From Garrett Gearheads I hear Garrett is releasing a new series of compressor wheel or turbo called GTX-R . The spiel is that these compressors will be able to pump 10% more air and handle 10% higher pressure ratios (boost) . A couple of people think that it's big G's answer to extended tip technology .

The only pic I could find loks like this . Note 11 blades and all full height , no splitter or "half" height ones .

Um also Garrett claim they have fixed the swing valves twin integral gate system on their Evo 10 twin scroll GT3076R's turbine housings .

Actually that 10% more I forgot to add means 10% more than the same sized GT compressor wheel . I think someone mentioned that they are a wheel machined from a forged billet of aluminium which is the economic way to get them into production . If possible they may cast them later .

Versions mentioned (nothing concrete) may be a GTX4088R , GTX4094R and I think a GTX42R and GTX45R .

It would be great if they bought out some new GTR turbos before I get around to buying them (which is going to take forever, lol)

Glad to hear it! That should put garrett into the lead performance wise for a while. I wonder if they will charge a bunch more for these, or lower the prices of what they already sell and price these similar to what's out there now.

you can see the machining marks in the wheel. wow! billet wheel is pretty cool. the tips are on quite and angle. they look like the hx35 compressor wheels any specs on weight?

SEMA has come and gone. No new info on the net.

I've got a mate who's very keen to replace his twin -5's on a JUN 2.7 RB26 with something a bit bigger. I'm thinkin a GTX4088R twin scroll 1.06 would do the trick.

Finally there will be no denying that Garrett has a T04Z KILLER!!!

Personally the only biggie there is how quickly you could get your hands on a std GT4088R , technically speaking it has it all over a T04Z anyway .

The road to getting a 4088R to work is via a really good pulse divided manifold and probably two external gates .

Where they are better off than most GT wheeled turbos is that the trim sizes have come down and that helps them to be responsive things in their size range . If they did the same thing with a GT4294R it would be more responsive and closer to what a T51R BB can do . Lets face it the T51R still uses ancient water pump tech turbines but in 76 trim they are more responsive that a better aero tech GT42 turbine in 84 trim . So a GT42 turbine in 78 trim ...

Why? Because they make comp wheels out of billet? There's more to a turbo than the compressor and Garrett have always led the way in making an all round high performing turbo that's RELIABLE.

Borg Warner know what they are doing as well but Garrett as a company were waiting until after the economic fallout before putting this all into production.

I would always pick a Garrett over a BW.

Why would anyone pick a 4088 over a Z when the 3788 has the same comp wheel as a 4088 but smaller turbine?

The 3788 would still be a better choice for response

that is awesome watching how they sculpture an item from a block of metal - billet process is very impressive & reminds me of OCC (oraneg county choppers) when they make their billet wheels

I compared the GTX4294R with a GT4202R compressor map - the 94R has more everywhere, awesome!! Here's hoping they spool like the GT4294Rs.... that could change things quite a bit.

Thats an impressive looking map, garrett answering some of their competition perhaps. Some real world examples will tell the story. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Is there any news on smaller frame variants taking advantage of this setup? Or are we talking cost out weighing the advantages?

    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
