Ford USA has repeatedly stated that they're not interested in an export program for the Falcon. The thing would sell gangbusters in the USA (just like the Monaro/Commodore, which shits all over most of their domestics in the handling stakes while still having the same powertrains), and even in the UK I know plenty of Ford fans who need a four door sedan, but don't want a bum-dragging Mondeo, and look wistfully at the XR6T and XR8.

If superceding an engine that's been around for several decades is a sign that its a piece of shit dinosaur, wouldn't that make the RB equally as bad? It's not like they're present in any modern Nissan either.

Why don't you try opening the other eye, and actually seeing the world how it is?

But i am right about it never being a Godzilla, something you conveniently sidetracked around

As for selling gangbusters in the USA.. well thats not hard there poulation is huge so not really a valid argument..because Ford USA, have stated....They are not interested...And they would not sell heaps in england, they are too big and too thirsty.. If they would sell heaps they would be importing them already, so you see, i am seeing the world as it really is because it is not being exported

I know The Fords are quick, I also know people have been sticking huge turbos on taxis for 20 years and running tens, so its not really anything new to me...

The RB is old, true, but The GTR is a thourougbred and always will be...the typhoon to me is still a taxi with a turbo and a few other pretty bits..

And if you have read the thread i did tell him to get the ford....Its a better option...It is NOT a better car.....

hmm, the ford is just as much a piece of motorsport history as the skyline is...

Dont forget ford have their racing pedigree too as you can see in almost every racing category.

Really what has the typhoon won, the hearts of a few aussies, a couple of drag races maybe...Truth is, most of the rest of the world have never heard of it!!

Ford won Le-mans 3 times with the GT40, some 40 years ago, they have been riding that pony ever since..

Nissan conquered the world with the GTR and is continuing to do so 20 years later

what head issues ? i have never heard of anyone having an issue, ever with the stock head. only valve springs which are a drop in replacement. the early 4 speed auto on the ba were crap, even after being rebuilt. but the zf 6spd is pretty bulletproof upto around 400rwk. heres a dyno sheet from an fg f6, stock cams but with headwork and valve springs.

Yeah valve springs is what i meant by that, not a big issue but an issue none the less...

Agreed although my old non-turbo s13 was slow as hell it was still fun to push it through the corners in a way that no 1.7t falcon could ever do even after suspension work.

I'd say looks like a very stupid setup they have there i'd prefer the stock motor with 1/3 of the power but about 30x the driveablility and fun when it comes to street use

like i said, its a drag/dyno car. i was merely showing what the "basically" stock head can achieve. no drag/dyno cars

are street friendly. and you'd be wanting much more than the stock 200kw in a falcon, they are heavy.

After looking at some R33 GT-R's I have become very fond of them...There are some really nice clean ones around.

Oh and at the shopping centre today I bought one ticket to go in to the draw to win a FPV Boss Sedan (no idea what it was - never looked into the Boss range). Hopefully that one lucky ticket is a winner!

Thanks again for all your input fellas.

Dont know what 300Rwkw GTT u been in, But I've been in a few that would blitz Many $80k+ 300kw 8's, Investing in a good differential, suspension and Tyres Helps tho.

If I was able to spend 15-20K on my one. It would be an absolute weapon.

Mate i had 275rwkw R33 for years and believe me in gear roll-ons is sensational, but burning away from traffic lights wasnt fun as it would just tear up the rubber. Tein suspension and stiff rear end isnt ideal for traction, semi comp rubber would be your only answer. Thats why drag cars have soft suspension, hence why a F6 would have a lot better traction.

See i say get a ford, now you want a GTR....proves no-one listens to me...lol

You wont regret it..

The Boss...says it all really...what does typhoon say....TYP ...HOON.... Its just a trouble maker

And Robo

Im sure he is buying it because he wants a nice car all round. NOT because he wants to race people at the lights , right :P

Boss motor more like POS

You'd be better off buying an EA and using the other 29k putting a huffer, suspension etc on it, keep the stocko rims on and you'd be guaranteed neve r to get harassed! (And I have seen this done before lol, much suprises were had on bogans!)

V8 supercars is what I was referring to. Sure, its not the typhoon, but then the skyline that raced in motorsport was neither GTT nor GTR spec. Which is why I said the ford is just as much racing history as the skyline (GTT) is.

Also have a look at nascar - ford are heavily involved in that too. A quick look at www.fordracing.com shows some of the racing categories ford are into.

btw I'm no ford fan but I still think a bit more truth and balance on this forum never goes astray. :)

ford cosworth kind of says it all about ford's racing history. and before anyone says "but that's not actually ford", well nismo isn't exactly nissan either.

and i love all the banter about how a gtr is better, etc, well a gtr also cost a hell of a lot more when it was new. like when the r32 beat the commodores and sierras at bathurst when it was still group A. gee i wonder why? maybe it was because nissan engineers made a road car the was specifically designed to win group A racing rather than a car designed to sell in the actual market. they were just lucky that it actually did. also the r32 GTR was over twice the price of the most expensive commodore at the time. so you would assume that it would be a better car.

