Plexus, Plexus & Plexus.

I USE:

Interior - Plastics, Chromes, Timbers, Everything expect carpets & cloth seats: Plexus

Exterior - Everything, tyres, windows, rubbers, body panels (except the front windscreen): Plexus

Engine Bay - Rubbers, Plastic etc..: Plexus.

MY ORDER when washing the cars:

Enclosed area is a must eg: I use the garage

1. Vaccum interior, boot etc..

2. Hoist the car up, steam clean the under carriage, engine bay, then all the hard to get areas eg: door jams, boot jam.. etc

3. Wash with the stuff "forgot the name" but by it through a mate in bulk "for detailing"

4. Chamois dry

5. Can't find it anymore but the best "non cutting polish" is Fireglaze (make sure its the Petroleum base not the citrus - you can smell the difference) At the moment, I dont polish, and just wax. Maybe once every 6months to a year I use Maguires Polish Cleaner, it doesnt cut & just cleans the surface clear of any waxes, previous polishes & road grime, Only then will I use a polish. After polishing I let it cure for a day or at least 12 hours, then come back & wax. When I polish or wax, I by from the chemist cotton wool rolls for babies it's usally about $5 a roll & about 2metres in length. I tear the cotton wool in a hand size bunch, apply the polish/wax to the car in nice long strokes about 2feet at a time, working the polish/wax into the car body. I dont apply it in a circular motion like a buffer. The reason I use the cotton wool rolls, coz I haven't found anything softer & I dont think you will either.

After the polish has dried (i normally like to give it an hour or so - believeing the longer the better), I buff it "again in long strokes - not circular" with the cotton wool, getting as much as possible off, then I go over it one more time with another clean piece of cotton wool.

Then I repeat the whole process again the next day, applying the wax. (obviously I give the car a light wash). After the wax has cured I then apply the Plexus to the body panels, & full exterior.

Long but always worth it. :)

I used the Meguirs Wet Look polish on my black skyline the other day [after washing off with Armourall heavy Duty green stuff. The Wet Look is very very very good.

My missus bought a heap of those ENJO gloves and reckoned they were crap, so I got 'em and use 'em to buff off with, they do a good job.

I use Windex on the glass, never heard of using it on the body work.

Heard of car yards using 'Mister Sheen' for that though, its common practise to use it and is a quick fix cleaner, and is even OK on the interior [but I don't use it]. A lot of show dudes use it for a quick go between days during a display.

Interiorwise I use Armourall occasionally[about every fourth time], normally just wipe down with a just damp cloth.

Ok I have discovered after browsing a few detailing forums that many professional detailers use clay bars to get a smooth finish after waxing.

So I did this:

Wash car

Any carwash will do here if you plan to wax/polish you dont need any fancy additives since you will be doing it yourself.

Waxed

I have tried mothers and meguirs gold class and wont use either again. The wax you want is Meguirs #26 its in a boring looking beige bottle with a big "26" on it at Autobarn. This is a decent easily available wax. It is by no means the best (apparently) but it will do.

Clay bar

A clay bar is a blob of silly putty really. You use it with a lubricant on the paint. The idea is the friction from the sticky clay adheres to the dirt. You can actually hear it lifting dirt. So you spray a lubricant (like a spray bottle of finisher) and wipe back and forth. This leaves the paint baby bum smooth.

Wax again

A final wax to add a protective layer to the paint. After this layer you get a fairly deep looking gloss which is so smooth to touch.

Takes a few hours but its worth it.

I use meguires for everything except tyres...

The best tyre shine is the VIP tyre shine, it comes in can with a paint brush. I ditched the brush and use a bigger one from the local hardware. Just paint it on and the tyres look like they are wet for about a week!

Hi guys, i use meguires, great stuff.

However, i heard that the 3m range are really good, better than meguires. Anyone use this before. You can't get them from the shops. Only panel beaters have them. i found a place on the internet that stock it though, but i can't remember the adress ;(

  • 4 years later...

mmmmm, to bring up an old thread or not to.

Meguair's products are the bomb, the best quality clean out, check out their new range link is in the signiture block, ill be doing a write up on cleaning my line on saturday, pic's and all if people are interested, keep an eye open in the cosmetic section,

cheers

alex

might aswell add to this. pretty old thread.

i use:

Meguiars NXT generation car wash

Meguiars Glass cleaner

Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer

Meguiars Scratch X to clean those yellowing headlights

i usually spray grimy parts of car with truck wash and let it soak in about half hour before i wash

cheapest and best tyre shine i use is.............. silicone spray. yep. cheap and effective. stays on for ages. and its waterproof so it doesnt wash off.

i use the lambswool mit with bug remover.

havent waxed or polished yet. wanna get it clayed back so everything looks new!

going to have a crack at it this weekend.

fix some scratches a stupid cat left behind and also some tree sap..

going give it a good wash..

chamois it dry & let it cool down in the shade..

turtle colored wax to blend it in, scratch X on the scratches, clay bar the car & followed by some meguairs wet look wax to finish it off.

hope all turns out well

Well the weather was great today and theres no better way to procrastinate writing an economics assignment then washing your car,

spent a few hours out this morning pampering the 33, i shall be typing a nice little write up which will be up sunday night for all to have a read,

cheers

^^ Yeah!

Autoglym polish all the way...swear by it. Expensive but bloody worth it.

AutoGlym FTW!

Bought 1 litre of it for $42 and already did the first coat of polish and it is very shiny and smooth.

Gona do another one soon.

Autoglym, especially the Wheel Protectant stuff which comes in a spray can, their wheel cleaner is also more effective than Meguiars (used em at the same time)

The best polish I've ever used was some stuff a detailer mate had in bulk, don't know the brand, but so far I'm very impressed with the quality of the Autoglym products.

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
