions.

Firstly, I'm looking for a shop in Melbourne to get a service but I'm not sure where to start looking. Perhaps someone could PM me some recommendations or if there is a thread covering this already, a link would be great!

Secondly, is it worth spending approx. twice as much on Motul 300V as opposed to something cheaper like 8100 turbolight? My car is a fairly stock '92 R32 used for daily driving, but looking at some track time in the near future.

Also, apart from the obvious oil/filter and other fluids, what else is covered in a regular service?

Anyway help would be greatly appreciated...

Does a Motul 300v Oil Service deal; oil + filter + labour for $200 total last time I checked. I think this only includes oil change and no other fluid top ups or roadworthy checks? I could be wrong though..

They would no doubt have other general service packages which would include the extra's, best to call them up and to find out what they offer.

300v is real good but it is pricey. When I switched from Martini to 300v the car was much more responsive and felt real smooth. However if its a daily there shouldn't be any issues using the lower grade motul oils.

From my experience, ReCustoms http://www.recustoms.com.au offer a general service around the $150-200 mark which includes oil changes + all fluid topup's and a quick check over of the car, best to contact them as price/options may have changed.

Both of these workshops are great :(

Hope that gives you an idea, best is to just call them both and see what they offer in their service packages.

Okay thanks Rekin. If Statustuning still offer the 300V change for $200, it could be worth checking out... given that 4 litres of 300V is around the $100 mark on its own anyway.

At least I've got somewhere to start now, I'll be sure to give those shops a call.

im not sure about the 300v oil but i used the normal turbolight oil and i must say that was the best ive ever used. and it went fine when i took my car for drift and skidpan days and trackdays. runs as smooth as anything.

i got mine serviced by Nissan Cheltenham

i supplied all the fluids and timing belt ..

did the belt for $300

did the fluids ( diff and gearbox) for $40

that was trade price... worth giving them a buz just to see

but to be honest... do it urself and save $$$$$$$

dont do the timing belt if you are not 100% confident...

turbolight is a good option for a daily oil... i use it in my stock bottom end RB25 and its held 300rwkw for over a year now

hey pat man! hows my old girl going?! i miss it too bits. i suggest you go for 10w40 motul turbolight. go to a repco and get it for 51 bucks as theres 15% off motul oils and give it to someone to change up. the rb20 will love you for it but yeh if you can get that 300v deal happening that would be awesome. only thing is that its over kill for a daily lol.

Hey Jake, yeah the r32's going really well thanks mate, couple of little hickups but nothing too serious. I realised I made an oil related thread at about the same time as you. except mine was in the wrong section... hah! anyway, yeah i'll grab some 4100 on the weekend i'll do it at home. thanks for the repco hint and everyone else for the input.

It's funny you say that... I did the opposite to that, went from Motul 300V Chrono 10w-40 to Martini Sint10 10w-40 in my SR20DET 180sx and seemed to me that I got more km's running more responsive and more smooth. Martini is less than half the price, although is always harder to get (i.e. I've needed to get it from the actually office located in Rowville).

well I use Motul 8100 X-Cess in my RB25 just to be safe, only difference I really noticed apart from more response (could have been a placebo but felt like turbo had less 'resistance'), was using a genuine Nissan filter which made the oil pressure sit a bit lower than with a Ryco.

It's funny you say that... Chuckie from WA regularly tests his fuchs, and it is fine. I service mine twice as often as he does so can't justify oil testing.

I put some 4100 turbolight into my 32 today, but I think next time I'll go the 8100 X-Cess too...

I personally use the 8100 xcess in my gtr, used to use 300v but i service every 3 months or 2000kms or so and dont do any track days.

didnt notice a difference between them, both feel great and for filters, the best ive used is knn; great filter with nut on top for easy removal and install

Yes thats right got the GTR in the build up and have done too many 100,000km services on RB engines that i can do it with my eyes closed. Gts4 in now gone Matt.

We also use Martini far better then Motul and supporting the aus industry

just do the basic stuff yourself at home, it's pretty easy and works out cheaper, plus you learn

do oil filter, oil, check basic fluids and it is easy

given your engine is 20+ year old any oil will be fine as long as it's new and within the std specs from the service manual

so any 5w40 or 5w50 is fine and should be ok. oil filter is Z145A and the rest is normal brake fluid, power steeering etc

for track days, it is a big difference so be sure to read up before even thinking about it

ie have spare cash, change oil BEFORE track day, put extra oil, turn boost down, good tyres checked and drive like a normal (no hero)

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here  
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
