Hey all,

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this but I drive an r33 GTST and i'm on green p plates, i got my ps before July 1st.

Got a fine and points for driving it today.

Just wanting to know if anyone has had similar troubles and if there is anything i can do.

I will be defiantly garaging it until I get off the Ps.

Cheers.

33's weigh more so why would a r32 pass as legal? but r33 power is more.

2007? then turbos are legal, however power to weight might not be.

what was the actual fine for? if it is power to weight, you could get it dynoed then show vicroads the power, might work.

If you got your P's before July 1st 2007, then you don't have the turbo restriction, only power to weight.

Yes you are right, R33 is heavier, but R33 has a bigger engine 2.5L, oppose to a 2.0L R32.

So the R32 GTST is legal.

If the R32 was stock (which has to be anyway, because on your P's, you can't mod anything to increase power), then it should be fine, also the age of it will also result in a tiny bit of power lost anyway.

You want to know if there's something you can do? What do you expect to be able to do? You broke the law and got punished for it...that's the end of the story as far as the state of Victoria is concerned.

Hopefully you learn from this lesson and garage the Skyline / buy a more suitable P plater car.

I do want to thank you for coming forward and posting this...it should be stickied to serve as a warning to other people that you can get caught for it...and that this is far from the worst that can happen to you when you do drive illegally.

its 3 points and a big fine isnt it?

i got $236 and 3 points, On VicRoads site it says they can fine up to $1100. However I have read on here people have been let off with warnings. Thing is the car is stock, you see P Platers driving much more high powered skylines as well as other cars that are so obviously not legal.

Live and learn on my part i guess...

haha some of the p platers of italian descent around here manage to get around in clubsports and senators without getting dicked, maybe its more of a melbourne thing :P

maybe cause they own half the town with there grapes ?

my cousins family does anyway haha, all the boys of the family are driving around in FPV's HSV's ... Senators, xr6t's bloody crazy up there (robinvale)

i thought it was an impound offense these days. well, consider yourself lucky.

I'll give you simple reply mate...firstly, sorry to hear that you've been fined etc...just gotta garage it and wait until you get off your P's. Driving it is a risk and you'll go paranoid ever time a copper drives past. It's not worth it. Just gotta face reality mate.

    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
