Hi all

Can anyone confirm if the M35 Stagea (and the V35 Skyline for that matter) have CAN Bus signal on the OBD2 interface?

I have read this: CAN Protocol Pins : If pins 5, 6, 14 and 16 are populated, the vehicle supports CAN.

On the OBD2 connector, 5 = GND, 16 = PWR, 6 & 14 are Data (CAN).

My connector has all these except 14 is missing. There is a wire (green/yellow with pink band) turned back in the harness and connected to a different coloured wire. It looks decidedly aftermarket (unsure of its use) and I reckon it would have come from position 14 on the connector.

Can anyone drop their OBD2 connector out and confirm they have a wire in pin 14, and report on the colour?

If you want to compare all colours, mine are:

1. Yellow/black

2. Empty

3. Red

4. Black (with white dots?)

5. As above

6. Light blue

7. Purple with pink band

8. Green/yellow with pink band

9. White/green with pink band

10. Empty

11. Empty

12. Yellow with pink band

13. Brown/yellow with pink band

14. Empty but probably should have Green/yellow with pink band

15. Empty

16. Red/white with pink band

Now, why do I want to know?

Anyone without cruise control watch this spot. I'll be posting more info about a drive-by-wire cruise control when I've nailed down some answers (like this one).

It can be connected with wires to the speed signal, tacho, brake switch (& clutch if you have a manual) like most D-B-W systems. BUT, to make install easier, it can just have have 2 wires connected to the cars CAN Bus, if it is so equipped, and you don't need the other signal wires. How easy is that!

Oh, and 2 other really good things, it plugs into the connector on the accelerator pedal and is compatible with the steering wheel controls.

I'll fill in more details soon, but if I get enough interest you could have "state of the art" cruise with factory controls installed at your place in an afternoon for $600 or less.

Anyone want to help with wire colours and locations now?

Cheers, Leon.

The M35 is obd2 but not the compliant version. The 350z is, and the VQ35 version of the V35 should be... What is it you would like to know?

If running an aftermarket ECU (such as Link/Haltech/Motec etc.), will they be able to interface with the V35/350Z CANBUS system, or do you need to run the factory ECU to control that with a piggyback?

Just trying to find out how easy it is to run the R34 GTR box behind a VQ motor for manual action (and AWD). Both V35 and M35...

I know you have a fair bit of experience with this Scotty, so just picking your brain (and anyone else who has done something similar....)

V35, fairly easily with the 3.5 using a plugin (platinum pro), hard with the 3L and 2.5. I think the Link would be the better option, and much cheaper than the Motec.

M35, almost impossible with the 2.5det at the moment, no-one has managed to fit a full standalone on the det afaik let alone a manual box.

I would be going with the R33 gtr box personally, as they are 1/4 the price. You can buy an adapter plate from for VQ to RB conversions for around $1k US. Lot's of custom work required, and the V35 manual interior parts required are hard to come by.

3 year old posts don't warrant responses. :P

:) I see no one actually answered my original question (had to figure it out myself by experimentation), so why would anyone bother clarifying a throw away statement like that...

It's a shame we can't get the cruise to operate through the can network, I suspect the cruise setups we are using at the moment cause occasional differences in resistance, triggering limp mode for the throttle circuit. I have had to disconnect one of yours Chris, and I think mine is still playing up too after already swapping the throttle and pedal assys. I will be dropping the adapter loom for the pedal next, to see if the occasional limp mode stops occurring.

I'm after a OBD2 blue tooth device that works..........

I bought one of these "http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELM327-Interface-V1-5-Bluetooth-OBD-II-OBD2-Auto-Car-Diagnostic-Scan-Tool-AU-/251319157864?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a83ca0468" only to find its not compatible :(

found out after I got it that it only supports Nissan sunny and x-trail..............FFS.

what's our protocol KWP2000/ISO 14230-1 ???

    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
