I got a set of gtr doors at home, 32kg, they still have most of the bits inside. minus the outer interior skins/trims

you could easily get them down to 20 something by removing motors and adding winders or something and cutting a bit

you cant just say that you can do that. im not trying to sound like a prick but ive done all the cutting and shutting that was worth while and removed the window glass and motors and it doesnt add up to 12kg. i weighted it every step of the way and if i had a search im sure i could find the paper work for it and it goes no where near 12kg.

im all for people having a go at trying it but its like me saying cut 3 inches off each end of the chassis and youll save 100kg. ive never done it so i dont say it can be done especially when some one is asking for facts and figures from what people have had proven results from.

the proven results were written in the post above yours.

regardless of that it sounds like you have the light weight doors so some one should buy them.

im not trying to be a natzi i just get anoyed when people say it can be done because they heard from a friend of a friend that read it on the internet which was probably wrong to start with. i very rarely enter into topics like this unless ive done it because i had spreading hear say.

ok one more question...

what years did the early doors end and the heavy doors start??

i just saw some 92' doors and found out they are the heavy f%^kers.

so what...light - 89-91 and heavy - 92-93??

Yew, i wasnt saying 20kg on the nose. but 20 something.. you'd be spending a bit on lexan and grinder discs.. (also i wasnt sure if i checked if they were side intrusion jobs too)

short answer: yes it can be done

watch some video-option where they do the SUPER-LAPS they have some impressive figures for their track r32

remove all your glass windows and replace with Lexen/Perspects

remove anything that isn't needed (air con, cd player + speakers, redo wiring harness, washer bottles), cut up the doors and any other panels which will not affect the strength/stiffness of the car.

also not sure if you can/allowed use aluminum parts (e.g from gtr guards and bonnet), fiberglass or carbon seats etc

just to clear up some stuff about the doors.

yes the early model R32 (both GTR and GTST) do not have side intrusion bars in them from the factory. HOWEVER most of the cars that have been imported would have had the intrusion bars fitted during compliance (which them makes them just as heavy give or take than the late model doors).

BUT, early model doors with aftermarket intrusion bars fitted CAN have the bars removed (they are usually riveted and welded in place).

the early doors are 89,90 and part of 91. late model intrusion bar doors start during 91 and of course run to 94.

the late model doors it's nearly impossible to remove the intrusion bar from. it's not really a bar at all. more of a giant plate of steel. and it's heavy as fark.

the only option really is importing a set of early model doors from japan (so you can be sure they haven't had intrusion bars added). i'd say about 80% of the early model cars in aus were complied properly and have had the aftermarket intrusion bars added to them.

to sum up:

if you have late model doors: forget about removing the intrusion bars.

if you have early model doors check if you have or don't have aftermarket bars in there. if you do have them they 'can' be removed but it's still not necessarily easy depending on which bar kit was used, and how they were installed.

you also need to consider the safety aspect. the intrusion bars were introduced for a reason. and they were retrofitted during compliance for a reason too. it's to stop you from getting turned into a vegetable if you are unfortunate enough to get t-boned. if you have an extensive cage that has side impact protection then it's not such a concern, but if you have no cage, or a basic cage without proper side intrusion protection then I personally would leave the bars where they are.

my 32 is a 89 model. it was registered in qld. has no intrusion bars in the doors. partly why i ran the cross brace on the driver side of the cage. I have seen some glass doors floating around, but the doors are light once you pull everything out of them.

there is considerable weight difference in the alluminium bonnet. it is a must.

remove all the bumper bar supports etc.

i removd the entire parcel tray and sheeted it with 0.9mm alluminium. same with door trims. no roof lining, glove box, dash cluster, nothing.

no power steer, no intercoolers, no wastegates, no turbos, no pipework, nothing.

no cast iron engine block lol......you get the picture.

Real race cars??? didnt you fit a commodore engine???

But also on a serious note the car has been built so it can be switched to circuit at any time

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?

    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
