The way this film stretches will make going around corners alot easier than a non stretch film

Im still not a fan though... real is real, fake is fake...

Real, fake, its all subjective, its not being used for weight saving, its a cosmetic thing, if you like how it looks then youll do it, if not you wont, whether its real or not has nothing to do with it here.

for those interested, the 3M product can stretch as much as 75% more than its original size (of course you wouldnt want to over do it else it would look deformed) and its far cheaper than the Hasepro film

the Hasepro product looks better in its raw form, better, cheaper I guess its still all subjective...

And Hasepro specialises in car application rather than 3M being a "we'll try to do anything" company...

Well if you just need the vinyl to fix your pillars, then I'm sure I can sell you some cheaper than they can :O

Lemme know how much they wanna charge you.

JRM: I'll be very interested in the results of your research :P could you send me a PM when they get back in contact with you, in case I forget to check this thread, lol.

Well, I ended up talking to the local seller of 3M products, and they no longer deal with DI-NOC. They did provide me the details of the 3M rep for South Australia who they assured me would be able to assist, but many phone calls later I still haven't been able to get hold of them.... So right now, I honestly don't know what I can say with regards to price.

I don't expect the actual process to be especially difficult. I've had a look, and the factory vinyl is directly applied to the steel door frame. I believe that a careful approach with a heat gun (hair dryer if you need) to avoid damaging the adjacent rubber seals will allow the old vinyl to be peeled off. A new piece can then be applied, and trimmed 'in-situ' to perfection, ensuring that it wraps around a little.

-Heat gun

-Solvent (metho) & rag

-Trimming knife

-Soapy water for application & another rag.

:(

Yeah, applying the actual product doesn't look like it would be too bad - my worry is mainly around trying to remove the small wind deflectors that sit on top of the vinyl. I've heard these are very easy to damage, and they seem to be attached with a mix of very old double-sided tape & screw-mounts.

The other consideration for us sedan owners vs coupe owners is we have to apply twice as much - adding to the costs - because both the front doors and rear doors have a spot for it.

I definitely want to fix mine, I hate seeing the sun-damage and other damage my factory vinyls have - just need to get hold of the product, and build up the confidence to take it on!

thanks again charles. its alot harder to do then it looked lol. the wing stands were the hardest to do but you made it look easy lol

some more pics of his work

It's all cool man, it looked easy coz of your help lol, imagine if I was by myself :(

And wow.... Those pics are awesome!!

Hey mate I found this thread you created via your for sale thread...

Anyway, don't wanna mess up your potential sales, but I was able to find a dealer in Victoria that can get this in (3M Di-NOC Carbon series). Although, minimum is 5m x 1.2m @ $490.00!!!

If anyone wants to pitch in I can get my hands on this stuff... Although it'll take 4 weeks to get in from date of order :(

EOI would be good... Still, I might even get the 5m x 1.2m @ $490 and sell accordingly by how much people want (i.e. 1m x 1.2m = $98)...

Cheers,

Andy

not to blow the thread but, I buy 100% real Carbon for cheaper then that stuff. kinda expensive if you ask me..lol

^ lol to tell you the truth, I didn't even think to compare the price of the real deal to the vinyl bahahaha :(

But I guess the average Joe wouldn't be able to turn the real carbon sheets into the final product... Although the carbon vinyl is pricey, I guess it's convenient and doable for most average Joes lol... Obviously if you're only wanting to acheive cosmetic enhancements only with a quick DYI...

Cheers,

Andy

Nah that's cool, but pretty much I'm offering my serivce to people, more than just try and sell off some vinyl :O

And you gotta keep in mind that not everyone is capable of wrapping the most delicate bits, or some people just can't be bothered sitting there fiddling with their R34 climate control unit for 2-3 hours just to wrap it, so that's what I'm offering.

Yeah, I got the same quote from the same dealer that you got, but I'm able to get it for a cheaper from my cousin :P

Love this STUFF

Did my mirrors and interior too!

Check it out!

That's awesome man! But I see the pattern of your headunit+din slot bracket is going the other way :)

I'm planning to do the triangle bit for my mirrors :)

holy shit bongsta, nice job, only thing i would have done different is tried to keep the direction of the pattern heading in the same direction on the centre console, but it look awesome, got any pics of the mirrors with more of the car included?

and you did what i was envisioning with the speedo cluster as well, looks nice

WHAT?!?!?

You gotta be kidding me right?

We used the same shit at my old work (different brand but looks 100% the same as the stuff im seeing in these pics) to do a bunch of cars, can get it in all different colours, black, silver, blue, red, yellow etc. We bought a few rolls of all different colours (a roll was like 30m) and ended up doing a few cars sub boxes, door inserts (including my own) and for 3 rolls of the stuff i dont remember us paying anywhere near that!

F**k paying that much for vinyl, my god.

see the difference is your work must have been buying in bulk. not small quantities to do small bits and pieces. you will always see a massive price drop if you buy something in a massive quantity then just a couple or so of sheets.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
