After reading right through GT's and Joey's E85 threads i have become inspired to make something more adaptable to everyday streeters wanting to run this Flex Fuel stuff caltex is bringing out.

I'm getting quite keen on this caltex bringing Flex Fuel to the ACT :)

so much infact that I'm looking at doing a CarPc type thing so i can change fuel Maps from the sterio/GPS/Touchscreen...

Here is a one-click program i just wrote to change maps on the fly...

This program automatically opens up NIStune -> Opens the correct map in NIStune -> connects to the consult -> Updates the Map and Burns it to the ECU -> Then returns to the desktop... All in about 5 seconds :)

Obviously you need to have the maps pre-tuned for each blend

I think this is a pretty good option for us running NIStune to take the benifets of Pump Exx fuel...

for those that don't want to have a laptop in the car the whole time that is ;)

I also have plans to investigate the Ethanol sensors and make an auto adjusting map.

This won't be in real time (like the flex fuel cars) but after you fill up run the program and it'll get the Ethanol content and change the map to suit the current blend in the tank...

But one step at a time!

So if anyone can see any major flaws in my plan please speak up, as I'm keen to get something like this availiable for everyday streeters wanting to run Flex Fuel

Cheers

I have that already with the dip switches on the unit but I can only switch in one fuel and one timing map. This car pc idea is a lot more practical than lugging a laptop around in the boot like most of us do.

Fair enough, Not sure how you would get around the panel that asks "do you want to communicate with the blah blah blah, prob just as easy to load the EMU software onto thew car pc and open it at the servo and load up the map you want and drive away.

this is a great idea, hopefully something can be made easily so that i could run e85 for track days etc and PULP 98 when just getting around town.

i've been wanting to run e85 but the worst part in SA is that its only available from one servo.

so if i wanted to take my car for a long drive away from the servo i would have to plan ahead and make sure i could get there and back on one tank.

it'd be handy if i could just switch to a different tune and run e85 only when i want to really make some great power

Good to see some interest in it :)

I'll be building my CarPc up over the next month or so and the fuel isn't avaliable untill somewhere near october, so untill then i won't be able to work out all the bugs and teething problems that'll come with it no doubt...

Also those people running a CarPc, whats it like with booting up times and stuff?

I'll be running mine as my sterio so i ain't gonna want to wait 5mins till it starts playing.

If anybody has gotten around this with another battery and a relay setup so that the computer never turns off let me know.

Also for the EMU stuff, if it runs off windows then it's possible to write a program to automatically connect and change maps.

That's all this program does... just takes out the human interaction and presses the correct buttons in nistune on its own... Basically...

So any automation in windows is possible, as long as the software to talk to the EMU is installed

Nothing special as far as windows install goes, haven't leaned the installation out at all.

Boots up in about 30 secs.

If you get a decent PSU and wire it up properly, the PC will commence booting as soon as the the key gets to the ACC position and won't reboot while cranking.

I also use mine for music but I cbf wiring the PC to an amp so just run RCA out from the front of my CarPC case to the Aux jack on my deck.

  • 2 months later...

Update.

Got my CarPc up and running. with the nistune software on it.

I also now have a nice PULP98 map and an e70 map.

Over the next few weeks when I have time I'll be finishing off the programming and scripting to get the "one button fuel map change" going.

I will make up a "Mid Map" where i use mostly the PULP98 timing map, but adjust the fuel to suit a 50-50ish mix for those pesky occasions where you're at the coast with half a tank of fuel and not enough to get home and no one sells the good stuff...

Also looking at doing a one button "lean by 1 AFR" and "richen by 1 AFR"

Failing somehow integrating the ehtanol content sensor into NIStune, i reckon this'll be about the best way to make the most out of the e-flex and e85!

I'll get some pics up soon

Wait till you hear porn through the stereo.. strangely seems to have some serious bass to it :P

P.S. good work on the NIStune front, keen to see results :D

Love it, I've had my customers switch images via hardware but it relies on the driver to have some idea rather than be asked. NICE WORK!!

Has Matt added this code to his latest beta?

Nar mate. I'm working on this as a stand alone from NIStune.

