Let me correct you on this one budd. I own this car. It is running a nitrous Ls2 with a tricked up auto and lock diff. It has never seen the strip in this configuration so the times you mentioned are false. The car is not a show car, It gets driven daily hence its not always clean. The front bar lets the car down, but the rest of the car is clean.

Not having a go at you budd, just giving you the facts. :)

Ahh ok, yeah I wasn't so sure on the strip times as I can't even recall where I heard that lol, but good to see I'm not completely insane and was at least right about the engine ;) Also good to see the owner is at least a member on here :) I quite like it myself, though I'm not really a fan of the pearlescent paint - as awesome as it does look, just not my thing.

Yeah Trozzle - You should've known bud ! GOSH !

SIR. MY f**kING BALLS. YOU ARE BREAKING THEM. LOL

I'd just got up (still asleep really) to take son to work. Wasn't really with it.

34 was warming up so couldn't go fast - as I wanted too :(

Don't do what I do coz not a good example

As per the bolded text.

When do I know that the car is ready to be opened/ warmed? I've been looking at the heat gauge (Bottom right) and waiting for it to go to it's normal spot (Just under halfway) however, I have 3 gauges in the middle. (One is turbz and the other is battery volt.) but the other one (Middle) is oil tempeture(?) - do I go off this to know that the car is warmed up? - it sits on 70 for quite awhile.

Just drive conservatively until the car's at operating temp (temp gauge ~halfway or so), then drive as hard as you want lol.

I'd say once the oil temp is above 50 deg you're fine to drive it however you want really, but that's not a professional opinion :)

Water temp is a terrible gauge to tell if the car is ready to drive hard. If that's all you have keep going easy for a few minutes after it reaches normal temp.

If you have oil pressure, notice how high it is when cold, and how low it is after a long drive. When it comes down from high/cold to low/normal it is ready to hoon.

If you have oil temp, anything over about 60- 70 is ready like trouble said

The important thing is it might take much longer than you'd guess to warm up, esp on a Canberra morning. The stag is not getting anything near warm on my commute.

Dont thrash a cold engine! It is way bad for it!

And don't shut down an engine that isn't at operating temp after a short drive :P if the oil isn't hot enough, the little bit of fuel that slips past the rings etc won't evaporate and in turn will sit in the oil and ruin it.

Cheers guys !

Yeah - I tend tp not thrash the car (if at all) but I don't use my Turbz until maybe 10-15 minutes into the drive and after that I wait until all gauges are lifted from the bottom of the gauge. I do wait 2mins or so (idle) of a morning and have a turbo timer set to 30seconds but will sit with the car running for 30-60 seconds before the 30 sec timer engages. I just thought I'd use the gaugges instead of them looking pretty haha

The middle gauge sits on 70 from cold and I wait until 85'ish? (it won't go any higher).

Should sit on the needle below 70.

When it raises to 70 then it's go time

Should be capable of going over 85 tho ?

Edit: Can drive after a minute or so from cold. Stay off boost till oil is warm enough.

I don't thrash mine, but I don't let it idle too long or baby it either. I don't take it to redline or launch as it's not just the engine that takes time to warm up. I certainly get it on boost (under load) before the oil is 70+ and water temp is at 'normal'. won't hurt them to be driven realistically!

Thanks for that Richard. Very Cool.

Temps? My oil Temp was getting up around 95 on my work commute a few weeks ago... Doesn't get much over 70 now. Ambient Temps affect things more than you think.

I don't sit idling on cold start but I change gear no higher than 3000rpm til over 70 on oil temp. Well, a combo of oil pressure and temp.

Need to hook up my water temp gauge properly for more information. Just can't be stuffed cutting Radiator hose etc... :)

Spotted RS4 or whatever your username is at your place of employment in Fyshwick ;)

Also spotted the person that has the dark blue 300ZX on Gladestone Street about 4pm.

And a silver R33 GTR at Dan's Tuggers. Guy was wearing HI VIZ.

    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.
    • Stop looking at the garage floor, and turn the radio up a bit louder if there's any strange noises...
    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