as for the people who have raced falcons with flashtunes etc, what boost was teh car running? there are people out there running stock boost with a flashtune and there are others running much higher boost. also some people are running generic tunes simply to have the boost raised. i know a guy who got a generic tuned flashtune to raise the boost to 9 and 12psi for his BA xr6t. just by plugging in the flashtune and raising the boost to 12psi, without even getting a proper tune on it, he gained just over 50hp. everything else on the car is stock.

the other thing you have to remember when comparing it to other cars is not how much it's selling for second hand but how much it cost new. sure you could say that a 350 is a better car, etc, but how much more does it cost new? a new xr6t goes for around 50k and a 350 or 370 goes for around 75k. and considering that the base build qaulity of the falcon is still based off a car that sells for the mid $30,000 mark, what do you expect. you are comparing an optioned up cheap car with a much more expensive car, so of course the build quality will be better on the more expensive car.

someone said above that some people need to open the other eye to see the whole picture. i think some people need to open both eyes to see the whole picture.

Well marc depreciation IS important in that it reflects the quality and popularity of a car down the track most of the time. Especially if old mate buys the F6 then decides a year or so later that he'd rather have the gt-r and loses say 30k on it.

About the only cars I can think of which are well made, cheap and reasonably popular are MZ20 Soarers.

depreciation has little to do with quality and more to do with quantity. the more people who buy them, the moe people sell them and this drives the price down. and since a lot of falcons, etc are used as government and business cars under lease arangements then sold off after a year o 2, that drops the price quickly. and it isn't just the aussie cars that have it happen. happens to a lot of japanese and european stuff too. nissan themselves caused a massive drop in the N15 pulsar back in the late 90's when the RRP of the vehicle dropped by about $6000 in 1 year, which was about 20% of the value of the car at the time.

this is the exact reason why a tidy r33 gts-t often goes for less money than an average r32 gts-t. cause there are a hell of a lot more r33's for sale than there are r32's cause there are a hell of a lot more of them in the country.

here's a few stats from an article from 2009 (about cars from 2007)

2007 LARGE CARS (retained value):

THE WORST:

1. Ford Falcon BF — 47.9%

2. Mitsubishi 380 — 47.9%

3. Holden Commodore VZ — 48%

THE BEST:

1. Ford FPV GT Cobra — 92.2%

2. Mercedes E-Class — 72.9%

2007 MEDIUM CARS (retained value):

THE WORST:

1. Saab 9-3 sedan — 56.4%

2. Jaguar X-Type V6 — 56.4%

THE BEST:

1. Mercedes C-Class diesel — 80.8%

2. Ford Mondeo LX — 76.7%

2007 SMALL CARS (retained value):

THE WORST:

1. Alfa Romeo 147 GTA — 58.9%

THE BEST:

1. Honda Civic Hybrid — 87.6%

2007 LIGHT CARS (retained value):

THE WORST:

1. Proton Satria — 59.5%

THE BEST:

1. Mazda2 — 92.1%

2007 SPORTS CARS (retained value):

THE WORST:

1. Citroen C4 VTS — 51.9%

THE BEST:

1. Ferrari Scaglietti — 101.9%

they also left out the F250 and F350 which gained value at 112% and 122%, since they are out of production now. but note how poorly the jag and alfa held their value. sure they aren't the best models, but still says that it isn't just fords and holdens that lose value

while i have never really liked and doubt i ever really will like the look of 33's the series 2/3 GTR 33's do look pretty damn nice and would drive nicely too guess it all depends if you win that FPV Boss now

True but its hard to feel sexy driving a stock old EA...and with all those hot uni girls to impress...mate get the ford, any ford , preferably black or red, or that electric blue colour....and fill it with hot uni girls, then take photos, preferably with boobies..then post them here for the boys..... :)

Or ...Theres a nice evo7 for sale in the for sale section for 24k...

I have the R32 to impress women with, and the VN before it haha ;p

Marc, if you looked at sales figures you will see that quantity is not an important factor for depreciation as much - Commodore regularly outsells Falcon, but there is always a noticable depreciation gap between the two.

For an outsider who drives the other car (xr6t) this thread is pretty funny, especially since the xr6 forums have a similar thread.

A true enthusiast should be able to appreciate what both bring to the table, and others have said they are very different things. I personally wouldnt bother with a 34 gtt, if i was buying a skyline it would be a gtr or nothing.

- the f6/xr6t is a comfy car that with a small investment can put down some excellent 1/4 mile times while still being very driveable and the sort of car you can drive anywhere without freaking out that it'll be stolen or getting pulled over and defected every time you pass an rbt. Insurance is suprisingly good as well - around 1/3rd of what i could have insured an s15 for. I got my bf2 around 2 years old and about 40k on it for under 25k. Bang for buck they are a hard car to beat for a daily with enough go to keep most people happy especially when modded.

- The gtr handles better, has the reputation and you'll get more 'respect' for it but for the same amount of cash you're buying a much older car. Great for a weekender/track warrior IMO but not something you would necessarily want to subject to daily use especially if you managed to find yourself a good example.

Just read this in the local rag...

The new FG FPV F6 will join the bathurst showroom enduro in febuary in Class A.. WHY

But apparently they are having trouble finding a driver..

They believe the car will break the BMW, EVO domination of the last 3 years..

"thats why we are entering this car,it can win outright"

That is if they can find a driver...lol....

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
