I know this seems like a pretty simple question but I am after 3.5" stainless pipe with a sidewall less than 1.6mm, I have rung around a number of exhaust shops and they all seem to say 1.6mm is all they can get and all they use, and the steel suppliers I have rung don't carry pipe of that diameter to begin with. After something with a bit thinner wall to help save some weight and hopefully it will give me a bit of a raspier note as well similar to using titanium....

you *might* find straight stainless in less than 1.6mm wall, but dont expect to find mandrel bends under 1.6.. i've only been able to get a hold of 1.6 and as you'd know you can get this from pretty much anywhere

You could probably order in 0.9mm but from what I have found, anything not on the shelf costs twice as much. It would ding very easily if you hit a speed hump too. 1.6 is the go, unless you can afford Ti.

How do you plan to bend? Are you going to go the lobster? :ninja:

I'm halfway through making a custom dump for a gt35 with 3.5 inch lobster bent pipe into twin 3 inch for a customer with a big power 2J.

Their 3 inch and up only seems to come in 20g.

Your other option is to get some 1mm sheet cut and rolled, giving you the option of oval tube for clearance. Personally I would just go for 1.6mm as anything thinner will crush too easily.

There would be a lot more weight in a muffler which could be saved by making an alloy body version.

Why not? I understand ti doesn't transfer heat as well as s/s but I would have thought the stable temp it sits at when driving wouldn't have been much different?

Yeh i've been having a crack at doing some rolling at work, isn't as easy as it looks, took a while to get to the point where I could roll lengths the same. I'm off work for 9 weeks now so won't be getting this done for a while.

On a side note does anyone know where I can get a 'Y' piece that goes from one 3.5" to 2x2.5"?

Perfectly clean, with the 3.5 inch the vice starts to deform the pipe while holding it which can lead to a slight gap but otherwise no problem. You end up with a nice knife edge inside the Y pipe.

got a lil trick for you... get some 3inch pipe... not tube pipe. whatever scheduele... just make sure the inside diameter is 3inch... only need maybe 100mm

then cut a slit ALLL the way through it. so not "around it"(like the brobo does) but down the side... and then cut 5mm of one side. i know im over complicating it lol. but what i mean is.. just cut 5mm of the circumference

then slide this over your 3inch tube. put it in the vice. tighten up.. and nothing gets deformed :woot:

ill pm this to you incase you dont go back on to this thread

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
