I know this might be blasphemous, but has anyone seen or driven the '04 Maxima?

I saw one the other day at the Nissan on Springvale Road in Glen Waverley and it looks like a lot of value for its $40,000 (plus ORC) base model ST-L asking price.

- 3.5 litre 170kW engine (same as the 350Z)

- 17 inch alloy wheels

- Dual zone passenger / driver climate control

- 4 airbags

- Power Everything

Definitely Looks good to me and not too bad looking either, although i'm not too crash hot on the rear (i'm more of a titties man myself!! hahahaha)

:headspin:

Seen 'em, don't really like 'em. Similar to the V35 Skyline. Front is ok, not sure what's going on at the back.... but u are definitely right. They come packed to the brim with stuff and i think for the price they are asking, they would be a really good buy. Being a Nissan, i'm sure you would have no problems or very little, and if u're looking at getting one, from what i've seen and read sounds like a great package.

cheers.

I've always liked the Maxima. For a V6 it's just something different to a two bit commodore, falcon or magna (it was either a max or a liberty anyway). It packs a fair punch so is a definite sleeper.. in fact it was marketed in the states as `a wolf in sheeps clothing'.

In Asia it is sold as The Cefiro / Teana and in the U.S. as the `Infiniti / Maxima' both regions enjoying mass credibility. I blame Nissan marketing (or lack thereof) for it's `old peoples' street credibility (well, that at the 90% of old people that actually make up the purchasing demographic) =P

Just found out that the '04 don't come it manual -- what's up with that!

As far as a mid-range Japanese luxo tourer goes - I like it. Compare to Subaru Libery (nice), Mazda 6 (I like them too) and probably Avalon (why, oh why, not a Chaser) - perhaps Vectra also.

Called Teana in Japan (our older Maximas were Cefiros). Has an AWD option (not here, yet).

Our good buddies at Autech bling it up a little - kinda P. Diddy white suit style.

Even Nissan have a crack at it:

james - i actually saw an early Maxima that had authentic "Cefiro" badging on it, it was really quite cool. Not sure quite how it got past the whole "if sold here can't import it" but i saw it  If i had a camera i would have taken a photo.

I think its a good price - i can see why nissan wouldn't bother bringing out the V35 Skyline. What would it offer that the maxima doesn't? Its got the same engine and similar luxury features. And it would have to sell for $60-$70k here probably.

I think nissan is really starting the evolution in cars that we all want to see

I look forward to nissans/mazda etc new range taking over a large chunk of holden and fords domination on the austalian market once people see how good these cars are compared to the locals..

Isn't the Maxima FWD? That's one reason for the V35. Also, the V35 looks nicer compared to the Maxima imo. They really need to scrap the Maxima and replace it with a low spec Skyline (for cost reasons),

Hey I saw one of those too, over the weekend (at the BMT group dyno day in Melbourne). Turbo charged with a nice exhaust.. took a couple of photos also. I was wondering if anyone from this board owned it actually.

I think it may have bypassed that `can't import coz sold here law' because the Cefiro came with heaps of varying models... FWD, AWD, RWD, 2.0L, 3.0L, turbo, N/A.. etc.. *shrugs*

Pushead: I just saw a Canadian website quote the '04 Max at doing 0-100km/h in 6 seconds (http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/previe...artid=5939&pg=4) but in all honesty I think it is more realistically in the low 7's... Our DETUNED and auto only (not happy jan!) version comes in at about 8.5.

Knore: I hear you bruda..apparently in New Zealand there was an add running for the Maxima marketing it as the answer to the Ford vs. Holden war. Heh

The Teana in Japan is only available in AT or CVT transmissions anyway...

Also, the Teana is actually slightly bigger than the V35 Skyline, so if I'm not mistaken, that could be one of the reasons why Nissan chose the Teana/Maxima over the Skyline... oh, that, and Holden has a secret deal in place preventing any decent RWD Japanese cars to be sold against the Commodore...

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
