Whether it is a genuine 260rs or not, who cares

That parts list adds upto more than the $27,000 you paid for it, so you got the car for free

If you are still worried but it being genuine, remove the plastic cowl along the front of the windscreen and try to see any signs of the chassis number in the fire wall being welded in or modified.

If there is signs, it will explain the white car with VIN KR4 silver paint code.

I am starting to think the same thing! I am over the whole debate. Its a sweet car.

I wonder if I contacted Autech if they could help me?

It has all the fruit you wanted when you paid for it. Drive it for 5 years and it won't matter either way.

I paid $21k for an RS4S (and a trailer full of 2nd hand car parts) several years ago, I have pissed away money modifying it and surprice, suprise it will be worth much less that I have spent on it. That is car ownership for you.

Drive it and enjoy it.

Autech get an RS4 from Nissan and drop in an RB26 engine, manual box, Brembos etc etc. As far as I am concerned if someone else does the same then I would be happy to consider it a 260RS. Its like Mike who shifted all the goodies from his rusty 260RS into another shell. I would have been happy to buy his car as a 260RS. In your case you have got many more goodies than Autech fitted originally so you can't lose!

Srsly dude you got ripped off. I will regretably swap yours for mine and pay for freight to WA.

But really, is this the powerplay imports car? If it is then youve got NFI mate about wot you have stumbled upon. lol

if the build plate is saying it's silver, then shouldnt you be able to find some silver paint on the car somewhere? quick way would be to try lift off the shifter surround, it would be unlikely that anyone would ever paint in there during a respray.

end of the day, if you're happy with the car then so be it. value is all about a formula of price vs perceived benefit.

if you however feel that you would not have paid the same amount for a heavily modded RS4S, then you have grounds for legal compensation - although you will have a hard time proving it.

an extreme example would be if you bought a $450,000 Phase 3 GTHO that was SOLD AS a Phase 3 GTHO, but turned out to be only a mockup - even though both cars perform their intended duties equally as well, only one has the desirability as a collectible, and as such you should be compensated as you weren't sold what was described or implied. an auctech 260RS in my mind is a collectable because they will never make any more, and even though you can mock one up quite easily to the exact specs - it is will never be a 260RS.

if you tried to seek legal compensation though, any lawyer would just point out that it has been so heavily modified that it no longer retains its value as a collector piece, and that the mods are worth more than the selling price anyway - so you'd probably lose.

i guess, to put it in perspective, this is one of the most heavily modded stagea's i've seen for sale in oz - and it's asking 22k.....gives you a yardstick to measure by

Yeah, I am starting to think the same thing. Whats done is done... get over it and start enjoying it!

I spoke to the fella that serviced it. The one that informed me it is not an Autech... we came to the agreement that "maybe" the reason the colours done match up is simply because its had a respray. OR there is the posibility that someone in japan rolled their silver 260 and wrote off and then they simply transfered all the engine and drive train into an rsfour etc etc.

I was seriously thinkin of gettin legal help and compensation because its (posibly) not an Autech, but after talkin to you guys on here i feel much better about the car. Even though the number dont "add up". The car is in amzing condition and has more mods than I would ever personally do to a car. So its time to enjoy it.

I just wish there was someway of finding out the history on this awesome car. I would love to know all about its mods. Especially if there are internal engine mods. Previous owner told me its good to run 23psi boost. I aint gunna do that to it unless i know the engine is capable of takin it.

take a photo of the clutch master in the engine bay and the recessed part in the firewall it sits in, this is different from a rs4 and autech, the autech is reccessed in 40mm from memory and the rs4 isnt. I suppose this can be changed over also but worth a check to see if it looks factory.

Interesting to know the differences in the Autech. I always wondered why it was blanked off where it looks like it should have cup holders. It's pretty annoying actually. Anyone know why they did that? Prevent the manual gear knob hitting the cups? I might see if I can get an RS4 one and stick it in there. Anyone wanna sell one?

My 260RS has the RB25DET tag, but on Fast it has the Autech pop-up window.

I say, who cares if yours is really a 260 or not. Just enjoy it. They're not exactly rare collectors cars anyway..

My (converted) manual RS4 still has the cup holders, and it doesn't get in the way too much when I'm changing gears. It's not nearly enough to complain about, anyway.

hmm not sure about that. the owner of this car had an rs260 which burned to the ground, but that was at home and caused by a battery problem.

they then bought an rs4 and this 260rs. afaik this one has not had any issues

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