Although i would like to work with matt, i love what he's doing with these NIStunes, this is more of a script than more software. The script/stand alone program will open up nistune and automatically use nistune's ability to change the maps in the car.

you have to have the maps ready avaliable on the pc and it'll just grab which ever one you ask it to and chuck it in the ecu, then quit and get back to your porn... lol

I'd like to see how the ethanol sensors will work with a ViPEC ECU...

Otherwise, good work Pat. Keep it up!

Fine, the link G4's have no issue so its carbon copy wont have an issue.

Not enough room on the nistune boards to run multiple maps, wish there was as we do a fair bit of nitrous and e85 (2-3 a week).

Matt and peter explained exactly why not a few years back but i forgot...

    • Had another look at the car and I noticed the fuel pump isn't priming on ignition. I'd taken out the pump from the boot to siphon out the old fuel, so maybe I've knocked something loose or broken a wire putting things back together. Will go back with a multimeter and try to work out what's stuffed. Kinda hoping it's the pump itself thats gone so I can upgrade it
    • Yeah agreed, you can't assume that shop are they only people who ever had to work on it. It was just a guess on the mods based on how things were done back then. You can check the Air Flow Meters by the part number on their tags, they are likely either Z32 or Nismo ones (both read about the same but the Z32 one is a little larger while nismo is stock size but supports the higher airflow like a Z32). And yes, all that would get you to 450hp / 340kw To tell what is happening with the turbos, you want a photo of the tag on the core, that will say what it was made out of  (they can retain the front and rear covers to make the plumbing easier)
    • I'm selling my personal race car. 1992 BNR32 Skyline GT-R About eight years ago the engine developed the dreaded low oil pressure problem. I removed it and found the issue. However shortly after I moved half way across the country, moved my work shop, bought a house, got married, then moved my shop again to it's permanent location for the time being. in turn I do not have the time to race this car as it should be. In turn the engine I built for this car will end up in my street car and this car I hope finds a home with someone who can use it to it's full potential. The roll bar was built by Jason Noren Fabricaiton in Pomona California to SCCA and NASA Specs. The car used to compete in redline time attack and global time attack enthusiast class. It also has a fire suppression system.  The car is with me at my workshop in Kyle Texas, USA. Shipping it is no problem, I can personally deliver the car to the port of either Houston or Los Angeles. Any other port depending on where it is may require transport but we can always work that out.   The chassis itself is rust free, rear quarters and under fenders are free of any rust so it's a very solid foundation for anyone who wishes to move forward with it. As posted and at the asking price of $20,000 USD the car includes all of the following;   All OEM Body panels, front fenders, rear bumpers etc.  OEM Nissan Projector headlamps (Pictured N1 lamps were removed) OEM Nismo Side Skirts / Extensions OEM Rear Spats  Front & Rear Subframes are installed car is full roller Rear Subframe has Cusco Camber Arms, Whiteline HICAS Elimination Front Subframe has Whiteline tension rods and whiteline Sway bars w/ endlinks.  Buddy Club N1 Coilovers All chassis wiring and engine wiring is in tact. Attessa System is fully in tact and was functional before engine removal.  BCNR33 GT-R Brembo Brakes F+R with Endless MX72 Plus Pads, DBA Rotors & Stainless Steel Brake lines Billion Racing Radiator Billion Radiator Hoses Fluidyne Engine Oil Cooler Accusump System (trunk Mounted) 5 Speed Transmission w/ Transfer Case F+R Prop-shafts Rear Differential With rear Axles.  Nismo Gauge Cluster Nismo Clutch + Flywheel   Essentially what is needed to make this car running and driving again is as follows: A working Engine, an ECU, and time to put it together. The price posted is or best offer as I am willing to remove some components to accommodate price to a certain extent. If any serious buyer wants full detailed pictures, videos, or any questions I'll be happy to answer them. I believe this car is priced to move quickly considering it's a rust free and very straight chassis but always open to fair negotiation.  I can be contacted via phone or email. • So...to my (and my mechanics doing the swap) surprise...the oil pan from NEO engine does not fit 100% and needs to by modified like this: It is not a huge problem but in the future i want a "proper" oil pan. So question is...what different oil pan can i get to fit without any problems and modification? Thanks!
    • Some more info I found.  These are the last entries Yoshikiyo Fujii made on his blog before he passed away in 2009: http://blog.livedoor.jp/fujii_dynamics/ And finally this is where the workshop was situated:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/HhTPtHzt3WVcBTiEA
