met a guy in coffs with a 7D, nice piece of kit

but the main thing about the nikon that i cant stand with the canon is the rear wheel.

my nikon has it opposite the front wheel, the canon has the large menu wheel as the activation for your 2nd function and it gets in the way of your face.

i had a canon before i had the nikon, so yes i can speak from experience :)

So... you're weird and you blame Canon? Should have just got used to it :P

I've got a 7D, only complaints are in terms of using it as a video camera.

Who puts HDMI out on a camera and doesn't let you stream full HD over it?! :domokun:

lol the 7D and 5D2 werent out when i got the D700, so i made a decsision as per the models available at the time.

i still think i made the right decision for me.

nothing is buried in menus, everything is right there and i can change them easily.

each to their own! i only like bagging the canon guys because its fun lol

Its only in the way of youre face if youre a left eye shooter, and even then - theres a 2nd wheel near the trigger button the the 5D and 7D that will do the same thing as the rear wheel 90% of the time. Im not sure whats hidden in 'menus' that youd want to access with the quickness.. Everything I want to fiddle with (Shutter speed, aperature, iso, AF method, metering, white balance, shooting mode) is on the Q screen which is pretty damn quick? Half the items I mentioned also have dedicated buttons on the 7D (AF, Iso, WB)

To say I think Ive made the right choice me would be accurate :P

yup im a left eye shooter! but im right handed. weird i know

90% of the time isnt good enough for me :P

then again i only have shutter and aperture on the wheels. nothing else needs adjusting.

cant compare the 5D2 and 7D with the D700 as their functionality was taken after people mentioned that common functions were buried in menus. which was why many people moved to the nikon pro-series.

however, yeah i have buttons for ISO, WB, focus mode, meter mode etc

just use a noise reduction program. sometimes they work well. i guess it comes down to how noisy your camera is at whatever ISO youre using.

get a 580ex speedlite, its got 200mm zoom (i think)

Yep, using Lightroom and it's doing a pretty good job, I just need to learn more about using it and Photoshop properly.

Ive seen Noise Ninja do some fairly amazing things. Smart software.

If Nick has a crop body & his lens was at 200mm then even the 580 wouldnt help - as he'd technically be at 320mm. Ive never shot with a monopod, but under those sort of circumstances it might work well..?

Yep, crop body - Canon 60D, and no, the flash wouldn't have helped over the distance I was shooting. And I own a monopod now, but didn't then.

And 'sif not real zoom - it's still optical zoom isn't it? So it IS real! :D

Dunc is right, Iain - you're just a weirdo! :P

The 60D has the screen and controls at the top near the shutter button too for quick access to ISO, AF mode, drive mode, aperture, etc. But the Q screen is an excellent idea by Canon in regards to seeing and changing your settings on the fly.

Off topic; how is your new toy Aaron?

a friend was helping me work on it, to get rid of the BOV and put a stock one back in.

I was trying to get the airbox to fit, but when he went to put the battery back in he had managed to short the terminals together.

positive wasnt connected, so it basically fried all the earths in the car. - since has been fixed..

it has also done something interesting to the Power FC. instead of resetting it, like it would usually do, it has thrown a bunch of random figures into the map.. especially the voltage autocorrect. when the voltage drops it adds the smallest amount of fuel.. since the short? its adding a f**k load of fuel and actually fouling the plugs and misfiring - so whenever i turn the headlight AC radio etc..

Sabbadin auto has fixed most of the problems, and changed some of the corrections in the PFC to allow me to drive it while getting it fixed but yeh.. needs a full retune.

blew up the AFM on it as well, happy that it was upgraded to a Z32, and theres a f**k load of them, so now I have 3 spares lol.

i found a couple of leaks that should cost about $50 to fix, and can do so myself..

but yeh. thats my current problem.. should be good in a week or so, depending on when I get off my ass and do it.

150psi across all cylinders..even with the big wade cams

he said overall its a good car.. so that pleased me..

Wow thats some bad luck you've both had with your new cars Aaron! Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon

Great new nickname btw thumbsup.gif

yeh if the terminals didnt short out. everything wouldve been fine

Common denominator? :P

Aaron has, at one point or another, worked on both of them? no such thing as coincidences.. whistling.gif

That was too easy, sorry Aaron. cheers.gif

Whose going to do the tune? Same place that did it last time or can Cihan tune pfc's?

i'll let that one slide.

Cihan can tune PFC's but a very hard person to get hold of.. plus everyone can tune a PFC and Chequred tuning(trent) is 10 minutes from me. Chasers is near my work.. and Sabbadin the Mechanic/tuner working on my car is also reletively close. cant justify driving to whoop whoop, when everyone else can do it, and do an amazing job too..

i dont want to get the person who tuned it last to re do it, as i couldnt trust him more than a wasp on my hand..

Sounds like a plan then! I wish there was a tuner that lived 10mins from me, all the ones in adelaide are at in whoop whoop [for me at least] :P (irrespective of what sort of aftermarket ecu you're running!)

and sounds like your car had a really good builder blink.gif

previous tuner wasnt the builder.

according to sabbadin, the build is amazing. had the head off and went over everything. tuner on the other hand.. havent really heard anything good. so yeh wanted to get it retune anyway.. just didnt want it all to happen at once.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
