replace the catch tank with the bigger cusco one that sits in front of your battery. you still have a standard sized battery so it'll fit there no problem. also consider installing some improved cam cover baffles it will help stop so much oil making it to the can. the mines ones are excellent. plenty of copies available now but I like to do the right thing and buy the originals, they are not silly money.

here's a pic of the catch tank I mean in one of my cars. it's the 'racing version' and from memory is 3 litre size and fits very nicely. sorry it's not the best pic as you can't see the whole can. it also runs much bigger tubing than the small one you have.

just a quick question about your pic BB, is that gtr in the pic still running A/c? or has it been removed? im just looking at the oil cooler. you have so much room there.... my car is so tight i cant fit my cooler anywhere but down in the front bar... so shit

yeah it's still running AC and still functioning too.

you can see the AC core is the black core you can see either side of the oil cooler. the radiator is a sard radiator and is unpainted. the intercooler is a trust 3 layer core and is in front. you can see in the pic the radiator is mounted behind the radiator support, none of it protrudes under the support. the air con core is what is mounted under the radiator support and up against the radiator.

to be honest I much prefer to mount the core in the passenger side 'brake' duct on R32's. you can use a smaller core and with some good ducting and an exit path for the air cut into the plastic wheel well liner they work very well. my other 32 is like that. this one already had the oil cooler fitted and I think that core is too big to stuff into the area where I would normally put them. it seems to work ok though, but in the guard is better.

PS. what exactly is getting in the way? you're welcome to come and check out the set-up if you want. some stuff has been moved around a bit to make room etc. like the power steering bottle etc. check out where it sits. car also has no abs which makes a bit of room (not utilised yet but will be).

yea my car runs no abs (nismo edition), there just dosnt seam to be any room there, ive got a 52mm alloy radiator, factory cooler. My oil cooler is in the front passenger brake duct like you have said. and i have a slot cut in the wheel well, with mesh covering it so rocks cant smash my cooler. ive mounted it in there took me ages to make up brackets and things, it just looks my efficent, where yours is in that pic. my car runs quite hot compared to My mates 32R, his got no Ac but and his cooler is mounted where yours is, his also got a factory radiator.

Ive got a Nismo Thermostat, 52mm alloy radiator, oil cooler..... but cant quite keep it as cool as his, in saying that its not geting Hot Hot, temps sit around 80deg on a warm night, and get to 95 when into it. i also dont have a shoud on my radiator so i think that is whats making it run hotter. Im in the middle, of fibreglass one, alil bit of sanding tomoro and she'll be ready to paint, ill see if that fix's it. ive got a good feeling it will.

what type of radiator are you running? if it's a china one and you still have your stockie try switching back to the stock one with stock shroud and see how that goes. I've seen enough GTRs now go backwards cooling wise after fitting chinese radiators. the standard radiator providing it's not got the worlds biggest intercooler in front of it works very well.

I got no idea what brand the radiator, it came with the car when i brought it, im guessing its a china casue theres no jap brand lil plarks on it anywhere. i wish i did have the stock, i would deff put it back in.

the cooler is a trust i think 7 row, it fits a lil sideways but basicly right in front of the passenger side vent and the air either has to go through it or it will just hit the intercooler pipe work. but theres nothing channeling it out to the rear exit, thats a very good point, mite make somthing up, so once the airs gose through the cooler it gets shown the best way out without swirling around and shit.

and yeap still got the stocker fan in place. ill finsh sanding my custom radiator shoud today and fit it up, see if it makes a diffrence.

i also had a look in my bay yesty, to see what was in the place where your cooler is on your.... my A/C condenser is there and about 4 other small black alloy pipes that run from the condenser to the a/c core.... they must have removed all that stuff for your car and re positioned it, cause theres noway you could fit anything there with mine, ill post a pic if you like.

yeah that stuff can be fairly easily relocated a bit.

definitely do a little duct for your core. I'll see if I can find you a photo of mine with the bumper off. it's very simple but works amazingly well. air will always follow the path of least resistance so without some ducting around the core air will just hit it like a brick wall and then flow mostly around the sides of it, not through it like we want it to. it will still work but it works many times better with the air actually flowing through the core not just over it.

consider something like this for the intercooler opening too. means you can get away with a smaller (or even standard intercooler) on the track as it's efficiencey improves a lot.

actually you can see part of the oil cooler duct here in this very old pic of my car. on the passenger side. also the middle 'slat' is removed to allow more air in there. it channels the air through the core nicely.

You can see how much smaller this core is than the other one but I'd say it works just as well if not better. the ducting is so important.

I would also consider buying a used standard radiator and shroud and put that on. I bet it performs better than the current china radiator and no shroud combo. and just wait till you pick up a china radiator and compare the weight to a standard one!! china radiator must be about 4 or 5kg. standard one I'd say less than 2kg. and that's empty. obviously the bigger volume of the china ones means more coolant and even more weight. and in my experience they do a worse job than standard of cooling.

It's a cheap experiment and takes only 10mins to change a radiator. so I would definitely give it a go.

Small update, slowly working towards fixing the over oiling issues.

New oil catch can is done, holds a lightweight odyssey battery which is new also.

The can has a sight glass on the side and a small tap on the bottom to drain the oil (which we'll eventually remove the tap and run a return feed straight to the sump so it will just gravity drain.

We're not quite at the removing the engine stage yet so we can't access the sump to weld return oil feeds from the catch can and the breather plug on the back of the block.

We may just tap into the oil feed return line from the turbo to self drain the oil catch can for now.

In the pipeline is

- Cam baffles

- Oil restrictors

intercooler shroud. basically seals off the gap between the intercooler opening in the bumper and the intercooler. helps force air through the core instead of onto and around the edges. good mod, definitely improves the efficiency of the thing.

I bought a few in japan a couple of years ago. I may still have one or two in my garage. no idea who made them though. but they were nice enough and work well.

you can also DIY one with some bits of thin sheet alloy if on a budget. seen it done many times and quite effective but does look a bit 'race spec'....

    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.

    • They are in fact just nozzles. They are there only to produce a spray pattern and limit flow. The injector itself is what I use to control flow to the 7x nozzles. My old system had no injector and only PWM the pump. This lead to a lot of inconsistencies, and poor atomization at low pressure when the pump was ramping up.
