145 000 Kms On R34 Gt-t - Too Much?

hey guys,

im looking at buying a R34 GTT manual coupe. There arent many for sale at the moment in perth. One has caught my eye, it seems to be in great condition, the only thing putting me off is that it has 145 000 kms on the clock - i see dealers importing them with 60 - 100 000's but the cost is about 3k more.

Is this to much? i intend to enter some track days etc in the car - the guy said compression test revealed 160 psi on all cylinders, is this a good result or just average?

im also a bit worried about re sale, will be hard to move with 180 + kms on it.

see how it drives - get a mechanic you trust to look it over

I wouldnt be surprised seeing it preform much better than alot with lower km's considering how many are thrashed and treated like shit..

145,000 isnt that much.. They are mostly fiddled with when coming from japan anyways.. Just replace the instrument cluster and k's change.. (not saying do this as its stupid and illegal).. so the k's its reading arent nessarily correct.. Just check condition of the car.. if steering wheel isnt worn out.. carpet on drivers side, pedals, etc.. just the normal stuff.. then should be ok..

In terms of the motor.. Don't beleive the seller based on something he/she said.. Don't forget, they are trying to sell the car.. If you're really serious I would have the car checked by a mechanic and have your own compression test done.. To have the cylinders all running on 160 exactly would be a miracle.. If you find something different to what the seller is saying just beware..

and probably 90% of them have had the cluster changed to one with lower kms

I'm at 135,000 and the car is sweet My last one saw 160,000kms and all that needed was the suspenion to be reconditioned.

this thread amuses me for the fact that people see over about 120,000kms on an import as getting old, where as a commodore or falcon isn't considered getting old until it has over 200,000kms.

I bought one of my R32 GTRs with 177,000 on the clock and it has been faultless in 7 months of driving. Engine is running 18 psi and 290 kw at the rears and is sweet. Tuner did a compression test and said all very close to 165. Said it' one of the best he's seen. Chances are the klms are legit, rather than the 96klms you so regularly see. In your case why would they wind back to 145? Why not back to the magic 9_klms. Go on condition and have it checked. IMHO it will affect resale. It worries you, so it will worry others. Unfair but true.

The only reason Steve, that you've posted up in here is because you have your suspicions and you either need to be reassured &/or have those suspicions supported.

I'd have those compression test results independently done. You get a mechanic who knows his Skylines to check it over thoroughly for you, whilst you have your own list to tick off other things. And if you're still in doubt, compare it with another GT-T perhaps with lower Kms. Most SAUers in the F/S section would prefer to sell their car here if their wheels are in good shape and there's little/nothing to hide. If an SAUer knew that there are problems with his car and wanted to offload it, he'd probably use CarSales etc.

I was in the same posi not too long ago, searched for ever and almost gave up as I couldn't find the GTR in the condition I wanted. I saw so many of them, by chance inspected one which was spectacular, better than any I'd seen, had over 150K on it. Tested perfectly, every garage I take it to tells me how good and solid this car is. So I'd say.......... go by the condition of the car absolutely. I had a GTR 6 years ago which had 76K on the dial, water pump died, alternator played up, thrust bearing got squeely and needed to be replaced. etc.. 76K..... right.

Pleased as punch now. Tightest GTR I've driven.
