That's a hot car.

Unfortunately you might get half what you're asking, if you're lucky. And by lucky I mean, "go buy a lotto ticket as you have a good chance of winning now", lucky.

Even parting it out might get you half what your ask is. I'd say either way, you're going to take a massive hit. But them's the breaks, I suppose.

Great looking car you've got there - sounds like its had all the work done.

Its a real shame, but in the market at the moment you'd be lucky to get 16 - 18k for it. Have a look at what some of the worked R33 GTR's are moving for.

yer it doesnt seem like its going to happen. Few months back i was going through carsales and saw and ad for a white R33 from Queensland asking 35k. Thing is, that particular one had pretty much standard body with no internal work and was claiming just over 400hp so i figured my asking price was fair.

At the end of the day its an R33 GTST, and no matter how nice it is, or how much power it puts out people still won't get past that fact. For slightly more than what you're asking you could get an R34 GTR.

Plus it's not all that recent a rebuild. I'm no expert, but I'd be really, really wary of an engine that has done nearly 30,000kms under that kind stress with an owner who no doubt gives it a thrashing from time to time. It's a lot of money for a car which may or may not have problems in the near future. I'm not trying to dishearten you, and I could be entirely wrong, but this is just what runs through my head when I read that ad.

Add to it that, what is written on Carsales isn't necessarily what people are getting for their cars...hence they are still on Carsales :P

You make an excellent point, I've seen a couple R33 GTR's sitting on Carsales for over a year with very little in the way of price drops, I suppose thats why they are still there.

hey mate i've had mine up there for about 3 weeks and have had 2 genuine calls. i'm still debating with myself if i really want to sell it, i can never fully decide i keep changing my mind...

so even though people have said i wont get anything over 20 i'm not dropping the price cause i dont mind if she doesn't sell!!

i think you're a little high, but it's a great car so if you take a similar approach, pick a price more likely, then stop thinking about it all the time, leave it up there on the site, until the right person comes along? it's like a nice girl, if you go looking you'll never find, then when you stop thinking about it or trying.. wham, one bites !

lol at crappy example :P

there's just no point selling a modded car unless you desperately need to.

i have written mine off as a financial prospect.

just keep it for a toy and buy a daily if you can

striping it for parts will always get you more money than selling whole if you are desperate....

Yeah modified cars...plenty of owners who think mods increase the value of the car. I remember seeing a yellow autosalon RX7 wanting $90,000 for the POS because he had spent $180,000 on it. It's probably still up on Carsales.

Which is a shame because modified cars really should be worth more money with the goodies they have. It's just that buyer perception will always be that they have been thrashed, and, let's face it, everyone likes to build their own project from scratch (despite the detriment to their wallet). If I was to buy a Skyline over again, of the same model anyway, I'd buy one already modified and (but in good working condition).

IMO its worth no more than 30k, and that’s just how the world is these days – especially modified cars that are not rare (like a 34NUR or something).

EG: I just picked up a full Racepace built/track ready GTR for considerably less than you are asking for a RWD GTS-t.

Yeah it doesn’t have the best paintwork, but nothing a cut’n’polish and a respray on the front bar won’t fix up and it’ll come in a lot cheaper than what you are asking.

Now – before people jump up and now - Obviously you like the car as it - which is totally fine. But what I say below is from a general populace view that I think would help it sell if you tried it.

- Get rid of the stickers on the dash & exterior (and the big tacho). Just makes it a bit more subtle. Some people love it, but most realistically don’t.

- Rear of the car with rim choice/ride height kinda doesn’t fit right? (could just be my eyes?). Needs thinner profile on the rear and drop it a good 30-40mm and take some pic’s. Front might need to drop 20mm also.

The other issue is yours is a EPA waiting to happen. This is something a lot of Vic buyers that this car requires - will be conscious off, hence interstate people would be more likely. Finding interstate buyers takes considerably longer at times though :P

Or....here's a bit of a crazy idea....Keep it

Let me explain:

You said in the add your selling because it's time to grow up and get ready for a family. You could put a family in there!

Me and my partner have a 17 month old son, my 4 door GTV is the 'family car' and Brenton's modded FTO is 'the other car'

We have a car seat in both cars (car seats are really cheap, can get them from about $75 from BIGW) We have a red and black 'Aunga Racing' one in the FTO, it matches the interior and has a high safety rating, and Tyler loves it because he can sit so close to mum and dad, and a black and grey one in the Skyline. A friend of mine has a car seat in a fairly heavily modded turbo Supra.

As long as it has a back parcel shelf you can mount a car seat, and the anchor points are really easy to install if there isn't one already. We didn't have to install them in the Skyline because it has 3 already. Mother's Choice anchor kits can be purchased from Super Cheap for under $10

We have subs in both our cars (Mines just a little 1500 watt Clarion but Brenton has 2 huge Rockford Fosgates running off 2 amps) I did some research and have actually discovered that subs don't do any damage to bubs, as long as there kept at a reasonable level, and by the time the vibrations reach the back seat most has been absorbed by the normal seat and the car seat.

As Brenton's subs take up the majority of the boot we usually do our large grocery shops in the skyline, but we can still fit a stroller (not a pram) in the FTO. When it comes to strollers VS prams. Prams are usually are a waste of money and they usually get resold as bub can go into a stroller by 4-6 months (strollers are from $25 from major department stores)

Biggest piece of advice: Don't sell your car for your kids. I sold my Lancer and went and brought a BMW family car...worst decision EVER! It makes parenting much easier and much more enjoyable for parent and bub if you don't change everything for them, instead try to include them as much as possible into the existing family. overall including them is much more enjoyable, they get to feel like a big girl/boy and you keep your sanity :P

I would have to agree with the comments you guys have taken time to put it :) tbh i'm half/half about selling. Of course financially, it would be a great boost if i was able to sell but not an absolute necessity. It has great sentimental value also with the old man spending countless hours on the body. It will probably remain on carsales ( with a lower asking price ) and just forget about it. Some days i wake up thinking yer she needs to go other days its " nahhh i cant let it go " lol. But your right Slinky, this car is probably the only thing keeping me sane and yer thats a good tip in regards to including the lil ones rather than try to change everything to accomodate them.

The price is about double what it will probably sell for.

A good rough estimate for pricing is cost of a standard car plus 50% of the cost of mods (parts only no labour) with most likely having to drop down to 30% of the value of the mods in the current slow market to get a sale.

After looking at the description, mods and pictures I believe I could build a R33 to similar spec including body work, high performance built engine, sound systems and suspension for considerably less than your asking price and you have pretty much said this yourself "i'm half/half about selling" AKA you are dreaming.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
