I saw a Skyline today that had changed the wiring and lens colour so the smaller inner round lights are being used as indicators. What do you guys think? Illegal or not? I didn't really like it, I think it takes it away from the traditional.

if its still as visible as standard, it should be fine.

i rewired my indicators to the parkers in my s14 cuz i didn't like the stock indicators. sure they flash a little faster now but as visible as before.

how much faster? i did this in my 33 and they blink at the normal rate

do you know many skylines with "small inner round lights" for headlights Ash?

v35's, v36's, r35's.

OP, it's perfectly legal as long as:

there is a red reflector facing backwards.

brake light indicators have noticeable difference in intensity between driving and braking in the dark.

there is an indicator signal visible from all angles on the turning side.

I think she means the inside pair of tail lights made to flash instead of the actual indicator lights underneath..

Just trying to get it 100% clear :)

It's not legal far as i know given the mods that need to be done for compliance for the taillights so they all come on under the brake pedal/headlights

Ive seen some older cars get rid of the indicators all together and the stop light just flashes on one side..definately different

What i wouldnt mind doin is only having one tailight on,the outside one.. then both light up when i brake...reckon its possible?

I had the same deal in my a/m bike indicators... just need to smack a little diode in there :)

Hey guys

Sorry Coffee failed me while I was writing this, and I failed at explaining what I meant. I meant the inner break/tail lights. They had changed it so the inner set were indicators.

I've never actually been behind a Skyline when it's breaks/tail lights have been on so I don't know for sure but I believe all 4 illuminate when you break but only the inner set work as tail lights, if that's true then what's the tail lights connected to? a 2 stage brightness on the break lights?

R34 Coupes (and GTR) have indicators as the orange 'inner' round light, by design, stock, 100%, etc.

R34 Sedans, the indicator is different, seperated item meaning the "Oo oO" lights are all brake lights.

OP must have a sedan, and just merely saw a R34 coupe for the first time :)

ADRs state that indicators must be AMBER (orange) light. Brakes are RED.

Could be confusing for following drivers if a red light starts flashing at them.

Red starts flashing is very confusing as the US has. When you almost parallel and can only see one side of the back, it is impossible to tell if they have put on their indicator (not a common occurance) or they are braking. One brake light out, you may as well give up trying to guess! Easier to tell if the road is quiet as they wouldn't be braking but in traffic, it is a nightmare. They have it on home grown cars as well as Europeans. Amber FTW. :)

probably double the standard rate. it's cuz normal indicators are 15w globe, parker globes are 5w.

was a bit of a hack job but it works and im use to the fast speed now.

    • Yes the gear for the R33/34 is different, it is red and has a different number of teeth. My part didn't come with that gear though, so I don't know how many teeth are on the red one. You'd have to reuse the 260RS/R33 gear, as long as it's not destroyed.   Haha, as unfortunate as that might be it was working fine for about the first 1500km I've had the car for now.
    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.

    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
