i've had it happen to me heaps of times, not asked to drag, but this dick in his 350z was reving then took off from the lights, and was checking my in the side mirror, lets just say got to the entry ramp of the freeway i showed him what overdrive in a turbo auto goes like. (from rolling 20kms then light turned green) got to 100, i could then see him stuck behind haha.

but yeah every p plater in there holdens and fords, i even get the odd honda.

i only showed that 350z cause he looked really smug and had a hot missus  had to show her his car is only a penis extension.

I had someone do it to me the other day at some lights were its a 110kp/h zone, i said no, he nails it, i took off a little bit quick to about 90 then slowed it up a bit and he kept going hard and the car behind me was a undercover cop car. I honestly had no idea it was there

had a p plater in a BA falcon with an exhaust try and drag me from the lights in an 80kph zone.my missus (who was 8 months pregnant) says dont do anything stupid,i tell her i wouldnt bother racing kids meanwhile the school girls he had in the back were flipping me some gang-signs out the window

light goes green,he missed it,was to busy looking to see if id race him,he f**ken tromps it and the most hideous noise i have ever, ever heard comes bellowing out his exhaust.

the funniest thing about this encounter was that i took off in drive (and sensibly)after all the noise and gang-signs coming from his car he was about half a car length in front of me going as hard as his peice of shit could

i almost crashed the car i was in histericks the whole way home!

you see this kind of thing every day in adelaide. Mostly commodore drivers - I dont know what it is holden do to their customers or maybe its just that they attract a certain type of person?

They all think they have the fastest car on the road (except that 999999999999 million other people drive exactly the same car as them). oh and the big HOLDEN sticker across the back window really helps to identify the car that little bit better...

tis annoying - a bit like mozzies or flies - and about just as common.

you know what annoys me more that the stupid car brand stickers on the windscreen? Chevy badges on commodores, i mean sure the V8 motor is based on a chev but are now made in south America for christ sake, but the cars are pretty much all Aussie otherwise F***ing bogans man i don't get it.

lol, ive had a couple of classic runs (private roads ;) ) in my stagea when it was in its old trim running low 11 seconds on street tyres with the dogbox, etc (years ago). One was on the way to the photoshoot with the HPI magazine photographer and pulled up along side a vy clubsport with 3 young blokes in it. They had all there windows down and the stage had big lumpy cams so it sounded not standard, and this back seat passenger yellow out to me.. "it looks fast" in a sarcastic tone lol. I just smiled casually lol

The lights went green and he launched like a mad man, i didnt because i wasnt sure if he was gonna run, so my laggy little 2.7L took abit to get on boost, but by middle of second gear i blew past them like they were standing still and my open gate screaming they looked a little suprised too.

So i slowed down after being about 10+ car lengths ahead and they do the flat out flyby crap. I just cruised along till next set of lights are here they were sitting there again and i just pulled up with a big grin. The same guy in the back seat said "i think u need a parachute on that thing" and they said nothing else.

Also had a run with a sports bike and actually beat him and he rode next to me after i backed off and flipped his visor up and said "wtf is in that thing" and i just said a rb26 haha, he gave me thumbs up and went on his way.

Those were fun times pity the cars nothing like that anymore  and new laws means i wouldnt even waste my time or risk it. Im building a track car now to get all that hoon behaviour out in a proper environment.

Yeah, I get the occasional falcodore wanting a run off the lights. Had one a few months back, I gave it a bit of a squirt to the speed limit (60kph), the other guy ended up going over 100kph straight past a highway patrol car, needless to say he was pulled over pretty quickly. I was laughing pretty hard as I drove past them, I gotta say.

in all honesty - the worst culprits for me are other fellow skyline drivers

but its not all "lets drag ya pussy!"

just the old take off slow and you can hear them holding first and not changing gears at the typical slowmoving 20kph shift point - their revs just keep building

then i stab it and kick it back so it spools and revs and they plant it!

and i let it change back to the usual auto functions and just keep rolling

they go like a bat out of hell till they get to about 3 car lengths in front before they realise i bluffed.

when i drive the datto i have to constantly rev the thing and blip the throttle to keep it from overfueling

its not intentionally LOOK AT ME, its just the old L4 is over carbed and over cammed - then the hoon behaviour comes out

every p plater in their vl's and vn's with chopped springs wants to show me how they drift an open wheeler in peakhour... ;)

LOL - interesting thread! since I dont drive the Stagea daily I dont really know what its like, but tell you what used to get SH!TLOADS of " offers " in my NA n14 pulsar... was classic beating a 6cyl falcon/commo off the line, thats even before I converted it to turbo! oh and for some reason the S15 seems to get people angry. Lots of d1ckheaads want a go in that , but oddly enough only when my partners driving it??? ( the tint is so dark you cant really see much )

I kinda miss it to be honest. Always nice handing someone their ass on a plate when they dont expect it.

Though i think as soon as they cotton on its a turbo most people dont bother ( NA falcon ./ commies )

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
