Joe- The poor girl is getting a massively raw deal, but I suppose it's catch ten for her.

Some of them are quite dodgy indeed.

What's the place you own/work for??? Is the food any good

Worp3d- It wasn't THAT sort of place, it was a restaurant not a strip club or anything. Anyway that is just really degrading to chicks, stuff that there is much better ways of making money.

Lol, i'm paid 15/hr + tips.

so i take about 80/shift

I know many, many, many chef's (i would imagine, around 200 for every 1 you have ever met) and i have never EVER heard of a non head chef earning 80k! even as a cook in a hospital, (i say cook because those places never hire chef's as monkeys can do the work) you will never see 80k unless you are in some for of administrative role.

and 52k after tax for an apprentice... thats possible... iiiiif you work around 100hours per week...

i actually know 1 or 2 people who have done that, but it's a very very very small percentage of the industry, and it's not the kind of job you can do for very long... it's not like 100 hours sitting in an office (which would still suck massively) it's 100 hours of serious hard physical labour. i mean how long do you think you manage 9am - midnight for, when it's 7 days a week?

you really do not know anything about the subject, or even the argument at hand....

you stated that chef's get paid well, and then threw about some random figures that you figured would impress people... but it defeats the purpose of your argument when you think that even if you COULD earn that, you would have to work a minimum of 80 hours per week, which really doesn't translate to good pay now does it...

ok, lets say that 80 is a real figure... even then you would need to work 76 hours a week to get that @ a rate of $20ph (which is higher that the average)

that's 2 average working weeks... every week. and very few places outside of fine dining even have that many hours on hand. and when you work in fine dining, there is never hourly pay...

I keep my guys on $20.50 an hour and no-one leaves because its better than they can get else where

now i simply don't have the work for any of my guys to be pushing more than 50 hours in any given week, with the exception of myself

and to be paying what we do, the budget is severely stretched, and we are one of the most successful restaurants in melbourne.

chef's get paid badly... just fkn deal with it

Just checked with my mate to make 100% sure I wasn't spouting crap. He is paid $24.5 per hr and earns about $250 cash per week in tips you can do the math on how many hrs that is.....

As to the $4 per hr over what you pay and I not having a clue as I don't work in this industry and I only know two people who do well enough to know what they get paid I can only comment on what they have told me.

As to the 52k per year after tax that was quoted to be working 60 hrs a week plus tips.

They lived at home owned an investment property which was just sold and were looking to guy a brand new GTR for cash.

My comments orignated about Nurses and there pay which is above average, last time I reviews the statistics (2 years ago), they were above average as were Chefs and engineers scientists were just below average with teachers and childcare well behind......

aaah, so we are including tips now....

MOST kitchen's are not included in tips, and those that are are normally divvied out at a 10% share divided between the whole kitchen staff

in a kitchen of 5 that's 2% each lol

if your mates are getting tips then they are very lucky!

and 24.50 is roughly what i would expect from a government run situation :)

Xalmon- $80 a night isn't to bad.

Average night for us was about $40-$50 bucks, plus about $3 tips working 3 nights a week doesn't add up to much. Tips usually consisted of someones 20C change. People don't tip in Bendigo they're stingy, and they usually ask for doggy bags if they don't finish all their dinner either.

Well, the meals here costs upwards of $50/pax excluding drinks, so i reckon that must count for something, its those dodgy neighbourhood restaurants that undercut people's wages.

But we're getting way off topic here... A grade 4 nurse takes about 40/hr, i know, i live with one.

I thought the topic was worst driver of the week?

At least thats what I was expecting, then came in and all there is is you nubs arguing about who gets paid the most.

because its been decided that the jazz does go up to that speed and the guy is a dickhead.

I know it wasnt "that sort of place" and i know its degrading, i also know that my comment was a joke, i guess you missed that bit.

does it really matter how many posts the guy has??

and he's from N.Z so pay scales a different...

If you earn a constant amount in tips IMO it is part of your pay if you get a $200 tip once a year whilst technically it is part of your pay it isn't worth considering.

Chef in the hospital doesn't get tips I think but the other guy does. He is working also in a private resturant, I went there once IMO the food was average quality and over priced but they were flat out had to book 3-4 day in advance and had all tables full along with a pile of people waiting to be seated. Looked to me as though they were doing very good business.

In America I've been told it's compulsory to leave a tip, but Americans always leave tips...and usually pretty good ones to.

I sometimes tip my pizza delivery dude...I feel sorry for them, they get paid shit all

I hear ya. I was lucky to take home $50 per night plus minimal tips waitressing 6 nights per week.

Indeed, because they get paid so poorly. That goes with most people in the US in service type roles - taxi drivers, porters in hotels, etc.

Yeah it does matter when he called us a bunch of newbies with his 3 post wisdom LOL. He's either an obvious troll or really, really stupid.

People in Australia do tip it's just not customary or expected, because waiting staff wages are included in the bill. In America some restaurants pay staff solely with tips.

And case in point for the original discussion about jobs...I don't care how much you say nurses get paid, they are still underpaid when you compare them to doctors who work in the same environment with the same duty of care and role.

umm no

We come very close to having the same role, basically a doctor scribbles some stuff on a scrap of paper we then have to decode their shocking handwriting and do whatever task or administer whatever drug the doctors requested and on the topic of duty of care, our duty of care and code to ethics is very similar to that of a doctor, do no harm, don't kill anyone, look after them, act in their best interest, make sure we know what drugs we're handing over...our duty of care also has 1 other part though we're also suppose to keep an eye on their mental state and follow it up if there not seeming so well anymore.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
